Imperial Version
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’re looking at a long stretch ahead, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a flat spell. There’s a gap right from the start with nothing worth paddling out for. The first chance of any surfable wave comes on Monday, July 13th, but even then, it's a tough sell.
The whole 16-day outlook is a quiet one, with the first real sniff of action not coming until July 13th. We’ve got a long gap of nothing before that. Looking at Jetty Park, we’re dealing with tiny, weak swells for the entire run. The wave energy is extremely low, sitting around 17 to 43 units throughout the period – that’s barely a ripple. The swell is consistently from the ESE with a short period of just 8 seconds; it’s all windswell, no real punch to it. The heights hover between 0.7ft and 1ft. That’s not surf, that’s a lake.
The standout, if you can even call it that, is the one or two mornings when the wind ticks around to a light offshore from the W or SW, like we see on Wednesday morning, July 15th, and Thursday morning, July 16th. Those windows give us clean, glassy conditions on a tiny 1ft ESE windswell. It will be small and weak, but for a beginner on a foamboard, it’s the absolute best you’ll get. Because the swell direction is from the ESE, and Jetty Park’s optimum swell is from the SSE, the waves won’t be wrapping in well. With the combined swell energy so low (14 and 19 units respectively), it’s really just ankle-snappers. Afternoons are mostly choppy with onshore cross-winds. Crowds aren’t a factor at this size; the spot is *inconsistent* anyway.
Everything else is a write-off. From July 18th right through to the end of the month on the 28th, it’s the same story: tiny swell, short period, and a lot of onshore chop in the afternoons. The mornings stay clean but there’s just no water moving. For the last week, particularly from July 24th, we even get some rain and storms to deal with, but the surf stays flat. It’s a real bummer, but breaks like this can go quiet for stretches. Don’t hold your breath; forecasts can change, but right now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
