Table - best surf conditions forecast for States Avenue (Gas Chambers) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me look at what’s cookin’. Gotta be straight with you – this one’s a tough stretch. For the first week and a half, you’re lookin’ at tiny, choppy, just plain lousy surf. Not worth wetting a wetsuit for. There’s a big gap from now all the way up until around the 20th of July where there ain’t a single decent session.
The only time things even twitch is early Tuesday morning, the 21st of July, at States Avenue (Gas Chambers). The swell is 3ft from the ENE, and it’s glassy – dead flat wind. Water temp is 76°, much warmer than usual for the season. Combined wave energy is moderate at 122. But man, the waves are ordinary and the quality is still poor. It’s a 1 out of 10 situation – barely surfable.
Then things get a little bigger but uglier. Thursday the 23rd brings 5ft to 6ft swell from the E, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy. Energy hits strong at 263. By Saturday the 25th, there’s a 4ft SE swell with a 9-second period and a fresh cross-breeze making lumpy chop – energy is really pumping at 489, but it’s a mess. That’s more for kite-surfing than a clean paddle session.
The last chance is Sunday the 26th morning, with a 3ft SSE swell and a gentle cross-shore breeze. Energy is moderate at 111, but still only poor surf.
Bottom line: the tiny glassy window on the 21st is your only real shot, and it’s weak. If you’re not desperate, give this one a miss.
Rusty.
