The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, and it’s time for the full 16-day picture for your local stretch. Honestly, looking at this run, it’s a tough one. We are staring down a long, flat-to-manky spell. The first week is basically a write-off.
We kick off on Sunday the 16th with some weak, messy SSE wind swell. That’s a no-go. Conditions just don’t come together until we hit the second week. There is a gap of several days here where I wouldn’t bother paddling out.
The first real flicker of hope doesn’t arrive until Thursday the 27th of August. States Avenue (Gas Chambers) could see a bit of a pulse early that morning. We’re looking at some moderate wave energy (157) coming from the ENE, giving us waist-to-chest-high sets around 3 ft. There will be a bit of period in the swell, which is nice, and it’s clean with a light offshore breeze from the NNE. That makes it the best-looking window in the whole outlook, but with scores being so low across the board, keep your expectations in check. The water temp is sitting pretty, a touch warmer than normal at 77°, so you won't need the thick rubber.
Other than that? It’s slim pickings. Friday the 28th has some clean offshore wind early on the morning, but the swell is tiny at 2 ft and only carrying moderate energy (71). Still, if you’re desperate for a glide on a log, that might be your only other chance.
The crowds at States Avenue can be an issue when it’s good, but to be honest, with how weak this forecast is, I doubt you’ll be fighting for waves. Just don't expect much shape. There’s a real lack of size and quality here for the next two weeks. Sometimes the ocean just takes a nap. Keep the board in the car and hope the models change – they usually do.
Stay stoked, or at least patient.
Rusty.
