The Lowdown
Alright, listen up, I’m Rusty. Let’s get straight to it.
The bottom line for this stretch of coast is a total flat spell over the full 16 days. The finder shows zero recommendations for the whole period. We’re looking at a long, quiet gap from the start through to September 5th. No standouts, no hidden gems, just a whole lot of nothing.
The only break we’ve got is Deveraux Beach. It’s a reef setup, fairly consistent, but the swell just isn’t showing. The water temp is about 69°, which is normal for the time of year, so at least you won’t freeze while you’re staring at a flat ocean.
The first few days are a write-off. Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd see tiny, weak swells—1ft to 4ft—with awful cross-off or onshore winds. The combined energy is pathetic, barely cracking 93. Saturday afternoon has a little bump with a 4ft swell from the east and a 6-second period, and the wind goes offshore, so it’s surfable, but it’s ordinary. Not worth getting excited about.
Sunday the 23rd through the end of the month is just more of the same: tiny 0.7ft to 2ft slop, cross-shore or cross-onshore breezes, and energy readings that barely register (16 to 54). The swell direction is all over the place, but mostly ESE or SE, which is not the optimum ENE direction for this spot. It’s a beach-and-reef setup, and with that kind of weak, choppy wind, it’d be more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
The only glimmer of something clean is on Friday the 28th of August, when the morning goes glassy with a 1ft SE swell and an 8-second period, but the energy is only 20. It’s a tiny, weak wave. It’s clean, but you’d be struggling to get a ride.
Heading into September, same story. From the 1st to the 5th, we’re looking at 0.3ft to 1ft junk, with moderate cross-off or onshore winds. The energy is almost non-existent, with readings as low as 6. The swell periods are a bit better—8 to 9 seconds—but there’s just no height to work with.
So, what’s the takeaway? This is a blank run. It’s one of those periods where the ocean just shuts down. Forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long, but right now, don’t bother. Leave the board in the car and go find something else to do.
Rusty.
