Table - best surf conditions forecast for Deveraux Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Devereaux Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. We’ve got a long gap before anything really worth paddling out for shows up. From now, Saturday the 11th of July, right through until late on Tuesday the 21st of July, it is slim pickings. Swell heights are barely a whisper, mostly between 0.3ft and 3ft, with weak combined energy rarely breaking 30 (values like 13, 16, and 33). The wind is often cross-on or onshore, and the reports keep calling it poor surf conditions. You’re better off leaving the board in the car. There’s a brief moment on the morning of Tuesday the 21st where the swell bumps up to 7ft from the ESE, with a period of 6 seconds, but the energy jumps to 375 – moderate – and the wind is still cross-on, making it messy and choppy. Not the one to get excited about.
Now, the standout, if you can call it that, rolls in on Wednesday the 22nd of July. The morning sees a solid 10ft of swell from the E, with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy rockets up to a strong 1373. However, this is a reef break, and with that size, it’s only for experts. The wind will be a gentle cross-onshore from the SSE, so it’ll be a bit lumpy. The rating is marginal, so don’t expect perfection, but for Devereaux Beach, this is as close to a window as we get. The swell direction from the E matches the optimum direction of ENE pretty well, so it'll wrap in okay.
Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th of July still have some size – 6ft to 3ft – but the wind is howling from the E and ENE at 22-25 mph, making it a complete mess for paddle surfing. With that much cross-shore wind and a beach-reef setup, this looks way more interesting for the kite crew than us.
The water temperature is about average for this time of year, no major anomaly to mention, so your wettie choice stays the same.
Right then, that’s the story. It’s a long wait for a short window of heavy, expert-only waves. Forecasts can always shift, but as it stands, choose your moments carefully.
Rusty.
