Table - best surf conditions forecast for Deveraux Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Deveraux Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: this is a tough stretch of flatness. The first week and a half are basically a write-off. From now until Saturday the 20th of July, it’s all tiny, weak, and messy. Swell heights barely reach 2ft, periods are short, and the combined wave energy is nowhere to be found – mostly single digits (10 to 29). There’s a bit of clean, cross-off wind on a few mornings, but with nothing to surf, it doesn’t matter. It’s a long, dry gap.
Then, finally, Monday the 20th of July morning shows some life. The water’s running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Deveraux Beach is a fairly consistent reef break, but it’s a beginner spot, and this swell is a bit of a handful. We’re looking at a 7ft swell coming from the ENE, with a short period of 7 seconds. The combined wave energy is a moderate 375. The real kicker here is the wind – it’s glassy, dead calm. That’s a major positive for clean waves. But, that 7ft is pushing into the “too big for beginners” zone, and it’s a short-period swell, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and disorganised. It’s the best on offer by a long shot, but it’s more of a novelty window than a standout. The afternoon gets ruined by a cross-onshore breeze.
Tuesday the 21st drops off quickly – 4ft in the morning with a cross-on wind, so it’s choppy and messy. The energy drops to 158. By Wednesday the 22nd, we’re back into tiny, weak knee-high dribble that’s clean but useless.
The following Friday, the 24th of July, gives us a little pulse. A 5ft to 5ft ESE swell with a 7-second period, and moderate energy (184 to 193). The wind is cross-off in the morning, so it’ll be clean, but the period is short. It’s a decent option for the second week, but nothing to get emotional about. The rest of that week is small and clean but unremarkable.
So, the hard truth is there’s only one real window that’s worth paddling out for: the Monday morning of the 20th of July. The rest of the 16 days is a flat, choppy, or tiny mess. Keep an eye on the forecasts, because when it’s been this quiet for this long, sometimes a change comes through. But for now, sharpen your other hobbies.
Rusty.
