Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at Lecounts Hollow.
First thing, the water is 69°F right now, which is a solid 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s pretty unusual.
The immediate picture is grim. The first few days of July are a total washout. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings have rain and onshore wind, and the swell is just weak and short-period. The combined energy on Tuesday morning is a weak 107, and it just gets smaller from there.
You’ve got to wait until Wednesday afternoon, July 8th, for the first real chance. The wind goes glassy, dead calm. The swell is 5ft from the east with an 8-second period, giving a moderate energy of 222. It’s the cleanest it’ll be for a while. It’s not a big swell, but with no wind, it’ll be smooth. The break is consistent, so there will be waves.
After that, the surf just disappears. From Thursday through the end of the second week, the swell is tiny, often under 3ft, and the energy is weak. The combined energy values are mostly in the double digits, like 30 or 15. That’s barely a ripple. The wind is nice at times, but there’s just no swell to push.
The next thing worth a look is a long way off. Saturday, July 18th, we get a bit more life. The morning is glassy, dead calm, with a 3ft swell from the SSE at 9 seconds. The energy is a moderate 163. It’s surfable, but “very ordinary.” Still, it’s the best we’ve seen in over a week. The afternoon of the 18th pushes up to 4ft from the SSE, with a clean cross-off breeze and a moderate energy of 237. That’s the pick of the whole 16 days.
The following day, Sunday the 19th, has a bit of size (3ft) but the wind swings cross-shore and gets fresh, so it’ll be lumpy.
So, the honest truth? There’s one standout, and it’s Wednesday afternoon, July 8th for the glassy conditions, and Saturday, July 18th for the most size and cleanest conditions. The rest of the 16 days is a long, flat stretch with a few tiny, clean but weak days. If you’re desperate, you can paddle out on the 8th or 18th, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
