Alright, this is Rusty checking in.
Honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead for 38th St Beach. We’re looking at a pretty extended dry spell, over two weeks of mostly flat or junky conditions. The opening days through mid-July are a write-off, with barely any swell and winds messing things up. We do get a small bump of energy around the 10th, but the wind is onshore, making a mess of it. That little pulse of 3ft to 4ft from the S-SSE with a short period is not going to give you anything worth paddling out for.
The water is running a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, sitting at 73°F.
The only flicker of hope comes towards the end of the run. On the morning of Wednesday, July 15th, and again on the morning of Thursday, July 16th, we get clean conditions with a light cross-offshore W wind and a modest 3ft swell from the SSE. The wave energy is weak, but it'll be the cleanest you'll see. It’s not a standout, just the least bad option. These are really the only sessions worth even a look.
Apart from those couple of clean windows, the rest is a mix of onshores, cross-chop, and tiny waves. If the wind stays up and the swell stays weak, the setup here is honestly looking more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
Rusty.
