The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the Cape.
Honestly, it’s gonna be a pretty grim stretch at Nauset Light Beach. We’re looking at a long, quiet wave drought. For the first week and a half, there’s nothing but scraps. From Saturday the 18th right through to the morning of Wednesday the 22nd, it’s a total write-off. The swell is tiny, the wind is messy, and you’ll be floating on a lake. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so at least the water feels normal even if the waves don’t.
Then, on Wednesday the 22nd, we get a sudden spike – a 7ft southerly swell rolls in with a moderate 9-second period. The combined energy hits 708 (moderate). But here’s the catch: the file says it’s too big for this break. With that kind of size and the wind a cross-off at 35 km/h, it’s going to be a washing machine. This is a sandbar setup, and for a spot that’s “fairly consistent” but still a beginner-friendly break, 7ft is a lot of water to handle. It’s really only for the experienced crew, and even then, the quality is questionable.
The rest of the run after that? More of the same. Small, weak, and choppy. We get a bit of a glassy morning on the 27th, but the swell is still below 3ft and from the north-northeast, which isn’t the optimum east direction. It’s pretty hopeless.
There is simply no standout session here. No day where the stars align for a classic Cape surf. The only day with any real size is the 22nd, and that’s a mess. Don’t bother paddling out until the forecasts change. This is a blank run.
Rusty.
