The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what we’ve got over the next couple of weeks for The South Jetty.

Alright, this stretch looks pretty flat and quiet overall. We’re looking at a real run of days with barely a bump on offer. The first actual chance of anything surfable doesn’t even show up until Sunday the 19th.

The South Jetty is the only spot in the mix, a beach and jetty setup that’s exposed to the swell. Water temps are running much warmer than normal right now, sitting around 77°F, with an anomaly that’s way above average.

The first day that’s even worth mentioning is Sunday the 19th. We’ve got a tiny 3ft SSE swell on the morning with a period of only 7 seconds – pretty weak and short, combined energy is just 70 (weak). But the wind is offshore from the NW, so it’ll be clean and rideable, just very small and weak. The afternoon glass off with 2ft from the south is actually your best window that day. It’s not going to be anything to write home about, just getting wet.

Then it goes right back to nothing for almost the whole week after. Wednesday the 22nd afternoon sees a slight bump in energy with a 3ft SSE swell and the period stretches to a better 9 seconds, combined energy up to 149 (moderate). Wind is cross-offshore, so it’ll be clean. But the swell is still small, and honestly, the quality is poor.

After that, it’s tiny and mostly messy through the rest of the period. The only other little window might be Saturday the 25th when it goes glassy but with only 2ft of weak wind swell.

Honestly, if you’re out here for the next two weeks, don’t get your hopes up. The standout is the sunny, glassy Sunday morning session on the 19th and the clean but small Wednesday afternoon on the 22nd. Neither are classic, but they’re as good as it gets.

The rest of the run is basically flat and blown out. If you’ve got a kite, you might find more fun than on a surfboard. It’s one of those blank runs that happens here – just not a lot of energy lining up.

Stay patient, Rusty.
