The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight up: it's a tough run ahead for Jetty Park. We're looking at a long stretch of very small, weak surf with barely enough energy to get a decent ride. The whole 16-day window is flatlined for quality waves, so don't bother holding your breath.
Starting now, from Tuesday the 14th of July, it's tiny. We're talking ankle to calf-high dribble at 1ft, swell energy readings sitting in the teens (16) – that's weak stuff. The wind might be clean in the mornings, but there's just no push behind it. This flat spell doesn't let up. Day after day, the swell height barely budges, stuck between 0.7ft and 2ft. The combined energy never even cracks triple digits, topping out at a measly 80 on the 22nd of July, which is still rubbish for surfing.
You'll see a bit of a bump on the afternoon of the 21st and into the 22nd, with swell pushing to 2ft and 2ft, energy hitting 40 and then 80, but don’t get excited. The wind swings onshore from the SE, ruining any chance of a clean face. It’s choppy and bumpy. Even on Thursday morning the 23rd and Friday morning the 24th, when the wind goes light offshore, the swell is too weak at 1ft to matter. This is a beginner spot that’s inconsistent at the best of times, and right now it’s just not breaking with any kind of shape.
Because it’s a beach and jetty setup, and the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, this whole period looks far more interesting for kite surfing than for paddle surfing if you’re desperate. Honestly, there's nothing to recommend here for a surfer. It’s a blank run, and for this area that’s pretty normal when the swell windows are closed. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
