Ocean City - 7th Street Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, this is Rusty, and I gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks here at Ocean City - 7th Street are looking flat as a pancake. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands, starting right now and stretching all the way through to the 20th of August with nothing but tiny, weak waves and poor surf conditions. The combined energy readings are barely getting into double digits, sitting at a measly 46 (Thursday morning), and they don't climb much higher for a long time. It’s going to be a frustrating wait.

The water temperature is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 76°.

Honestly, for the first week, from the 6th to the 13th, we're looking at ankle-to-knee-high slop, mostly from the south with a short, weak period of 5 to 7 seconds. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, which just adds to the chop. There’s a couple of windows where the wind goes offshore on the morning of the 12th and the 13th, but with swell heights at 1.0ft to 1ft, there’s just no energy to make it worthwhile. It’s a real bummer.

The period from the 14th to the 19th isn't any better. The swell stays tiny, rarely cracking 2ft, and the energy is stuck in the teens. The only real change is a few clean moments on the 15th and 17th with some cross-offshore wind, but again, the swell is just too small to surf. You’d be better off with a longboard or a kite, but even then, it’s a stretch.

Now, right at the very end of the forecast, we finally see a little pulse of life. On the 20th of August, things perk up a bit. The Thursday morning shows a clean 3ft from the south with a short 4-second period, and by the afternoon, the energy jumps to 102 (moderate) with a 4ft south swell. The wind is cross-shore, so it’ll be a bit chopped, but it’s the first real sign of wave energy in weeks. The south swell direction is right on the money for this spot.

Then, the morning of the 21st of August looks like the best bet of the whole 16 days. It’s an absolute glass-off with 2ft of long-period swell from the SSE. The period is a solid 6 seconds, and the energy is 51. The glassy conditions will make for clean, fun waves, even if it’s not huge. This is the one to circle on the calendar. After that, it goes back to cross-onshore junk in the afternoon.

So, to wrap it up, you’ve got nearly two weeks of near-nothing, then a small spike on the 20th, and a real standout glassy morning on the 21st. That Friday the 21st is your best shot for a fun, clean session, but keep your expectations in check. The rest of the time, it’s a waiting game for the next real swell.
