The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here for the next couple of weeks. We’re looking at a long stretch, but it’s a slow start. The only spot in the mix is Stone Islands Escollera, a point break that’s strictly for the advanced crew. The water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year.
The first few days are a total bust. From Monday the 3rd through to Friday the 7th of August, it’s nothing but poor surf with tiny, weak swell and winds that are all wrong. The combined energy is low, from 107 to 308 (moderate wave energy), and the swell is mostly under 2 feet. Not worth the drive.
Then we get a real window on Saturday morning, August 8th. The wind goes glassy, light offshore from the SW, and the swell hits 3 feet from the SW with a 16-second period. That’s long-period groundswell, which will wrap beautifully into this point. The combined energy is 578 (strong wave energy), and it’s described as glassy. This is the best of the whole run. The forecast says “expect very good surf conditions.” It’s a point break, so that long period will give you some proper walls. Just remember, it’s an advanced spot, and crowds are possible.
The rest of that week and into the next is a mess of cross-onshore winds and choppy conditions. The swell sticks around 2 to 4 feet, but the wind keeps ruining it. There’s another morning on Friday, August 14th, that looks promising again. The wind is glassy, the swell is 3 feet from the SW with a long 18-second period, and the combined energy is 525 (strong wave energy). Another clean window, but it’s a week out, so don’t bank on it yet.
To sum it up, Saturday the 8th is the standout. The morning session is the one to chase. The 14th is a decent backup, but it’s a long-range call. The rest of the time, the onshore winds and small swell keep things flat. Not a classic run, but when it cleans up, it’s magic.
