The Lowdown
Alright, let's talk about Nauset Light Beach (United States). This is a tricky stretch for the next couple of weeks. The water's running about a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, 71°, so that's a nice little bonus if you're paddling out.
To be straight with you, the whole 16-day window looks pretty quiet. There’s a big gap right at the start – nothing worth paddling for on Monday the 17th or Tuesday the 18th. The swell is tiny, the wind is messy, and it’s just one of those flat spells. Things don't really change much for a while. We’ve got a long stretch of days with wave heights barely cracking 1 ft and combined energy sitting in the weak to low range (often under 40). The wind does go offshore or cross-off a few times, like Thursday morning the 20th with a light SW breeze, and later on Monday the 24th with a clean NW offshore, but the swell just isn't there to back it up.
The only real standout comes right at the end. On the morning of Friday, August 28th, we see a pulse of energy. The swell bumps up to 3 ft from the ESE with a 14-second period (that’s a proper groundswell), and the combined energy hits 281, which is moderate. That’s the most interesting day of the whole outlook. Keep in mind, that long period can make a beach break like Nauset a bit fat and sectiony, but with the right sandbar it could offer some clean walls. The wind is onshore from the ENE at 16 mph, though, so it won't be perfect. Still, it’s the only window with any real grunt.
The rest of the second week is a mix of tiny windswell and onshore winds, with the occasional clean morning. The morning of Sunday the 30th looks clean with a light SW breeze, but the swell is only 2 ft. It’s a flat spell, pure and simple.
This is a classic case of a blank run for the area. There’s just not enough swell to get excited about. If you’re desperate, the 28th is your best bet, but keep your expectations low.
