Well folks, it's Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are gonna be a tough watch around here. That flat spell is going to stretch out for days, and honestly, there's nothing that really gets the heart pumping.
The first real surf recommendation comes on Sunday, July 12th, and it's for Freeport Channel. This is a beach/pier setup that's sheltered and inconsistent. The water's sitting at a warm 85° which is about average for the time of year. We've got a tiny bit of energy showing late on the 12th with swell coming from the SE at 4ft, but the period is a short 5 seconds. The combined swell energy is a weak 59, which just isn't enough to do anything special. Winds are onshore from the SSE at 16 mph, so it'll be messy. It's poor surf conditions, no two ways about it. This spot is advanced only, and with crowds possible, it's not somewhere you want to be fighting for scraps.
Things try to pick up a little around Monday July 13th into Tuesday the 14th. Swell pushes up to 5ft from the SE, with periods creeping to 7 seconds. Combined energy hits 262-266, which is moderate, but the catch is the wind. Tuesday morning we get cross-onshore from the ESE at 9 mph, then it swings cross-shore in the afternoon. That means a choppy, lumpy surface. The swell direction is E/SE, which isn't the optimum E direction the spot prefers. It's still all poor surf conditions across the board.
There's a bump on Wednesday the 15th with 5ft from the SE and light onshore winds, energy around 206, but again, it's not clean enough, and the period is still short at 7 seconds. The whole run is just a series of "poor surf conditions" labels. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing through this period, if I'm being honest.
After that, the swell fades again through the end of the run, dropping back to 2ft by the 17th and then tiny cross-on chop through the 18th and 19th. Nothing to get excited about.
So here's the reality: there's a massive gap of flat, poor conditions from now all the way through to the first glimmer on July 12th, and even then it's not good. The whole 16-day window is a struggle. No standouts, no diamonds in the rough. Just one of those quiet runs for the area.
Rusty.
