Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's be real about what's coming—or more like what's not coming—for the next couple of weeks at Jetty Park.
The water temp is 85°F, which is pretty average for this time of year, so that’s not the story.
We've got a long, dry spell ahead. From now all the way through July 20th, the surf is pretty much flat to tiny. The combined wave energy barely hits 79 (79) on the best morning, and even that’s called "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions." Most days, the energy is down in the teens and twenties (13 to 58), and the forecast keeps saying "poor surf conditions." That tells you everything.
The first week is a total bust. Nothing to get excited about. We see a few clean or glassy mornings—like Sunday the 5th and Saturday the 11th—but with the swell at a knee-high 1ft to 2ft from the ESE, and a short period of 8 seconds, you’d be scratching for a 2-foot lump at best. The winds switch onshore most afternoons, chopping up whatever tiny ripple there is. Not worth suiting up.
The second week doesn’t save us. It’s more of the same. Swell stays tiny, period short, winds messy. That Wednesday the 15th of July morning tries to bump up to 3ft, but with a period of only 4 seconds, it’s just messy wind slop. No shape, no power.
There isn't a single standout session in this whole 16-day forecast. If you’re itching for something, this looks more like a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one.
Hang in there, folks. Better days will come.
Rusty.
