The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the 16-day stretch for Blowhole. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a tough one. We’re looking at a long dry spell before there’s anything worth paddling for.
For the first few days, the wind is all over the place, mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the swell is small and weak. The combined energy is low, barely cracking 100 (119 at its best on Monday afternoon, but that’s a short-period 8-second swell with a 9 mph offshore wind – it’s clean but tiny at 3 ft). Tuesday through to the end of the first week is just poor surf conditions, with swell heights under 3 ft and messy winds. This is a stretch of nearly 10 days where you’d be wasting your time.
There’s a tiny glimmer on Saturday morning, August 8th. The wind goes glassy, dead calm, and the swell is 4 ft from the ESE at 8 seconds. Combined energy is moderate (162). It’s the cleanest window we get, but that swell is still pretty weak and short-period. It’s not a standout, just the best of a bad lot. The water temp is 82°F, which is about average for this time of year – nothing to write home about.
After that, it’s back to the same story: small, weak swell, and cross winds. The rest of the forecast is all 1 ft to 3 ft junk with poor conditions. A few glassy mornings pop up (like August 11th and 12th) but the swell is too small to even bother with.
Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, there’s no true standout. The best session is that Saturday morning (August 8th) for the clean conditions, but the waves are barely surfable. If you’re desperate for a saltwater fix, that’s your window. Otherwise, keep your board in the car and wait for a better run.
