Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight up, looking at the next 16 days at The Cove Cape May, it’s a tough one. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing worthwhile to start, and honestly, the whole window is a flat spell. There’s no standout, no day to circle on the calendar. It’s just one of those periods where the ocean is taking a nap.
The first real chance to even look at the water comes on Tuesday the 7th of July. The early morning is the best of a bad bunch. We’re seeing a tiny 2ft swell from the SSE, but it’s a glassy morning with a SSW breeze at only 3 mph. That’s the only time the wind plays nice, and it’ll be clean. But the wave energy is a weak 66, and the swell period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s going to be small, weak, and very ordinary. The poor surf conditions comment is spot on. It’s barely surfable, and honestly, only for someone who just needs to get wet. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 74°F, which is about 3°F above the average for this time of year.
After that, it’s back to the same story. The rest of the forecast is filled with poor surf conditions, cross-on winds, and tiny swell. From the 8th of July all the way through to the 19th of July, every single session is scored as a zero. The swell heights barely kiss 4ft on the afternoon of the 9th, but that comes with a screaming 25 mph south wind, turning it into a messy, choppy, howling mess. The wind is way too strong for any kind of paddle surfing. Honestly, with that setup, it’s more interesting for a kite surfer than anyone with a surfboard.
The combined energy stays low, mostly in the 20s and 50s. There’s a brief 4ft bump on the 17th of July afternoon, but it’s from the S at 5 seconds and hammered by a 12 mph SE wind. It’s a total write-off.
So, to wrap it up, there’s nothing to get excited about. The 7th of July morning is the only window with glassy conditions, but the swell is too small to do anything fun. The rest is a long, flat, windy gap. Stay patient. It tends not to stay this poor for long, and forecasts can change, but right now, leave the board in the car.
Rusty.
