Alright, this is Rusty. Let's take a look at what we've got for Nauset Light Beach.
Honestly, for the first two weeks or so, I'm not getting too excited. We're looking at a long stretch of tiny surf, with wave heights mostly hanging around 0.7ft to 2ft. The energy is real weak too, with combined swell energy values barely getting into double digits for the first week. The water temp is running at 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the start of July, but that's about the only thing that's above average right now. There's just not enough push to make it worth paddling out.
We do see a bit of a spike starting Tuesday the 7th of July. By Tuesday morning the swell bumps up to 4ft from the E, but the period is a short 6 seconds, so it's not going to have any real power. The wind is howling onshore at 12 mph with light rain, so it'll be a messy one. That energy climbs through Tuesday afternoon (194) and into Wednesday morning (323), with the swell hitting 5ft from the ESE on Wednesday the 8th. But look at that wind reading: a strong 16 mph cross-onshore from the NNE. That’s going to chop it right up. This is not a day for a beginner – anything over 5ft starts to get challenging – and with that wind, even for experts, it’s going to be a battle. The afternoon drops to a cleaner 3ft but onshore, so still not great.
The best shot in this whole span comes on Thursday the 16th of July. By the afternoon, we’ve got a moderate 4ft swell from the S, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy hits a solid 239, so there’s some proper wave energy in the water (moderate wave energy). The wind is light from the SE at 6 mph, so it’s just a light cross-shore with a few ripples. It’s still a sandbar break which is never perfect with groundswell, but this is the only day that scores anything above zero. Even then, it’s only a 1 out of 10, so it’s marginal. The crowd factor says it gets busy "sometimes," so you might have some company, but for this small window, that’s your best bet.
Other than that, we've got clean, low-energy days on the 9th, 10th, 13th, and 15th of July, but it's ankle-snappers at best. There's a gap of pretty much nothing from the 3rd until the 7th, and then another dry spell from the 10th right through the 15th.
So to be straight with you: Nauset Light Beach is looking pretty flat for the foreseeable future. Thursday the 16th of July is the only day that even has a pulse. Keep an eye on it, but don't get your hopes up.
Stay salty.
Rusty.
