The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get stuck into what’s on the cards for Jetty.
Look, I’m not gonna sugar-coat it – this stretch is looking pretty ordinary for most of the run. We’ve got a massive dry spell to start, with basically nothing worth paddling out for until Wednesday the 20th. That’s nearly a week of flat or junk surf, so don’t bother checking the cam until then.
The first real flicker of hope comes on Monday morning, July 20th. The swell jumps to a clean 4ft out of the south, with a 9-second period giving it a bit of push. The combined energy hits 234 (moderate), and the real winner here is the wind – a gentle offshore from the NNW. That’ll keep the surface glassy and the lines tidy. Jetty should be offering up some clean, rideable banks. It’s not epic, but after a week of nothing, it’ll feel like a gift. The spot is very consistent, so you can bank on it being there. Keep in mind it’s exposed, and the optimum direction from the south-southeast lines up pretty well with this south swell. It’s an intermediate-friendly size, so the groms can have a crack too.
After that Monday morning window, it fades quick. Tuesday morning (21st) still has a little 3ft south swell with a cross-off, but the energy drops right off (111). From there, it’s back to poor conditions and onshore crud for several days.
Further out, into the last week of July, there are a few pulses of bigger swell – particularly around the 23rd and 24th with 6ft to 6ft south-easterly swells – but the wind is utterly brutal. Strong cross-onshore and onshore winds (SSE, SSW) wreck any hope of quality. The combined energy gets into the 300s (strong) but it’s just blown-out, lumpy, and messy. Unless you’re into a beating, give it a miss. Honestly, that kind of setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The standout is clear as day: Monday morning, July 20th. That’s your window. Go get it.
Rusty.
