Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me level with you: we're in for a pretty flat stretch of nothing special. This is Devereaux Beach we're talking about – a beginner-friendly reef setup that's fairly consistent, but that doesn't mean a thing when the ocean just... isn't cooperating. The whole 16-day outlook is a tough read, because there's basically no real surf on offer.
First off, the water temp at Devereaux Beach is about average for this time of year, nothing to get excited about. But honestly, you could swim laps out there this week and barely get bumped by a wave.
Let's look at what we've got. The whole first week, starting now and running through the end of the first week, it's a parade of tiny, weak swell. We're talking swell heights of 0.7 ft to 1 ft from the ESE, with periods under 10 seconds. The combined wave energy is basically a whisper, sitting between 7 and 34 all week – that's in the weak range, and it shows. The only slight glimmer comes on Tuesday the 7th of July. The morning is a write-off with 19 mph cross-shore wind and just 4 ft of short-period junk. But, check this out: Tuesday afternoon, the wind turns offshore from the NNE at 12 mph, and we get a 5 ft ESE swell with 186 moderate energy. The conditions are "surfable waves but very ordinary." It's clean because of that offshore wind, but the swell period is only 6 seconds, so it's going to be a bit weak and crumbly. Still, if you're a beginner, that Tuesday afternoon window is the only time all week you could maybe get a couple of soft, clean little rollers. Wednesday morning the 8th is similar but smaller – 3 ft, still clean with offshore wind, but the energy drops to 110. That's your second-best bet, but it's still pretty limp.
After that, the rest of the first week and all of the second week is a total bust. From Thursday the 9th right through to Sunday the 19th, we're looking at swell heights mostly under 2 ft, with combined energy regularly dipping into the single digits or low twenties. Winds are often onshore or cross-shore, creating choppy, bumpy, poor conditions. There's a brief moment on Saturday the 11th with glassy conditions on a 0.7 ft swell, but that's not surf. That's a lake.
So, the honest truth? There is not one standout session in this entire 16-day window. If you just want to get wet and sit on a board, Tuesday the 7th afternoon or Wednesday the 8th morning are technically the "best" options because of the offshore winds and a bit more size, but don't expect any real waves. For the rest of it, you're better off checking the wind forecast for kite surfing if that's your thing, because the paddle surfing is a dud.
Trust me, I've seen it go flat here, but a stretch this long is a bit of a bummer. We just have to wait for the next system to deliver something real. Keep an eye on the charts, it won't stay like this forever.
Rusty.
