The Lowdown
Alright, I’ll be straight with you—this is a tough one. The whole 16-day window doesn’t offer much to get excited about. Surfless spells are the norm here when the pattern locks in like this. We’re looking at Egypt Beach (Massachusetts), and it’s a beginner-friendly, consistent spot, but the swell just isn't showing up in any meaningful way for most of the run.
Right now, Saturday the 22nd, we’ve got a weak 3ft swell from the east with a short period of just 5 seconds, combined energy is a measly 58. Cross-on wind from the NNE at 15 mph is putting a chop on it, so the water temp is about average for this time of year. It’s a write-off—poor surf.
That sets the tone. From Saturday through to Tuesday morning on the 2nd of September, it’s a long, flat stretch. We’re talking over a week of tiny waves, mostly under 2ft, with combined energy barely hitting double digits. Winds are a mixed bag—some clean moments with offshore or glassy conditions, like Thursday morning the 27th (S 3 mph, glassy) or Tuesday afternoon the 25th (W 9 mph offshore, clean)—but there’s no swell to work with. The wave heights are just 0.5ft to 2ft. It’s frustrating.
Then, on Wednesday morning the 2nd of September, there’s a little spike. The swell jumps to 4ft from the NNE, period only 6 seconds, but the combined energy is a moderate 143. Offshore wind from the WNW at 6 mph keeps things clean. It’s surfable, but very ordinary—the short period means it’ll be weak and wonky, more of a novelty than a session. Still, it’s the best on offer in this entire outlook, so if you’re desperate, that’s your window.
After that, it drops right back. Thursday and Friday are tiny again, and by Sunday the 6th of September, there’s a pulse of 6ft from the NNE, but with a 15 mph cross-on wind and combined energy of 471, it’s a choppy mess. For a beach break like this, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
Honestly, ride this one out at home. The best chance of a paddle is that Wednesday morning on the 2nd, but keep the hopes low.
