Table - best surf conditions forecast for El Anclote over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on offer for the coming weeks.
To be brutally honest, the next week and a half looks pretty flat out at El Anclote. We're staring down the barrel of a long, slow stretch with nothing to get excited about. From Saturday the 11th right through to around the 20th of July, you're looking at tiny little waves, mostly around 1ft to 2ft. Sure, there are a few windows where the wind is light or offshore, keeping it clean, but the energy is just pathetic. The combined swell energy is mostly in the double digits, hitting around 124 (moderate wave energy) on the first Saturday, but it's still just too small to bother with. It's the kind of surf you'd only paddle out for if you were desperate to get wet.
There is a small glimmer for the morning of Monday the 13th. The wind goes glassy, absolutely dead calm, and the water is a balmy 89°, which is a massive 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that's very unusual. But again, the swell is only 1ft, so it's a session for the longboard or a float only.
We finally get a pulse of sizeable swell around Tuesday the 21st of July. The morning is looking like the standout of the whole forecast. The swell jumps up to 6ft from the SSW with a period of 14 seconds, a proper groundswell. The combined energy rockets up to 1221 (strong to very strong wave energy), and the wind is glassy from the ENE. That's clean, lined-up, and meaty. It's a little over 5ft, so it might be too much for absolute beginners, but it's perfect for anyone with a bit of experience. The only downside is that the optimum swell direction is from the SW, so this is a bit off-angle, but the quality looks undeniable.
The following afternoon on the 22nd of July is also a cracker. The swell holds at 6ft from the WSW, and the wind goes offshore from the NW at 9 mph. This swell direction is far better, hitting the reef at a better angle. The energy is still high at 852 (strong to very strong wave energy), and with that offshore wind, it'll be clean and hollow. The morning of the 22nd is a bit messy with light cross-shore winds, but the afternoon is the pick of that day.
After that, it fades again. The 23rd and 24th of July offer some waist-high, clean waves with offshore winds, but nothing that will blow your mind. The final weekend of the 25th and 26th of July gets a bit of a bump in size, but the winds turn onshore and messy, so it's a skip.
So, to sum it up: the first week and a half is a write-off. Your two true standouts are the morning of Tuesday the 21st of July and the afternoon of Wednesday the 22nd of July. The 21st is glassy and powerful, the 22nd is better angled and just as clean. Don't bother before that.
Rusty.
