Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove Cape May over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s happening at The Cove Cape May. I gotta be honest – this stretch is lookin’ pretty thin. There’s no real standout swell to get excited about, and for a lot of this forecast, you’re better off stayin’ on dry land.
The first few days from Thursday, July 9th, through the weekend are tiny. We’re talkin’ 1ft to 2ft with poor wind. Saturday morning, July 11th, goes glassy, but with only 1ft and weak energy, it’s barely a ripple. Not worth wettin’ your wetsuit.
We finally see a little bump on Monday, July 13th, with a clean offshore wind and a 4ft swell from the east, but the period is a short 6 seconds and the energy is still weak. It’s clean, but it won’t give you much push. Tuesday, July 14th, morning is the best of a bad bunch: 3ft from the ESE, 8-second period, with a light offshore breeze and moderate energy. It’s surfable, but “very ordinary” is the word. Clean, but the waves are just okay.
After that, it drops right back down. From Wednesday, July 15th, all the way through to Sunday, July 19th, we’re lookin’ at tiny stuff – 0.5ft to 2ft – with onshore or cross-shore winds messin’ it up. Total slop.
The next real chance comes on Monday, July 20th. The morning shows a 4ft swell from the south, with a light offshore breeze and clean conditions. The energy is still weak, but it’s the first time we get a bit of size. By the afternoon, the swell jumps to 5ft from the south with energy climbin’ up, but the wind comes around cross-shore, makin’ it messy. That afternoon surf is gonna be a bit of a washout for a paddle board – might actually be more fun for a kite surfer if the wind holds.
Tuesday, July 21st, morning is glassy again with a 4ft south swell, but the energy is low and the period is short. It’s clean, but not exciting. Wednesday, July 22nd, morning is glassy too, with 3ft from the SSE, but again, nothin’ special.
The rest of the run into Thursday, July 24th, is mostly small, choppy, and not worth the drive. The best bet in this whole 16-day window is probably the Tuesday, July 14th, morning or the Monday, July 20th, morning for a clean, small-wave session. But don’t expect any barrels. This is a quiet stretch for Cape May, and it’s just how it goes sometimes.
Rusty.
