The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Honestly, for the next 16 days, Lecount Hollow (California) is looking pretty flat and quiet. There’s nothing worth paddling out for right now, and it stays that way for a long stretch. The first little bump appears on Sunday the 19th of July, but even then, it’s a small 2ft SSE swell with a short 8-second period and combined energy of only (47), which is weak. The wind is cross-off from the NW, so it’s clean, but the waves are just too weak and ordinary to get excited about.
After that, there’s a real dry spell. From Monday the 20th right through to the end of the month, the swell stays tiny, mostly between 0.3ft and 3ft, with poor surf conditions and scores of zero. The combined energy hovers in the low two-digit range most days, like (17) and (8), meaning there’s just no push. On Thursday the 23rd there’s a 2ft SE swell with a period of 8 seconds and energy at (64), but the wind is cross or onshore, keeping it messy. Nothing clean enough to recommend.
Things finally perk up slightly on Sunday the 26th of July. We get a 3ft SE swell with an 8-second period, energy climbing to (84), and the wind goes offshore from the WNW at 12 mph. That’s clean, and the waves are surfable but still very ordinary. Monday the 27th is similar: 2ft SE swell, 7-second period, energy (61), and offshore wind from the W at 12 mph. Clean, but tiny.
The best of the whole outlook lands on Wednesday the 29th of July. The morning shows a 2ft ESE swell with an 8-second period, energy (49), and light offshore wind from the WNW at 6 mph. It’s clean and glassy, but honestly, the size is still small. For a spot that’s exposed and usually needs a decent push, this is more of a longboard day than anything with power.
The very end of the outlook, Thursday the 30th of July morning, shows a 4ft swell from the north, but with a very short 5-second period and energy (111). That’s moderate energy but the period is so short it’ll be lumpy and disorganised, especially with moderate cross-off wind. Not worth the paddle.
Overall, if you’re a beginner, there’s nothing over 5ft so no worries there, but there’s hardly any wave either. For experienced surfers, there’s nothing here to get excited about. The water temp is about 68°, a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, but that’s the only highlight.
Rusty.
