The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for Lecount Hollow.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: the next few days are a tough watch. The swell is small and the wind is mostly working against us. We’re looking at a long stretch of pretty ordinary, small, onshore or cross-shore slop. The first week is mostly a write-off unless you’re desperate for a paddle, and even then, you’d be fighting a cross-on breeze for most of it.
The one real bright spot, and it’s the best on offer across the whole 16 days, is Wednesday morning, the 26th of August. We’ve got a clean 2ft swell coming out of the ESE with that offshore wind from the west. It’s only a short period at 8 seconds, so don’t expect any bombs, but the waves will have a bit of shape. The combined energy is weak (54), but that offshore breeze will have the faces looking tidy. This is your window.
The real standout, and the only one I’d get genuinely excited about, is the early morning of Thursday the 27th of August. Glassy conditions. Wind is basically nothing at 5 mph from the WSW. The swell is a touch smaller at 2ft from the ESE, but it’s clean, it’s glassy, and the combined energy is a weak 51. For a wave that small, glass is everything. It’s not big, it’s not powerful, but it will be the cleanest, most user-friendly wave of the whole run. For anyone wanting a longboard or a funboard, that Thursday dawn patrol is your call.
After that, it’s a mixed bag of onshore winds and lower energy. Saturday the 29th of August morning has a clean 2ft from the SE under a light cross-off breeze – surfable, but nothing to write home about. The first few days of September show a bit more energy popping up around the 108-112 mark with some longer period groundswell sneaking in, but the wind is usually on it. The longer period swell (13–16 seconds) on the 31st of August and 1st of September could offer some better shaped lines, but the directions are tricky and cross-on. It’s promising but less certain, honestly.
Later on, around the 5th and 6th of September, we see a solid spike in combined energy (229 and 275) with 3ft on offer, but the wind is ripping from the north and northeast at 25–28 mph. That’s messy, lumpy, and more of a kite-surfing setup than a clean paddle surf. The water temp is about average for the time of year.
So, wrap it up: Wednesday and Thursday of next week are your best bets. After that, keep an eye on the wind, but don’t hold your breath. If you’re not out on that glassy Thursday morning, you’ll be waiting a while.
Rusty.
