The Lowdown
Alright, this is a bit of a tough one to call. The South Jetty is a beach and jetty setup that's exposed to the open ocean, but honestly, looking at the next 16 days, we’re in for a long, flat spell with only a few flickers of hope.
The first real chance at anything surfable doesn't show up until the 20th of July. Before that, we’re looking at a solid week of tiny, weak waves. The water is notably warm right now, sitting at 77°F, which is a solid 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year – feels more like a summer bath than a surf.
The first bit of energy arrives on the morning of the 20th. We’ll see a bump in swell to 5ft coming from the ENE, but the period is a short 6 seconds and the combined energy is moderate (219). The wind is light and cross-onshore, which will put some ripples on the face. It’s a marginal call, and the afternoon gets worse with a direct onshore wind. Tuesday the 21st is similar, with 4-4ft of short-period, onshore slop. Not great.
The one standout in this whole outlook is the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of July. We finally get a break. The swell drops to a clean 3ft from the East, with a 7-second period, and the wind goes glassy. Combined energy is still only moderate (135), but with the wind flat and the surface like glass, The South Jetty will be surfable. It’s not going to be pumping, but it’ll be the cleanest waves on offer. The afternoon stays glassy with the swell dropping to 2ft.
After that, it’s a slow fade. The morning of the 27th of July might offer another clean session with 3ft and light offshore wind, but the energy is weak (86). The rest of the period is a mix of onshore winds, thunderstorms, and tiny surf.
Honestly, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the 22nd is your best bet. Glassy conditions at a consistent spot are rare, and it’ll be worth it for a few clean, small waves. Just keep your expectations in check.
