The Lowdown
G’day, this is Rusty.
It’s gonna be a tough stretch for a wave at Newcombs Hollow. The whole 16-day window looks pretty flat for the most part, with only a couple of mornings that *might* give you something to push into.
First up, on Wednesday the 15th of July, the swell is tiny – 0.7 ft from the ESE with a 9-second period and combined energy of just 8 – so it’s basically a non-starter. The wind’s a cross-off in the morning and then goes glassy in the afternoon, but with that little bump, you’re better off leaving the board at home.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are even worse – 1 ft and 0.3 ft, with short-period junk and cross-off or cross-on winds. Nothing to get excited about.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th stays tiny, with combined energy in the single digits for most of it. On Sunday the 19th you get a bit more height – 3 ft to 3 ft – but it’s short-period from the ESE/E (5 seconds) and cross-onshore, so it’ll be lumpy and weak. Combined energy hits 68 (still moderate at best) but the quality’s poor.
Monday the 20th through to Wednesday the 22nd stays small and messy. Winds are mostly cross or cross-onshore, with swell heights hovering around 1 ft to 2 ft. The only real flicker is on Monday the 27th, when you get 3 ft from the SE at 7 seconds, combined energy of 95 (moderate), and clean conditions with a cross-off breeze. That’s the only morning in the whole outlook that’s even *surfable* – but it’s very ordinary.
Tuesday the 28th morning also gets a “surfable” rating with 3 ft from the SE, 7 seconds, and 58 energy, but again, it’s nothing special.
After that, it fades back into tiny, weak, and clean nothingness through to the end of the month.
The water temperature is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
So – bottom line – if you’re keen to paddle out, your best bet is the morning of Monday the 27th or Tuesday the 28th. It’s not going to be epic, but it’s the only time you’ll get a wave worth the effort. The rest of the window is a write-off.
Rusty.
