Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, let’s get into it. Honestly, it’s a pretty flat and frustrating outlook for the next couple of weeks around here. We’re looking at Indian River (Northside) as our only option, and to be blunt, the surf is tiny and the conditions are messy for the vast majority of the period. There’s a long gap of nothing worthwhile right off the bat.
For Saturday the 4th, we’ve got tiny 1ft swell from the SE with a 9-second period. That combined wave energy is only 24 – real weak stuff. Morning has light cross-shore wind but it’s still just poor surf. The afternoon gets a bit of a cross-chop with a seabreeze picking up. Not worth a paddle.
Sunday the 5th is more of the same – 1ft to 1.0ft swell, short 8-second period, and cross-onshore wind making it choppy. Water temp is sitting at a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, around 74°, which is nice but doesn’t help the flatness.
Monday the 6th brings a bit more wind and a messy 2ft to 2ft swell, but it’s super short-period wind swell from the SSE at 4 to 5 seconds. The energy is still barely registering (25 to 30). Not surfable in any meaningful way.
We finally get a tiny glimmer on Tuesday morning the 7th. Swell bumps up to 2ft from the SSE with a 6-second period, and we get a light cross-offshore wind from the SW. The combined energy is still low at 49, but the wind cleans it up and it becomes surfable – though still very ordinary. Tuesday afternoon goes onshore again, so no good.
From Wednesday the 8th all the way through to Friday the 11th, it’s a real grind. Swell stays under 3ft, period is short, and winds are mostly cross or onshore. There’s a brief moment on Friday afternoon the 10th where the wind goes light cross-off from the SSW, and the waves are a tiny 2ft with 6-second period, but again – only just surfable and nothing to get excited about. Combined energy is only 44.
The next standout doesn’t come until Sunday afternoon the 12th. Swell picks up to 4ft from the E with a 6-second period, and we finally get a clean offshore breeze from the WSW. The combined energy hits 90 – still weak, but it’s the best we’ve seen. That’s the pick of the whole outlook right there. For a beginner beach/jetty setup like this, 4ft is manageable, but the short period (6 seconds) means the waves will be a bit soft and won’t hold much shape.
Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th sees a few more mornings and afternoons with clean offshore winds (NW and W), but the swell drops back to 2ft to 2ft. The energy stays under 71. It’s pretty, but there’s hardly any wave to ride.
From Thursday the 16th right through to Sunday the 19th, it fades into tiny wind swell again, mostly under 3ft, with onshore or cross-off winds. The weekend of the 18th and 19th has some clean windows with light cross-off breezes, but the swell is just too small to get excited about.
So the bottom line: the best day to even think about paddling is Sunday afternoon the 12th at Indian River (Northside). That 4ft east swell with light offshore wind is your best shot. Everything else is a flat, choppy, or tiny struggle. If you’re a beginner, the rest of the period is a write-off – it ain’t for you. If you’re a kiter, some of those windy afternoons might look interesting, but for a surfboard, it’s a long wait for very little.
