Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty.
Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – the next week and a half is a real slow grind at Jetty. We’ve got a long stretch ahead with barely a ripple worth jumping out of bed for. The water temp is sitting at 68°, which is about a degree and a half colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll feel that chill if you’re paddling around.
Things start off pretty flat on Friday the 10th with a tiny 1ft swell from the SSE and a 5-second period. Combined swell energy is only 24, so basically nothing doing – just poor surf conditions all day. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th aren’t any better. You’re looking at ankle-biters around 2ft to 2ft with cross-shore winds and messy conditions. Not worth a second look.
Monday the 13th through to Wednesday the 16th? More of the same – 1.0ft to 3ft, short periods, and a mix of onshore and cross winds. The combined energy barely nudges past 51 on Tuesday afternoon. Even when the wind goes offshore on Friday the 17th morning, the swell is still only 3ft from the SSW. It’s tiny and weak. The pattern stays quiet right through Sunday the 19th and into Monday the 20th.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. After that long dry spell, we finally see some life on Tuesday the 21st. The swell builds to 4ft from the SE by morning with a 7-second period, and combined energy jumps to 153. The wind is cross-offshore from the NNE, so it’s clean. That Tuesday afternoon gets a bit better – 5ft SE swell with energy at 189, still with clean conditions. It’s not firing, but it’s a start.
The standout – and I mean the *only* standout in this whole 16-day window – is Wednesday morning, July the 22nd. We get a clean 5ft east swell with a 7-second period, and the wind is light offshore from the north at just 3 mph. The combined energy hits 500 (moderate wave energy). That’s the best surf on offer, and it’s still under the 8ft mark, so it’s solid for intermediates – not too heavy for most. The swell direction (E) lines up well with Jetty’s optimum SSE (easterly swells wrap in okay here). Morning glass with offshore wind will make it clean and lined up. That Wednesday morning is your window.
After that, the swell drops fast. Wednesday afternoon goes cross-onshore and messy. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th are back to poor conditions with onshore winds and lumpy seas. Saturday the 25th has a 4ft SSE swell in the morning with clean cross-offshore wind and energy at 208 – it’s okay, not great, but rideable if you’re desperate.
So to wrap it up: big gap from now until the 21st with barely anything rideable. The best bet is Wednesday morning the 22nd – 5ft east swell, light offshore wind, clean conditions. After that, it tails off again. Crowds are only “sometimes” an issue here, but on that Wednesday morning, with the best surf in two weeks, don’t be surprised if a few other locals have the same idea.
Stay patient, check the forecasts again closer to the date. That Wednesday could be worth a sickie.
Rusty.
