Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk El Anclote for the next 16 days. To be straight with you, it’s mostly flat and forgettable. There are maybe two mornings that’ll make you smile, and the rest is small, weak, or messy. Let’s run through it.
First real chance is Thursday the 2nd of July. Swell is tiny at 2 to 2 feet from the SW, with a very long 15 to 16-second period. There’s some energy pushing through (combined energy 126 to 165). But Thursday morning has a light cross-shore wind and poor conditions. Afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore breeze, but it’s still ordinary. Not the one.
Friday the 3rd of July morning is dead glassy – zero wind. Swell sits at 2 feet from the SSW, 14-second period, combined energy 164. That flat-calm surface on a reef break like El Anclote makes it feel special, even if the waves are small. Crowds are possible sometimes, but for a slow, clean session, this is your best early call. The long period might make it a bit straight for some spots, but it’s still fun.
Saturday the 4th of July morning is glassy again, 2 feet from the SW, 14-second period. Worth a look if you missed Friday.
The real standout is Monday the 6th of July morning. Swell is still 2 feet from the SSW, 16-second period, but the combined energy jumps to 276 – the highest of the whole outlook. Glassy conditions and the report says “expect good surf conditions.” That’s the session to aim for. Tuesday the 7th of July afternoon also looks good, with 2 feet from the SW and a very long 18-second period (combined energy 324), though the extra-long gaps between sets mean you’ll wait a little longer for the good ones.
After that, from Wednesday the 8th of July into the second week, it’s mostly small and poor. Swell drops to 0.6 to 1 feet, combined energy often below 200 and sometimes below 100. There are clean mornings on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of July, but with waves barely 1 feet and combined energy around 80 to 97, it’s close to flat. Not worth chasing.
Water temp is running 88°F at the start, which is about 5°F warmer than average for July. That’s very unusual – it’s tropical bathwater.
Bottom line: Monday the 6th of July morning is the standout. Friday the 3rd of July morning is a close second for the glassy calm. Everything else is tiny, weak, or blown out. Beginners will dig the small waves; experts can sleep in.
Rusty.
