Table - best surf conditions forecast for Deveraux Beach over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next 16 days at Deveraux Beach are a real struggle. There’s nothing on the cards that I’d call a proper surf. The whole window is a long, flat run with only tiny dribbles of energy, and the best we can hope for is a few clean, glassy mornings with ankle-snappers. It’s a tough one to swallow.
Starting off, Sunday the 12th of July, the swell is a pathetic 0.7 ft from the E with a weak 8-second period. The combined energy is just 10 – that’s basically nothing. Morning has a cross-off breeze from the NE at 9 mph, keeping it clean, but there’s nothing to ride. The water is 68°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so the temp’s nice, but the waves are missing.
Monday the 13th is even worse, with a horrible 0.7 ft SSE onshore wind in the morning, and the afternoon sees a messy 3 ft swell with a 4-second period and strong onshore winds. It’s junk. Tuesday and Wednesday are more of the same – tiny 0.7 ft swell, poor conditions, and a general lack of any real energy.
The end of the first week and into the second offers a tease. The 17th of July (Friday) has a glassy, calm morning with 0.3 ft of E swell, but that period is a very long 14 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 7. It’s barely a ripple. The afternoon is glassy with no wind, so it’s pretty, but it’s not surfable. The 20th of July (Monday) morning brings a bit more push – 4 ft from the E, with a 5-second period and a clean offshore wind from the N at 12 mph. The energy jumps to 65, which is still weak, but it’s the best of the lot. For a beginner, that 4 ft could be a bit much, but it’s the only time the swell gets close to 3 ft. The wind is offshore, which is a big positive, but the period is short, so the waves will be soft and crumbly.
The 26th of July (Sunday) shows a little life with a 2 ft SE swell and a 10-second period. The combined energy is 63 in the morning, and the afternoon has a clean offshore wind from the N, making it tidy. It’s still tiny, but it’s the most promising long-range call. The 24th of July (Friday) morning is glassy with 1 ft, but again, it’s small.
To be honest, Deveraux Beach is a reef break that’s fairly consistent, but there’s just no swell in the 16-day window. The big high points are the glassy mornings on the 17th and 24th, and the clean offshore session on the 20th, but none of it delivers real waves. The setup is interesting for a paddle, but you’d be better off with a kite if the wind is up. It’s a blank run, but in this area, that’s not unusual. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
