The Lowdown

Alright surfers, Rusty here with the rundown on Teacapan. It's a bit of a quiet one, so let's keep it real.

We're looking at a stretch of small, weak swell and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds that just doesn't want to let up. The water is seriously warm right now, sitting at 90°, which is a good 4° warmer than what we'd normally expect for this time of year.

Starting off on Tuesday the 28th, we've got a little pulse of SW swell at 4ft, with a very long 16-second period. That long period points to some proper groundswell energy, but the cross-onshore wind from the WNW (9 mph) is going to put a chop on it. The combined energy is still strong at 1237, but the conditions are just marginal. You might find a sneaky one on the point if you’re an intermediate, but don’t expect much.

The rest of the week and into the start of August is pretty grim. Swell drops off quickly. By Thursday the 30th, we’re down to 3ft, and by the weekend, it’s tiny waist-to-knee high stuff with poor conditions and zero scores. There’s a gap of several days where there’s simply nothing worth paddling out for.

It’s not until Tuesday the 4th of August that we get a glimmer of hope. Swell is still tiny at 1ft, but we get a brief window of glassy conditions with the wind going dead calm from the ENE. That’s a major positive for clean surf, but with such little energy (99 combined), you’re really just bobbing around. Wednesday the 5th morning might offer a similarly clean but tiny wave as a light E wind goes cross-off.

Looking further out into the second week, the pattern doesn't improve. Swell tries to bump up a little around the 8th and 9th of August, with SW swell around 2ft to 3ft and periods in the 14-16 second range, but it's all plagued by cross-onshore winds again. The long period might make it break a bit straight on the beach setup, but the point break could organize it.

Honestly, there are no true standouts in this 16-day window. The overall forecast quality is just too low. If you are desperate, keep an eye on the glassy mornings, but this is a time for the kites to have more fun than the paddle crew.

Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts.

Rusty.
