The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk numbers you can feel in your bones. This stretch is looking lean. We’ve only got Jetty Park, and it’s an inconsistent spot, so brace yourself. The water’s a warm 87°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
We’re starting Sunday, August 23rd, with tiny waves. Morning is a 1-foot east swell with a short 8-second period. The combined energy is a weak 26. It’s poor. The afternoon goes glassy with a light breeze, and we get a 2-foot swell with a better 12-second period. Energy is moderate (108). It’s surfable, but nothing special.
Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th are more of the same—tiny, poor surf with onshore crud. Swell barely reaches 2 feet. Wednesday through Friday (August 26th to 28th) are a flat, boring stretch. Friday morning is glassy, but the swell is only 1 feet. Just a tease.
The weekend of August 29th and 30th sees a little bump to 2 feet, but it’s onshore and short-period. Energy is still weak (45-79). Not worth a drive.
Now, Monday, September 1st, is the standout. The morning is glassy with a 2-foot east swell, but the period is a very long 15 seconds. That’s a groundswell, and the energy hits 139 (moderate). For a jetty, that long period can actually wrap in nicely. It’s your best shot for a clean, fun little wave in the whole 16 days. The afternoon gets onshore and messy.
Tuesday, September 2nd, has a similar story: glassy morning with a 2-foot east swell, 13-second period, and moderate energy (148). It’s surfable, but again, not firing. Wednesday and Thursday (September 3rd and 4th) drop back to poor conditions.
Friday, September 5th, morning offers a clean, cross-off wind with a 2-foot east swell, 10-second period, and moderate energy (103). It’s the next best thing after the 1st. Still, it’s ordinary.
The outlook ends Sunday, September 7th, with a 3-foot east-northeast swell, but the period is short at 7 seconds. The morning is clean, but the energy is weak (97). You’ll be scratching for a ride.
The real highlight is that Monday, September 1st morning. Glassy, long-period groundswell, and a bit of energy. Everything else is a struggle. It’s a rough run, but it won’t stay this quiet forever.
Rusty.
