Stone Islands Escollera Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, listen up. It’s Rusty, and I’ve been staring at the charts for our little corner of the world, Stone Islands Escollera. It’s a point break, and usually, that means it’s got some shape to it, but the next couple of weeks? It’s gonna be a grind. We’ve got a window of opportunity, but mostly it’s about picking the absolute best moments.

The water is sitting at 89°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick winter suit at home.

The first real chance to get wet that’s worth talking about is on Friday, August 7th, in the afternoon. There’s a risk of thunderstorms, but look, the wind is going to be a light offshore breeze out of the north, and it’s bringing some clean conditions. We’re looking at a 3ft swell from the southwest with a period of 17 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, which means the waves will have some real push and shape, but you’ll be waiting a bit longer between sets. The combined energy is a solid 632 (moderate wave energy), which is decent for the size. That afternoon window is the standout for the whole forecast. It’s not huge, but it’ll be clean.

Saturday, August 8th, is a tale of two halves. The morning is a bit messy with a cross-onshore wind, but the swell is the biggest of the run at 3ft from the southwest, period of 16 seconds, energy at 578. The afternoon, however, turns glassy. Zero wind. The swell drops a touch to 3ft, but with that glassy surface, it’ll be a beautiful, slow day. That’s the other real standout.

Then Sunday, August 9th, in the morning, we get another glassy period with a 3ft southwest swell, period of 14 seconds, energy at 378. It’s clean, but the energy is a bit lower than the days before.

After that, things get rough. We have a long gap from Sunday afternoon all the way through to Saturday, August 16th, in the morning. That’s nearly a week of onshore winds, chop, and generally poor conditions. The swell sticks around, but the wind is just not cooperating.

Then, on Sunday, August 16th, in the morning, we get a reprieve. The wind goes glassy out of the northwest, and we’ve got a 3ft swell from the southwest, period of 15 seconds, energy at 283. It’s a smaller, clean window to end the stretch.

Remember, this is a point break, so it handles the long-period swell better than a beach. It’s an advanced spot, so don’t go paddling out if you’re not comfortable. It can get a crowd sometimes, and for good reason when it’s on.

The best of the best? Without a doubt, the Friday afternoon, August 7th session. The offshore wind and the long-period groundswell are going to line up perfectly. The Saturday afternoon, August 8th, with the glassy conditions, is a close second.
