Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the surf ahead for our local stretch.
Gotta be straight with you – it’s a lean run. The swell is tiny and the conditions are mostly ordinary for the next two weeks. The water’s sitting at about 75°F which feels way warmer than normal for this time, which is a nice bonus for a paddle.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, there’s no real standout. The first week is basically a wipeout. From Friday the 3rd through to the 10th, we’ve got tiny waves – under 2ft most days – with messy cross-shore or onshore wind. The best we see is on the morning of Friday the 10th of July, when a light cross-offshore breeze cleans up a 2ft southerly swell (51 combined energy) – it’s surfable but very ordinary. You’d be scratching for knee-high lumps.
Then we hit a big gap. From Saturday the 11th right through until Sunday the 12th, the same story: small, choppy, onshore junk. Not worth suiting up.
Monday the 13th of July morning brings a little pulse: a 3ft easterly swell with a short 5 second period, but it’s clean with a light offshore. Energy’s still weak at 79. It’s one of the better windows but still nothing to get excited about.
After that, the middle of the week sees a drop back to 2ft or less, with a few clean pockets but no size. The best chance for a session might be Wednesday morning, July 15th, with a 1.0ft south-easterly swell, light offshore wind, and glassy conditions – tiny but clean.
Later in the second week, Friday the 17th of July afternoon shows a spike of 5ft southerly swell (155 combined energy), but the wind is fresh cross-onshore and lumpy, so the beach break will be a messy, blown-out mess – probably more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers. Saturday the 18th morning cleans up with a 3ft south-south-easterly swell and a cross-offshore breeze (111 combined energy), offering some workable walls but nothing special.
Overall, there’s not a single standout session in this 16-day stretch. If you’re desperate, the cleanest tiny waves are on the 10th and 13th mornings, but don’t expect much. It’s a quiet period for 38th St Beach.
Rusty.
