The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the menu for The Cove Cape May.
To be straight with you, the next two weeks are looking pretty quiet. There’s a big gap of nothing worthwhile from the start, with the first hint of a surfable wave not showing up until Wednesday, July 22nd. That’s a solid six-day dry spell.
The waves are tiny across the whole period, mostly under 3 feet, with short, weak periods. The combined energy numbers are mostly in the weak range, under 100 (like 5, 6, 9), so there’s just no power behind them. The water temp is around 75°, which is about normal for the season.
The only session that even gets a nod is the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd. The Cove Cape May (point) will see a clean 3 feet swell from the SSE, with an 8-second period, and a light north wind keeping it cross-offshore and clean. Combined energy is 83 (weak), but it’s the only time the report says “surfable” instead of “poor.” It’s a small wave, and the crowd is often there, so don’t expect solitude. It’s the best of a very flat run.
A few other mornings, like Friday, July 24th, and Saturday, July 25th, show clean conditions with tiny 2-foot waves, but the energy is still weak. The afternoon of Saturday the 25th actually sees a bump in combined energy to 105 (moderate), but the wind goes cross-shore and the notes say “poor.” So that’s a wash.
The very end of the window, on the morning of Friday, July 31st, shows a clean 2 feet cross-off swell from the SE, but again, it’s small and weak. For the whole 16 days, there’s no standout. It’s a flat spell, plain and simple. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home.
