The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee, this is going to be a tough read. Looking at the Jetty forecast, it's a pretty bleak run for the next couple weeks. We got a lot of days where the swell is just pathetic and the wind is doing us no favors. You’re gonna be checking the cam and just shaking your head.
The start of this period is dead. Wednesday the 19th and Thursday the 20th have waves under 2 feet with short, weak periods. The energy is in the weak zone, reading around 38 to 56. It's basically a lake out there with some chops on it. Not even worth the walk down.
Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd continue the misery. Still tiny, 1-foot slop, with cross-shore winds that will chop it to pieces. Energy readings stay weak, between 31 and 44. There’s just nothing to get excited about.
Now, Sunday the 23rd is the first glimmer of hope. The morning looks clean with about 3 feet of SSE swell and a light offshore wind. The energy bumps up to 97, which is still on the weak side, but it's clean. If you have a log, this is your chance to get some little crumbly ones. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it will be soft.
Monday the 24th is similar, with a clean morning around 2 feet. The afternoon sees the swell push up to 3 feet, but the wind goes cross-shore and messes it up. The energy is up to 120, which is our first moderate reading, but the wind kills it.
Then it goes flat again. From Tuesday the 25th through Thursday the 27th, we're looking at tiny, weak surf. The energy readings are all over the place between 31 and 167. The 27th has a longer period at 12 seconds, but the swell height is still small. It's like the ocean is teasing you.
Alright, let's talk about the one day that matters. Friday the 28th. The morning is looking like the best of the entire period. We got 4 to 4 feet of S swell with a 10-second period and a cross-offshore wind. The combined energy is up to 310, which is the strongest we've seen. It won't be a huge day, but it will be clean and have some punch. This is your standout. The afternoon backs off a bit to 3 feet, but it's still clean. Mark your calendar for this one.
The weekend after that fades fast. Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th go right back to sub-2-foot slop with cross-onshore winds. The energy drops back down to the 30 to 88 range. It's back to square one.
The start of September shows some long-period swell, but it's tiny. There are 15-second intervals on the 1st, but with only 1-foot waves. And on the very last day, the 2nd, we see a pulse to 3 feet, but with a junk 5-second period. It's clean in the morning, but the short period won't give it any power. That's a long way out, so it's just a "wait and see."
So, my honest advice? Get out on Sunday morning for some longboard waves, but don't expect much. The real day to wait for is Friday the 28th. That's the one that has the best combination of size, period, and clean winds. Everything else is just a hold-your-breath situation. This is Rusty, out.
