The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Honestly, it’s a pretty bleak stretch ahead. For the first week and a half, there’s barely a whisper of decent surf. The energy is just not there, and the wind is mostly in the wrong spot. The whole period starts with a long gap of poor conditions. We’re looking at days of nothing worth paddling out for, with tiny, weak swell and messy, cross-onshore winds. It’s frustrating, but it happens.
The first real glimmer of hope – and I mean the only one worth talking about – shows up on Friday, 4th September at Jetty-4. That morning, the stars finally start to line up, but only just. We’ve got a clean 3 ft swell rolling in from the SSE, with a 12-second period, which gives it a bit of push. The combined energy is a solid 323 (moderate wave energy), and with a gentle offshore breeze making it clean, it’s the standout. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 74°, which is a nice bonus. The swell direction is a good match for the break’s optimum from the SSE. Just keep in mind the crowds can be a problem here sometimes. This is your best bet, hands down, but it’s a one-morning window. The afternoon chops it up again.
Before that, there’s a brief moment on Saturday, 5th September morning with a similar 3 ft SSE swell and clean conditions, but the energy is much weaker at 207. It’s a back-up plan, not a standout.
After that, the forecast gets ugly again with strong winds and rain. So, if you’re keen, circle that Friday morning on the 4th. It’s not a world-class swell, but it’s the only clean surf on the menu.
That’s it from me. Get out there if you can.
Rusty.
