Table - best surf conditions forecast for The South Jetty over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's be straight with you – the outlook for The South Jetty over the next sixteen days is a tough one. We're looking at a long stretch of flat, messy conditions before a glimmer of hope shows up way down the line. It's a beach/jetty setup that's exposed to the swell, so it needs everything to line up, and frankly, it's not happening for a while.
The entire first week, from Thursday the 9th right through to Wednesday the 23rd of July, is a write-off. The combined swell energy is barely a whisper, mostly sitting in the weak 10 to 90 range (low two-digit numbers). The swell is tiny, short-period slop, and the wind is all over the place – mostly cross-onshore or cross, making it choppy and poor. You'll see a few glassy patches on Saturday the 11th afternoon and Friday the 17th morning, but with swell heights of only 0.7ft to 1ft and a period of 4-8 seconds, there's just no energy to work with. It's a long, flat gap with no real surf on offer.
Now, the only thing that's even worth a mention comes much later. On Monday the 20th of July, we finally see a pulse of energy. The morning session shows a southerly swell pushing 5ft with a 6-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 130 (moderate). The wind is a light offshore from the NNW, which is a major positive and will make for clean conditions. The South Jetty is exposed to the swell and the optimum direction is SE, so this southerly swell is a bit of a mismatch, but it's the only game in town. The afternoon gets messy again with a cross-onshore wind and a bigger 5ft (201 energy) but it's choppy and poor. So, the standout window is Monday morning, July 20th. It's still a long way off, so treat it as a promising but uncertain prospect. If you're desperate, that's your one shot. The water temp is average for this time of year.
This is Rusty, signing off.
