Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me give you the straight-up story for the next couple of weeks, and I’ll be honest, it’s not looking like much.
The whole 16-day outlook for this area is a write-off for quality surf. There’s a big, empty gap where there just isn't anything worth paddling out for. We're looking at nearly two weeks of tiny, weak, and often messy conditions. The first hint of anything surfable doesn't show up until Tuesday, July 7th, and even that's a hard sell.
Checking out Deveraux Beach, a beginner-friendly reef break, there’s just nothing on the menu for the first few days. From Saturday the 4th right through to Monday the 6th, it’s all tiny 0.7 ft slop with poor windy conditions. You'd be wasting your time.
Now, things get a little interesting—but only for the brave—on Tuesday the 7th. We’ve got a pulse of energy coming through with a combined swell energy of (153) on the morning and jumping to (336) in the afternoon. The swell bumps up to 5 ft in the morning and 6 ft in the afternoon, with a short, choppy period of only 6 to 7 seconds. The wind is cross-offshore, which should keep things clean, but that size with that short period? The water temp is about 65°, which is pretty average for the time of year.
Wednesday the 8th is probably your best bet, but that’s not saying much. The morning sees a drop to 4 ft with offshore winds (NNE at 12 mph), so the face will be clean. The energy is moderate (134). The swell direction is from the E, which is close to the optimum direction of ENE, so the reef should handle it okay. By the afternoon, it backs off to 3 ft with a light cross-offshore breeze. At this size, it’s barely surfable, and you'd need a longboard for sure.
After that, from Thursday the 9th onwards, it’s game over again. The swell drops right back under 3 ft, and the winds turn onshore or cross-onshore, churning up what little ripple there is. From the 10th to the 19th of July, we are talking flat spells (0.7 ft to 2 ft), with onshore winds and combined swell energy readings as low as (7). There is a moment on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th with clean cross-offshore winds, but the swell is only 0.7 ft. Totally flat. You’re better off staying home for that.
Bottom line: Wednesday the 8th is the only window that could barely be called a surf, and even then, it's ordinary. For everyone else, it's a long, blank run. It happens. Trust me, it tends not to stay this quiet forever; forecasts change.
Rusty.
