The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a quiet stretch for the Cape. We’ve got one break, Nauset Light Beach, and it’s a sandbar setup that’s exposed to the east. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and mostly blown out, so don’t get your hopes up for a proper session.
Right now, the water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing wild there.
The outlook starts with essentially nothing. From Wednesday, July 15th, right through to Monday, July 27th, the waves are tiny, often under 2ft, with poor conditions and scores that are basically zero. There’s a lot of cross-offshore wind, but the swell energy is pathetic – readings like 18 (weak) and 2 (weak) – it’s just not worth paddling out. You’ll see a few little bumps on the 20th and 21st with a sliver of SSE swell, but it’s gutless and the period is short. This is a long gap of flat, frustrated water.
The only real glimmer, and I mean the *only* one, comes on Tuesday, July 28th – that’s over a week away. Tuesday morning shows a bit of life: a 3ft South swell with a 9-second period, and the combined energy finally climbs to 147 (moderate). The wind is WSW at 15 km/h (9 mph), blowing offshore, which will keep the surface clean. The direction is from the south, which is not the optimum east for this spot, but it’s the best we’ve got. This is a beginner-friendly height, but with that short period, it’ll be a bit weak and crumbly. Crowds are a possibility here, but honestly, on a day like this, you’ll have it mostly to yourself. It’s not a standout by any stretch, just a “don’t leave your board in the car” kind of morning.
The rest of the week after that fades back to small, weak leftovers. The afternoon of the 28th turns cross-off and the energy drops. The 29th and 30th are back to tiny, poor surf.
If you’re determined, bring a longboard for the 28th morning. Otherwise, the setup is so small and weak for so long that it’s looking more like a kiteboarding week for the Cape. The forecasts can change, but this blank run is pretty normal for this area in summer.
Rusty.
