Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove Cape May over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's happening at The Cove Cape May. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – it's going to be a real dry spell for surf. We're looking at a long stretch of flat, poor conditions that's basically a bust for anyone with a paddleboard.
Right now, and for most of the next two weeks, The Cove is basically a pond. The water's a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at about 76°, but that's the only bright spot. The swell energy is almost non-existent, with combined energy readings barely scratching 25 early on, and often sitting at just 8. We're talking about waves that won't even tickle your ankles, with heights bouncing between 0.3ft and 2ft. The wind is mostly cross-shore or cross-onshore, keeping the surface messy and ugly. Even when we get a clean window with light cross-offshore breezes on Saturday the 11th morning, there's just no swell to push anything.
This flat spell just drags on. The energy finally starts to build around the 23rd of July, with combined energy reaching 110 to 135, and the wave height climbs to 3ft to 4ft. But with those short 7-second periods and cross-offshore winds, the forecast still says poor surf conditions. It's not until the morning of Friday the 24th of July that we see something even slightly rideable. The swell is 3ft from the SSE with an 8-second period, and light winds will clean it up a bit. The combined energy is 133, so it's moderate. But the forecast calls it "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions" – it's a small, weak wave for the die-hards, not a day to get excited about. It drops right back into poor, onshore chop after that.
So here's the deal: the only window with any potential is the morning of Friday the 24th of July at The Cove. It's a point break that's fairly consistent and fairly exposed to a SE swell, but the swell is coming from the SSE, so it's not hitting it at the best angle. The waves will be small and weak. If you're aching for a paddle and the wind plays nice, you might get a few knee-high sliders. But if you want any real push or power, this whole 16-day run is a write-off.
Rusty.
