The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and let’s talk about what’s happening at Misquamicut State Beach. Look, I’m just gonna shoot straight with you—this isn’t a week to get excited. The first solid week of this forecast window is a tough one for surfers. The waves are small, winds are messy, and the energy just isn’t there. The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is about average for this time of year, so at least that’s comfortable.
Friday the 21st kicks things off with a weak 3 ft swell from the ENE, but the period is super short at 5 seconds—barely any push. Wind is a strong 30 km/h out of the NE, making it cross-off, but the combined energy is only 67, so there’s really nothing to ride. It’s a washout. Friday afternoon gets a little bigger, 4 ft from the east, but still a 6-second period and 120 in energy. On paper that sounds okay, but it’s messy and the wind keeps it ugly.
Saturday the 22nd is a step down: 2 ft in the morning, 2 ft in the afternoon, both from the east. The combined energy drops into the 30s. The winds are lighter, but it’s still cross-off. Not worth paddling out.
Sunday the 23rd is even worse—tiny 1.0 ft from the southeast, with a risk of thunderstorms. The period is 8 seconds, but the energy is a pitiful 18 in the morning. The afternoon is 0.3 ft with a 12-second period, but the wind is cross-on, so it’s just choppy garbage.
Monday the 24th brings a little bump: 3 ft in the morning from the south, period 6 seconds, energy 117. That’s moderate energy, but the wind is cross-shore and creates chop. Not clean. Tuesday the 25th morning is 1.0 ft from the SE with a good 11-second period, but there’s almost no energy. The afternoon is 2 ft from the SW, period 6 seconds, energy 55. The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean, but the waves are small and weak. Honestly, this is surfable but very ordinary.
Wednesday the 26th through Friday the 28th morning is a dead zone. Tiny waves, poor conditions. But—Friday morning the 28th is one of the few bright spots. Only 2 ft from the SE with a 10-second period, but the wind is glassy—NNE at 5 km/h. The energy is 78, so it’s not strong, but it’s the best you’ll get. Clean, glassy conditions, but the size is tiny. Saturday the 29th morning has 2 ft from the SE with an 8-second period, wind light cross-off. The afternoon is also 2 ft but glassy. It’s small, but at least the surface is nice.
From Sunday the 30th onward, it’s a long stretch of poor surf. The swell is small, the wind is onshore or cross-on, and the energy is weak. The only real standout is that glassy Friday morning the 28th—if you’re desperate for a paddle and some clean little waves, that’s your window. But honestly, with the combined energy so low, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of the period.
The truth is, consistency is not bad here, but the quality is just missing. It’s a dry spell, and it’s going to stay that way for a while. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but don’t get your hopes up.
Rusty.
