Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jetty Park over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's be straight with you – the outlook for the next couple of weeks is a tough one for surfers. I'm looking at the Jetty Park area, and honestly, the swell is just not showing up. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny, weak waves.
The water temperature is sitting at 86°, which is about average for this time of year, so at least the paddle won't be a shock.
The first recommendation doesn't come until Saturday, the 11th of July, and it's a real non-starter. We've got a tiny 1ft swell rolling in from the ESE with a short period of 8 seconds, and the combined swell energy is a pathetic 21. The wind is cross-onshore, ruining any chance of a clean wave. It's a beginner spot, but honestly, even a beginner would be frustrated. This pattern of poor surf conditions and choppy, onshore wind continues straight through the week.
We jump ahead to Wednesday morning, the 15th of July. The swell is still only 1ft, but the wind goes glassy. That's a tease. The wave energy is still very weak at 15, so it's a flat, glassy lake out there. Not worth paddling out for.
You'll see brief moments of glassy conditions on the morning of Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th, but the swell is so small – 1ft – that it's barely a ripple. The wind goes offshore on Friday morning, the 17th, which is a positive, but with an 8-second period and 24 energy, it's still a tiny, weak wave.
The best of a bad bunch, and I'm stretching here, is the morning of the 26th of July. The swell bumps up to a modest 2ft from the East with a 7-second period. The combined energy is 39, still weak. But the wind is offshore, blowing from the WSW, and it's clean. For Jetty Park, in this forecast, that's the cleanest window you'll see. It's a beach and jetty setup, so the offshore wind will make it look a lot better than anything else on offer, but don't expect much power.
Overall, this is a blank run for the area. The waves are too small, the wind is mostly trash, and the swell energy never gets above double digits. It's a write-off for paddle surfing. Honestly, a setup like this with a bit of wind looks more interesting for kite surfing than anything else. I'll be watching the horizon, but it's going to be a quiet couple of weeks.
Rusty.
