The Lowdown
Alright, listen up. Rusty here, and I gotta tell you, Lecount Hollow is looking pretty flat for a while. The water’s sitting at 71°F and it feels a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s the only bit of good news.
We’ve got a long, quiet stretch ahead. The first little glimmer of surfable waves doesn’t show up until Wednesday the 19th of August. Even then, it’s just a tiny 2ft windswell from the SE with a short, weak 6-second period. The combined energy is a weak 52, so there’s no punch. On the plus side, a light SW cross-offshore breeze will keep the surface clean, making it a knee-high dribbler for the patient intermediate.
Thursday the 20th morning is a similar story: a small 2ft SE swell, 7-second period, and weak energy (49). The wind turns offshore from the WNW, so it’ll be glassy as a lake, but again, there’s just nothing to ride.
Then it all goes dead. From Thursday afternoon through to Sunday the 30th of August, the scores are all zeroes. That’s over a week of flat, choppy, or onshore junk. A real bummer.
Way out there, on Monday the 31st of August, we finally see a pulse of size. It’s a long-range call, so take it with a grain of salt, but it’s the only standout. We get a 5ft NE windswell rolling in, with the energy jumping to a moderate 253. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and fat. The morning has a light NNE cross-shore, making it slightly messy. By the afternoon, the swell drops to 4-5ft but energy stays decent at 264. It’s a marginal call, and 5ft is getting a little chunky for the intermediates at this spot.
So, for the next two weeks, the clean but tiny windows mid-week are your only real chance for a wobbly ride. If you want any real size, you’re waiting until the very end of the month, and even then, don’t expect perfection.
Rusty.
