Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, I’m gonna be straight with ya – the next couple of weeks at Misquamicut State Beach are looking like a real bust for paddle surfing. We’ve got a long, empty stretch ahead. The first time you should even bother looking at the water is the morning of Sunday, July 19th. Before that, from July 6th right through July 18th, it’s poor conditions day after day. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, the swell is tiny or short-period junk, and the wave energy is low to moderate – you’ll see numbers like 35, 76, up to 287 (combined swell energy), but none of it is any good. It’s gonna be choppy, lumpy, or blown out. Not worth a second look.
So, that one morning on July 19th. The wind goes glassy – dead calm, with a whisper from the WSW at 3 mph. The swell is a tiny 2ft from the south, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is weak at 60. The water temp is 67°, which is about normal for the season. For a beginner-friendly spot like this, that’s your best bet. It breaks very consistently here, but crowds are often a problem, so don’t expect solitude. The swell direction from the south isn’t the ideal SE for this break, but that glassy surface will smooth out the bumps. It’s not a standout day by any means, but if you’ve got the itch, that’s your only real window.
The 20th and 21st of July go right back to the same poor story. A blank run like this is pretty normal around here; sometimes the ocean just goes to sleep. Forecasts can change, so don’t give up hope entirely.
