Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch ahead for surf at Nauset Light Beach. There’s a big ol’ gap of nothing special on the cards, so let’s walk through it.
Right from the start, Sunday 5th July, it's flat and messy. We’ve got a tiny 0.7ft swell coming out of the ESE with a short period of 8 seconds, and the wind is cross-on at 6 mph. The combined energy is a weak 9 (low number, no push). Water temp is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Not that it matters much, because the surf is poor. That carries on through Monday and Tuesday – more rain, more wind, and the swell barely twitches. By Tuesday morning the 7th, the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-on from the ESE, and that bumpy 5ft swell is just lumpy, ugly stuff. This is beach-break, so that kind of wind and chop is more for kite surfers than paddle surfers.
Wednesday 8th July afternoon offers a little glimmer – the wind drops to a light 3 mph cross-on from the north, and we see that combined energy jump to 202 (moderate energy) with a 3ft swell from the ENE. It’s still only rated marginal at best, but with the wind that light, the surface could clean up for a few tiny ones. But honestly, it’s not worth getting excited about.
From Thursday 9th through to Saturday 19th July, it’s a real desert. Every day is poor surf conditions. The swell stays below 3ft, with periods mostly short, and the wind is usually cross-off or cross-on, just not aligning. There’s a 10-day stretch here with nothing rideable. Even when we get clean wind, the swell is too small to push anything.
Finally, on Sunday 19th July, we get a bit of life. The afternoon shows a 3ft S swell with a period of 9 seconds and combined energy of 168 (moderate). The wind is light, cross-off from the south at only 6 mph. That’s actually clean. It’s still only ordinary surfable waves, but it’s the best we’ve seen in nearly two weeks. Monday 20th holds up a little – 2ft from the SSE, period of 9 seconds, and a light offshore wind from the WSW at 12 mph. Clean again, but small. For beginners, the 3ft swell on Sunday is small enough to be okay, but the quality is just so-so.
So, the standout? I’d put my money on Sunday 19th July afternoon. That’s the only time the numbers line up for any kind of session – clean, light wind, and a modest bump of 3ft S swell. It’s still ordinary, but beggars can’t be choosers. Don’t expect any magic; just get a few if you’re desperate.
Rusty out.
