The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. It’s your local surf reporter Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for the area. I’ll be straight with you: the surf’s not exactly firing, so we’re going to have to be patient.
We’ve got a long stretch with very little to get excited about. The first real recommendation doesn’t pop up until the back half of the period, so don’t expect any waves that are worth rushing out for early on.
For the first week and a half, it’s a lot of small, weak surf. The swell heights are mostly hanging around 1 foot to 3 feet, with periods under 10 seconds, so it’s just windswell and bumpy. The wind is all over the place, but mostly cross or cross-onshore, so the surf quality is pretty poor. The water temperature is sitting at 75°F, which is just a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a nice thing for a paddle.
We’re looking at a real gap with no standout surf. The first whisper of something more interesting arrives on Thursday, July 24th morning. That’s over a week away. The swell picks up to 3 feet from the SSE, with the combined energy hitting 164 – that’s moderate energy. The wind is just a light breeze from the SSW, so it’s almost glassy. That’s your best chance for a decent session. The swell is a little too weak for it to be a classic, but it’s clean.
The other option that shows some promise is on Saturday, July 26th morning. The swell is 2 feet from the ESE, with a period of 11 seconds, so it’s got a bit more push. The combined energy is 170, which is solidly moderate. The wind is a gentle breeze from the ENE, so it’s a cross-shore, which is okay. It’s not pristine, but it’s the most consistent option we’ve got in that second week.
After that, the Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th mornings still have some swell, but it drops back down to 2 feet, and the wind gets a bit messier. The energy stays in the 70s, so it’s weak.
Honestly, for the entire 16-day window, there’s not a single day I’d call a standout. The forecast is just a long run of poor surf conditions. The best bet is to keep an eye on the Thursday the 24th morning for a small, clean window. The rest of the time, it’s a lot of small, choppy, or wind-affected stuff. It’s a bit of a flat spell, but it’s normal for this spot in the summer. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
