Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. I’ve had a good look at the charts for Jetty, and the truth is, this 16-day window is a tough one for decent waves. The surf will be small and most of the time the wind will be messy. It’s going to be a frustrating stretch for anyone looking for a proper session.
The first half of the outlook is a real struggle. From Thursday, July 9th right through to the morning of Saturday, July 18th, it’s essentially a write-off. The swell is tiny, mostly under 3ft, with very short, weak periods around 4 to 7 seconds, and the combined energy is pitiful, barely cracking 100. The wind is constantly cross or cross-on, especially from the SW, making for choppy, lumpy conditions. The only small window of hope is Friday morning, July 10th, when we get a clean, offshore breeze from the NNW but the swell is a measly 2ft with a 5-second period. It’s clean, but barely surfable. A real tease.
The first true standout, and it’s a relative one, comes on the morning of Saturday, July 18th. The swell bumps up to 7ft from the S with a 7-second period. The combined energy jumps to 455, which is a solid pulse of power. The wind is a gentle cross-shore from the WSW, creating a slight cross-chop. This is a heavy wave size at 7ft, so this is for experienced surfers only. It’s a bit of a wild, powerful lump, but it’s the most size we see in the whole period.
Then, a real surprise. The morning of Sunday, July 19th, is where it gets interesting. The wind drops to nothing – glassy, calm conditions. The swell is a clean 4ft from the S with an 8-second period, and the combined energy is a strong 193. The water temperature is a balmy 74°, which is a massive 4° warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s a notable anomaly. The morning will be the pick of the entire outlook, offering some ordinary but surfable waves in perfect, clean conditions. Just be aware of the rain and the swell direction from the S, which is not the optimum for this spot.
After that, it’s back to the struggle. The wind picks up again with a strong breeze from the NNE on the afternoon of the 19th, and then the swell fades. The final week from July 20th to 24th is a depressing mix of small, weak swell and persistent cross-onshore winds. The swell gets a little bigger on the 22nd and 23rd, hitting 4ft-5ft from the ESE/E, but the wind is trash – fresh cross-shore or onshore, producing lumpy, choppy, and generally poor conditions. The combined energy on the 23rd hits 300-317, showing a lot of messy power, but the wind ruins it.
Bottom line: The whole 16-day run is a grind. The only two windows of interest are the morning of Saturday, July 18th for the bigger, expert-only swell, and the morning of Sunday, July 19th for the clean, glassy conditions on a modest wave. Don't get your hopes up for the rest of it.
Rusty.
