The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. I’ve gone over the forecast for Spanish House, and it’s looking like a lean spell for the next 16 days. This is a sandbar that doesn’t break often, and it needs a north-northeast swell to fire. Right now, there’s a big gap of poor conditions from the start all the way to the end of August.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Thursday morning, August 27th. We’ll see 2ft of easterly swell at 12 seconds, with moderate energy (130). It’ll be glassy under a slight breeze, so it’s clean. But the quality is still low—just a 1 out of 10 vibe. The swell direction isn’t ideal for this spot, and the size is tiny.
Friday morning, August 28th, bumps up a touch: 3ft from the east-southeast at 10 seconds, with 144 energy. Clean conditions thanks to a light offshore from the southwest. Still just surfable, not good.
Saturday morning, August 29th, is similar: 3ft from the east at 9 seconds, 109 energy, clean with a light offshore. Nothing special.
Monday morning, August 31st, offers a tiny 1ft from the northeast at 8 seconds, 41 energy—clean but very small. The afternoon gets glassy with the north-northeast wind dying.
Then Tuesday morning, September 1st, we see the biggest height: 3ft from the east-southeast, but with only a 5-second period. That’s a weak windswell, so the waves will be crumbly and gutless. Energy is just 66. At least it’s glassy.
The best of a bad bunch is Thursday the 27th morning or Friday the 28th morning if you want a clean, tiny wave. But there’s no standout here—no good swell, no quality. The break is inconsistent, so this quiet run is normal. For the rest, it’s mostly onshore slop.
Hang in there, forecasts can shift. For now, it’s a hard pass.
Rusty.
