The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee and sit down for this one. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it for you, mate. The forecast for Egypt Beach is a long, flat stretch of nothing much. Honestly, it’s a tough read.
If you’re looking for waves, you’re looking at a blank run for the next couple of weeks. The water temp is sitting right around 68°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so you can’t even blame it on a weird cold snap. The swell just isn't there.
The first few days are a write-off. From Wednesday the 19th right through the weekend, the surf is tiny, weak, and gutless. We’re talking ankle-snappers at best, with swell heights barely hitting 1 ft to 1 ft. The wind is all over the place, but even on the rare glassy morning, like Thursday the 20th morning, there’s just no energy in the water to work with. The combined energy reading is a pathetic 12 (moderate energy is typically 100-999), so you know it’s flat.
You’ll see a few more promising days pop up around the end of August and into September. Around Saturday the 29th of August, the swell actually tries to build, with a 5 ft ENE swell (moderate energy of 149) and a 4 ft ENE swell on Sunday the 30th (moderate energy of 188). But don’t get excited. The wind is on it, straight from the east or northeast, making it cross-onshore and choppy. The wave quality is still rated as “poor surf conditions” across the board. The swell period is a short 6-7 seconds, so it’s just messy, wind-affected slop.
For an exposed beach break like this, that ENE wind is a killer. It just blows the top off any chance of a clean wave. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a dud. There’s no standout day, no hidden gem session. The only consistent thing is the inconsistency. For the area, this kind of blank run happens, but it still stings. If you’re desperate, you might find something to bodysurf, but for a proper surf, you’re better off waiting for a change in the forecast.
This is Rusty, signing off. Better luck next time.
