The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty here. Mate, I’ll be honest: this 16-day outlook is a tough one. There’s nothing worth paddling out for. The only spot in the mix is Jetty Park, a beach/jetty break that’s beginner-level but inconsistent and rarely breaks. The water temp on the 15th of July is about 85°F, which is normal for this time of year.
From Wednesday the 15th of July through to Thursday the 30th of July, every session is marked as poor surf. Swell heights are tiny—0.7ft to 2ft—coming from the ESE or E with a short period of 4 to 10 seconds. The combined energy is weak, with values between 7 and 49. There’s just no punch.
The wind does offer some clean windows. Wednesday the 15th morning has a light NW cross-off at 3 mph, keeping it clean, but the swell is only 1ft. Thursday the 16th morning has a 6 mph offshore from the W, again clean, but still 1ft. The mornings of the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th all have clean conditions with light cross-off or offshore winds, but swell is 0.7ft to 1ft. You’d be struggling for a bump.
Around the 21st and 22nd of July, the energy picks up a little to 44 and 41, but the winds turn cross-on from the SSE at 16 mph, making it choppy. The swell only reaches 2ft, still short period. On the 24th, a Friday morning has a clean 9 mph cross-off from the S, with energy at 49, but it’s only 2ft. The 29th of July Wednesday morning offers a glassy offshore from the WNW at 6 mph, with a 1ft swell and a period of 9 seconds, energy at 30—still poor.
The 30th of July Thursday morning is the best of a bad lot: glassy with a NE wind at 3 mph, 1ft swell from the ESE, period of 8 seconds, energy at 29. But it’s all “poor surf conditions.” No standout here. For a beginner, those tiny clean mornings might be a splash, but for anyone else, this is a full 16-day flat spell. Being a beach/jetty, with such small swell and frequent onshore afternoons, this setup looks better for kiteboarding than paddle surfing.
Keep an eye on the long-range, but forecasts can shift. For now, it’s a dead period.
