Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Cove Cape May over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. For the next two weeks here at The Cove Cape May, it’s a tough stretch. We’ve got a big gap of flat or poor quality surf before anything really gets going.
Right now, the water is sitting at 77° – that’s much warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least a paddle won’t give you the shivers.
Tuesday morning, July 7th, is our first chance, but it’s a weak one – 3ft from the ENE with a short period of 6 seconds. Combined swell energy is weak (54). Wind is offshore from the NE at 12 mph, so the surface will be clean, but there’s just not enough push. It’s surfable but very ordinary.
From Tuesday afternoon all the way through to Saturday, July 18th, we’re looking at poor conditions. Heights barely nudge 1ft to 3ft, periods stay short, and the wind is often cross-on or just messy. There’s a few clean moments, like Saturday morning July 11th with a light offshore, but the swell is tiny – 0.7ft. Not worth wetting the suit.
Sunday, July 19th, is the only real standout in the whole outlook. The morning shows a bump in swell to 6ft from the south, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to a moderate 285. It’s still a short-period swell, so the shape won’t be epic, but there is some size. The wind is light cross-on from the WSW at just 3 mph, so it’ll be clean with only small ripples. This is the pick of the fortnight, though it’s really more for intermediate surfers – at 6ft it’s getting a bit big for beginners. The afternoon goes onshore and drops off.
After that, Monday July 20th through to Wednesday July 22nd sees dropping swell, mostly in the 1ft to 3ft range, with clean conditions at times but nothing with enough energy to get excited about.
You’ve got a long wait, mostly flat or poor, with only that Sunday July 19th morning offering something you could actually surf with a smile. Keep an eye on the forecasts – things can change, but right now it’s a lean run.
