Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a long, hard look at what the next couple of weeks have in store. I gotta be straight with you – the forecast for Nauset Light Beach is a tough one to read. We’re looking at a solid 16-day stretch, but honestly, there’s nothing that lights a fire under my wetsuit. The whole period is just one long stretch of poor surf conditions. Not a single recommendation pops out, which is a real bummer if you’re itching to paddle out.
The water temperature right now is sitting at 67°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s about the only bright spot.
Let's start at the beginning. This Sunday morning, the 5th, you’ve got a tiny 0.7ft swell from the ESE with a short 8-second period. The energy is basically non-existent, and a light cross-shore breeze is making things bumpy. It’s just not doing anything. This flat, washed-out pattern continues straight through Monday and Tuesday, with the wind building and swinging onshore. By Tuesday morning, we see a bit of a pulse – 4ft from the east at 6 seconds – but it’s coming with a strong onshore breeze, making it a total mess. Tuesday afternoon pushes that swell to 5ft, but again, that strong onshore wind kills any chance of a decent wave.
The middle of the week doesn't offer any relief. Wednesday and Thursday see the swell drop back down, and while we get some cleaner conditions with cross-offshore breezes, the waves stay tiny and weak. Friday and Saturday are more of the same – small, weak, and either bumpy or just plain flat.
Moving into the second week, it’s the same sad story. From the 12th all the way through to the 20th of July, Nauset Light Beach stays stubbornly flat and small. The energy levels are pitiful, and the swell heights rarely crack 2ft. Even the rare moment of clean, glassy conditions can’t save it when there’s no push in the water. The windows of clean surf on the 15th, 16th, and 17th are all with swells so small it’s barely a ripple.
So, what’s the takeaway? For the next 16 days, Nauset Light Beach is a write-off. The entire run is blank. You’re better off finding a hobby on dry land because the ocean just isn't cooperating. Forecasts can change, and the way things are going, it has to get better eventually, but for now, hang up the board.
Rusty.
