Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove Cape May over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – the next couple weeks at The Cove Cape May aren’t exactly setting the world on fire. We’ve got a point break that’s fairly consistent and leans toward an SE swell, but the wave heights are tiny through most of the period and the winds keep switching around. There are a few brief windows where it gets clean enough to be worth a paddle, but you’ll have to pick your moments. Crowds are often around here, so don’t expect solitude.
First up, Wednesday morning July 8th. The morning session brings a small 3 ft swell from the east-northeast with a short 6-second period. Combined energy sits at 112 – moderate, but nothing special. What saves it is a light cross-offshore breeze from the NE at 3 mph, keeping conditions clean. Score one star for surfable but ordinary. By afternoon the wind swings SSE and picks up, turning it cross-onshore and choppy. That morning window is your best bet on day one.
Then we hit a real dry spell. From Wednesday afternoon all the way through to Sunday July 12th, every session gets a big fat zero – poor surf, tiny waves, and mostly cross-onshore wind. Monday July 13th morning sees a little pulse: 3 ft from the east-southeast, still short period (6s), but the wind is cross-off from the east at 16 mph, keeping it clean. Still, the score only hits zero – not recommended. Tuesday July 14th morning finally nudges back to “surfable but ordinary” – 3 ft from the east-southeast, 7-second period, cross-off wind from the east at 9 mph, clean faces, and energy of 68. It’s rideable but weak.
Now here’s the standout – if you’ve been waiting, this is the one. Wednesday July 15th morning. Glassy. Pin-drop glassy. A light southerly breeze at 3 mph, zero ripple. Swell comes in at 2 ft from the southeast, 8-second period – still short but better than a slap. Combined energy hits exactly 100, which is moderate and about as good as it gets in this run. The break is a point, so that short period isn’t ideal, but with clean, glassy conditions you’ll get a few fun ones. It’s the only morning where the wind report says “glassy” – treat it like gold.
After that, we’re back to zeros. Thursday July 16th morning has a brief onshore southerly, then the winds go cross-off again Friday July 17th, but the swell drops to 2 ft and 2 ft – not enough to get excited. The rest of the forecast into the following week stays tiny, with mostly cross-onshore and onshore winds, and energy values barely reaching double digits. By July 23rd it’s 0.7 ft – basically flat.
So, to sum it up: Wednesday July 8th morning is a sneak, but the real highlight is Wednesday July 15th morning. Glassy, clean, and a small but rideable southeast swell. Get out there early, expect a few others in the water, and enjoy the best of a pretty quiet stretch.
