The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee, let’s talk about the Jetty. The next 16 days are a bit of a slow burn, with a whole lot of flatness until we get towards the end of the week. The water’s about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real sign of life shows up on Sunday morning, July 19th. We’ve got a 4ft southerly swell sneaking in with a 8-second period, and the wind’s gonna be offshore from the northwest. The combined energy is a decent 176, so there’s a bit of push there. It’s surfable, but the conditions are pretty ordinary. Not a day to get excited about, but you’ll get a few.
Then Monday morning, July 20th, is worth a mention. The swell drops to 3ft from the south, but the wind goes glassy, and the energy is 94. It’ll be clean, but weak. You’ll be working for every wave.
Now, look ahead to July 22nd, Wednesday. The swell kicks up to 6ft from the south with a 9-second period, pushing the energy to 357. But the wind is a fresh cross-shore from the southwest, makin’ it lumpy and choppy. Not great for paddling, really more of a kite surfing setup if you’re into that. The afternoon cleans up a bit, though, with a cross-offshore wind and a 6ft swell (630 energy). That’s your best window in the first week, but the conditions are still only marginal.
July 31st, a Friday, brings a bit of hope. A 4ft southwest swell and glassy conditions in the morning. The energy is 161, so it’s got a little bit of weight. It’s spread out, but it’s clean. That’s your standout for the second week, but it’s a long way out so don’t bank on it just yet.
Overall, the Jetty is pretty inconsistent for the next week and a half. There’s no big, clean, open swell hitting the spot. The days with any size are plagued by onshore or cross-shore wind, and the days with good wind have little to no wave. It’s a tough stretch. The only real standout is the afternoon of July 22nd if you can handle the lumpy period, and the glassy morning of July 31st if you’re patient.
