Table - best surf conditions forecast for 5th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let me give you the straight story for 5th Street. Honestly, it’s been a tough run, and I’ve got to tell you up front: we’re sitting through a long, flat spell right now.
Right now, there’s nothing doing. The water temp is sitting at 75°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing going for it. The waves are basically non-existent for the first week and a half. From the 12th right through to the morning of the 19th, it’s a desert. Tiny windswell, if you can even call it that, with a combined swell energy struggling to get out of the 40s (44), and every session is getting a big fat zero from me. It’s a mix of onshore and cross-onshore breezes making it choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out.
Now, the first flicker of hope pops up on Sunday morning, the 19th. We see a jump to 5ft from the ENE, but the period is a short 5 seconds – just windswell. The combined energy is finally moderate at 218, but the wind is cross-offshore from the WSW, so it should look pretty clean. The problem is the setup is a beach/jetty, so it’s probably going to be a bit lumpy and ordinary. I’d give it a watch, not a sprint to the water.
Monday the 20th holds a similar story. Swell hangs in at 4ft from the ENE, again with a short period, but the combined energy is solid at 226. Offshore winds from the North on Monday morning will keep it clean. Again, it’s surfable but nothing to call home about.
After that, it gets a bit flukey again until the end of the month. The standout, if you can call it that, is the weekend of the 25th and 26th. Saturday the 25th morning shows 5ft from the south with clean cross-offshore wind from the WSW. The combined energy is strong, hitting 323. Sunday the 26th afternoon brings a similar 5ft south swell, with energy peaking at 427, and it stays clean. This is the best we’re likely to see. The size is manageable for a competent intermediate; at 5ft it’s not for beginners, but it’s not a beast either. The wind should be good. Just keep in mind, the south swell direction isn’t a perfect match for the optimum SE direction at this spot, so it might not have great shape. Also, the crowds are listed as sometimes, so you might have a few buddies out, but it shouldn’t be a zoo. This is the one to target.
Between the 19th and the 27th, there are a few clean moments, but the waves just aren't there most of the time. It’s a frustrating outlook, but the end of the month has some promise.
Signing off,
Rusty
