The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s cookin’ for El Anclote.
First thing you gotta know – the water’s running *much warmer than normal* right now, sitting at 89°F with an anomaly of 4°F. That’s a solid four degrees above average, so you’re gonna be surfing in a bathtub.
Honestly, the next week or so is pretty flat and average. We’ve got a long stretch of small, ordinary conditions. From Sunday the 23rd all the way through to the end of August, most sessions are just small, weak waves with poor surf quality. The swell is tiny, mostly 1ft to 1ft from the SW, with short periods. The combined energy is weak, ranging from 80 to 127 – barely a ripple. The wind is mostly light and cross or cross-off, but the waves just aren’t there. The afternoon on Tuesday the 25th turns glassy with N wind, but it’s still only 1ft – fun for a float, not a ride.
The first real standout comes on Tuesday, September 1st. The morning looks glassy with a light E breeze, and the swell bumps up to 3ft from the SSW, with a period of 13 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and it’s gonna have some shape. The energy is moderate (294). The afternoon holds clean too, with a light W cross-off. This is your best bet in the first week: clean, small but fun, and not too crowded.
Then, hold onto your board. The real action is on Monday, September 7th. We’re looking at 7ft to 8ft SW swell, with a 13-second period. That’s a solid, powerful groundswell. The combined energy is massive – 1526 in the morning, and 2118 in the afternoon. That’s very strong energy. The catch is the wind: light onshore and light cross-onshore, and there’s some light rain around. It’s going to be a bit lumpy, but for an experienced surfer, this is the biggest, most powerful swell of the whole 16-day window. The size is over 7ft, so this is for experts only. Beginners, stay out of the water that day.
So, the standout of the whole forecast is Tuesday, September 1st for quality, and Monday, September 7th for size and power. The 7th is a long way out, so keep an eye on the forecasts, but it’s lookin’ promising.
Rusty, signin’ off.
