The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. I’ve scanned the next 16 days for Cape May, and honestly, we’re looking at a real flat spell. The surf is small, weak, and the conditions are just not cooperating. There’s no standout swell, no clean power, and the wind is messing with what little there is. It’s a tough stretch for anyone looking to get a proper wave.
The first real chance at anything comes on Saturday, July 25th over at The Cove Cape May. That’s over a week away, so keep that in mind. We finally see a bit of energy with a solid 6 ft swell from the SSE, but the period is short at 8 seconds, and the wind is a cross-onshore. That combo is going to chop it up something fierce. The combined wave energy is strong at 774, but that’s a lot of messy, unruly power. For a point break like The Cove, that short period swell and choppy wind will make it a struggle. Earlier that morning, there’s a cleaner window with light cross-onshore winds and a 4 ft SSE swell, but the energy is still moderate at 226, and the quality isn’t there for a standout session.
The rest of the window is honestly a write-off. We’re talking knee-high dribble, or swell that’s too short and weak to even bother with. The water temp is sitting at 75°F, which is basically normal for this time of year, so at least a spring suit is fine.
Bottom line: there’s nothing here that I’d be excited about. The forecast can change, but as it stands, this is a stretch to leave the board in the car and enjoy the beach vibes. The conditions are just too poor for any decent paddle.
Rusty.
