Rusty here again. Let’s call it how it is – this 16-day stretch for Deveraux Beach is a bummer. No real standouts in the lineup. The overall picture is weak, with only a few hours that might tempt you to paddle out.
Starting Sunday July 5th, you’ve got 0.7ft swell from the ESE, cross-on wind, and energy at just 7 (weak). Forget it. Monday is hardly better – messy and choppy, with a brief spike to 3ft but with a 4-second period and only 39 energy. Lumpy slop.
The closest we get to a session hits early Tuesday July 7th. Swell jumps to 8ft from the east with a 7-second period and energy at 526 (strong). Winds are cross-offshore (ENE at 25 mph), so it looks clean. But 8ft is expert-only, and that short period means it’ll be a walled-up, closeout mess. Reef bottom might help, but for most it’s a spectator day.
Wednesday July 8th morning offers 5ft from the ENE, light offshore wind (NE at 6 mph), clean, with 208 energy (moderate). That’s your best shot for a rideable wave. Still, the 7-second period makes for quick, dumpy sections.
Then we hit a desert. From Thursday July 9th right through Monday July 20th, swell drops to knee-high or less, onshore or side-on winds most days, and energy rarely above 50. A couple of clean mornings (July 10th and 13th) but with swell at just 0.7ft to 2ft. You’d be chasing whitewash.
So, if you’re keen, Wednesday morning July 8th is your window. The rest of the 16 days is flat or blown out. This reef isn’t giving us much. Might be fun for the kite crew on those windier days, but for a surfboard? Tough luck.
Water temp is about 65°F, pretty normal for this time of year – nothing to blame there.
Hang tight. The surf will swing back.
Rusty.
