Table - best surf conditions forecast for Deveraux Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's get into this one. This forecast is a real tough slog. The data shows a long run of tiny, weak surf with the "combined energy" sitting in the single or low double digits most days – we’re talking weak energy (9 to 36) for the vast majority of the period. There's really no standout event. The first real hope for any kind of wave doesn't show up for a while.
Let’s look at Devereaux Beach. It's a reef break, rated for beginners, and it’s fairly consistent but you wouldn't know it from this forecast. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year. Now, Thursday afternoon of July 9th gives us the biggest swell of the whole run at 3 ft from the east with a period of 8 seconds and moderate energy (102). But the wind is onshore from the SSW at 9 mph, and the file says "poor surf conditions." It’s not gonna be pretty.
After that, Thursday the 10th of July morning has a cleaner look early with a cross-offshore breeze from the ENE at 6 mph, but the swell drops to just 2 ft from the east. The energy is low at 49. You'll get a few small, clean lines but nothing with any push.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell bottom out completely, with heights dropping to 1 ft and then 0.7 ft. The energy is laughable – down to 9. The winds are light and sometimes clean, but there's just no wave to work with.
There is a little blip on the horizon. Looking way ahead to Saturday the 18th of July afternoon, the wind goes offshore from the NNE at 6 mph, and the swell bumps to 3 ft from the SSE with a short, choppy period of just 5 seconds. The energy climbs to 58. It’ll be clean but short-period and weak.
Then again on Thursday the 23rd of July morning we get a shot of glassy conditions with the wind going to almost nothing from the SSE, and a 2 ft swell from the ESE. The energy is moderate (23) but the period is still short at 6 seconds. It might be worth a paddle for the ultra-longboard, but it ain't going to be a classic.
The final days of the forecast show the same story: small, weak surf from the ESE with mostly cross or cross-onshore wind. Friday the 24th of July has the energy climbing a little to 49, but it's accompanied by a 15 mph cross-onshore breeze making it choppy.
Honestly, for the first 16 days, there's not a single session I'd call a standout. The consistent, clean windows are there, but there's just no swell to go with them. If the wind stays glassy on that 23rd morning you might get a few ankle-biters, but that’s the best we can hope for. It’s one of those periods where we just have to wait and see if the forecasts change, because it never stays this quiet forever.
Rusty.
