The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s coming up in proper units.
Honestly, the first week is a bit of a washout. From Tuesday the 18th right through to Sunday the 23rd, there’s a long stretch with nothing worth talking about. Tiny swell, messy wind, poor conditions. Leave your board in the car.
We get a flicker of life on Monday the 24th. Jetty shows a small 3 ft S swell with a 7 second period. The morning is clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate (110). Nothing special, but it’s the first decent sign.
Tuesday the 25th morning has a bit more size at 4 ft from the SSW, period still short at 7 seconds. Light cross wind leaves a clean surface. The energy is stronger (257). Marginally surfable.
The real standout is Friday the 28th of August morning at Jetty. Clean conditions, 4 ft S swell at 8 seconds, with a light cross breeze from the WSW. Combined energy is solid (273). This is your best window. Get out there early.
That Friday afternoon, the swell picks up to 5 ft, but the wind cranks to 30 km/h from the WSW, making it lumpy and choppy. Energy spikes (536), but it’s messy. Kite surfers might be interested, but not for paddling.
Monday the 31st morning has 4 ft from the ESE at 7 seconds, with a light cross breeze. Energy is moderate (149). Surfable, but average. The afternoon gets bigger at 6 ft from the east, but that onshore SSW wind kills the quality. Not for beginners.
Tuesday the 1st of September morning is clean-ish with 4 ft SE swell and light cross wind. Energy is strong (235). Marginal, but worth a look.
The second week is pretty thin and uncertain. Nothing major stands out.
So, the pick is Friday 28th August morning at Jetty. Clean, 4 ft S swell, light wind. Crowds are possible, so get in early. Everything else is a waiting game.
