Table - best surf conditions forecast for Nauset Light Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, folks. Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' at Nauset Light Beach.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you: it’s a tough start. For the first week and a half, we’re looking at a proper drought. From this Saturday the 11th all the way through to Sunday the 19th, it's a whole lot of nothing. Tiny, weak little slop with combined wave energy barely scraping double digits – we're talking readings like 18, 20, even down to 3 at one point. That's barely a ripple. The wind's all over the shop, mostly onshore or cross, and the swell's just not showing up. You’d be better off finding a sandbar on a flat lake. There’s really nothing to get excited about, so save your wax and your energy.
Now, hold on to your boards, because things finally flip the script on Monday the 20th. That morning we see a pulse of swell jump up to 6ft from the ENE, with a combined energy of 332 – that’s a proper jump in energy. The wind is gentle and cross-shore, which would normally be a dream. But here’s the kicker: that 6ft swell, and the 6ft in the afternoon, is predicted to be simply too big for this sandbar setup. It’s not for the faint of heart, and even then, the break might just close out. This is expert territory only. With short, choppy 7 to 8 second periods, it’s going to be a bit of a wall of whitewater. Honestly, with that much energy and a beach break, this Monday window might be more interesting for kite surfers than for paddle surfers. It’s the only real pulse of size in the entire 16-day window, so if you're a nutter with a big board and a bigger set of lungs, that's your best – and maybe only – shot.
After that brief burst, it drops right back down. Tuesday the 21st through to the end of the run sees us back in ankle-biters, with onshore winds and energy readings that are nowhere near what we saw on Monday. The 26th of July looks nasty with heavy rain and a howling near gale from the north at 31 mph. Water temp is sitting at about 65°F, which is dead average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
In short, look to Monday the 20th. That’s the one standout, but only for the brave and the experienced. The rest of the fortnight is a flat spell with a side of wind. Keep an eye on it though, because forecasts can change, and it can't stay this bad forever.
Tight lines,
Rusty.
