The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s cooking at Praia Brava.

We’ve got a slow start, no doubt. Friday the 24th is weak and messy – small waves, bad wind. Not worth the drive. The good stuff starts to show up on Saturday.

### The Best of the Bunch

Saturday morning, July 25th is the standout. Clean 1.5m swell from the south, 10-second period, and the wind is dead glassy – zero breeze. The combined energy is strong at 494. This is a smooth, fun morning. The water temp is about normal for this time of year, so no surprises. Praia Brava is a beginner-friendly break, and this size is perfect for it.

Sunday morning, July 26th is also a good one. Swell eases to 1.0m but the period goes out to a long 14 seconds, bringing real shape and power. Energy is high at 625. Wind is glassy again, light from the ENE. It’ll be clean, but the long period could make the waves a bit more lined up and less peaky at this beach.

### The Rough Patch

From Sunday afternoon through the end of July, the wind is a mess. Strong cross-shore winds, lumpy chop, and short-period junk. No quality surf. There’s a brief clean window on Monday morning, July 27th, but the swell is only 0.7m and the energy is weak at 81 – not enough to get you out of bed.

### The Second Week – A Faint Hope

After a long dry spell, we get a couple of interesting days. Sunday morning, August 2nd sees a 1.1m south swell with a very long 13-second period. Energy is 705, and the wind is clean cross-off. The long period might make it a bit straight for a beach break, but it’s the best looking day in the second week.

Monday morning, August 3rd is similar – 1.1m from the south, 14-second period, energy of 870, and clean cross-off wind. Both of these are a week and a half out, so keep an eye on them, but they’re promising.

### The End

After that, the wind turns on again and the swell fades. The last few days are small, choppy, and not much fun.

So, your best bet is Saturday morning, July 25th, with Sunday morning, July 26th as a solid backup. The rest is a waiting game, with a couple of maybes in the first week of August.

Rusty.

Short Range Forecast

Some drizzle, heaviest during Fri night. Warm (max 21°C on Thu night, min 19°C on Fri night). Wind will be generally light.

Days 5-7 Weather Summary

Mostly dry. Warm (max 29°C on Wed morning, min 20°C on Sun night). Winds increasing (light winds from the ENE on Mon morning, strong winds from the NE by Tue afternoon).
