Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s break this down. For the next couple of weeks, it’s a pretty bleak run of small, wind-chewed waves. There’s a big gap with no real recommendations running right through until the 18th of July. The first thing that might get your attention isn’t until Sunday morning, the 19th, and even that’s not a guaranteed gem.
We’re looking at Jetty. It’s a breakwater spot, exposed to swell, and it’s very consistent, which is about the only positive. The water’s at 74°, way warmer than usual for this time of year, a solid 5° above the long-term average, so at least you won’t be cold.
The best bet is Sunday morning, the 19th of July. There’s a pulse of 8ft swell from the SSW, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s getting big enough to be for the experienced crew only – beginners need to sit this one out. The combined wave energy is strong at 1490. The wind is a gentle offshore from the SSW, but it’s described as only gentle cross-onshore and fairly choppy, so it’s not glassy. It’s a marginal call, but it’s the biggest surf in the window. Sunday afternoon drops to 5ft from the S, with a period of 9 seconds, energy at 404, and a cross-shore wind. It’s rideable but not as clean.
Before that, the numbers are rough. On the 18th, Saturday morning, you get 5ft from the S with a period of 7 seconds, energy at 372, but the wind is a fresh cross-shore creating lumpy chop – that’s more of a kite-surfing day than paddling. The 14th has 4ft from the E with a period of 6 seconds, but the cross-onshore wind is too strong and messy.
Honestly, for the first two weeks, there’s almost nothing worth your time. If you’re really keen, the Wednesday morning of the 13th has a tiny 2ft from the SE with a period of just 4 seconds, energy at 34, and clean conditions from a cross-offshore breeze – but it’s weak and short-period. It’s a waiting game. The long-range call for the 19th is promising, but this far out, don’t put too much faith in it.
Hang in there. The quiet spell won’t last forever – forecasts can shift. But for now, it’s a dry stretch.
