The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Praia Brava’s got lined up in the next couple of weeks.

Right out of the gate, Monday the 7th is dead flat with tiny 1ft waves and no energy — don’t even bother. Water temp’s about 73°, pretty average for this time of year.

Tuesday the 8th wakes up with a 5ft south swell, combined energy moderate at 861, period 10 seconds, but the wind’s blowing cross at 16 mph, so it’s lumpy. Not a cracker, but it’s the first real size. Wednesday the 9th afternoon turns glassy with 5ft from the ENE, short 7-second period, combined energy of 468 — clean and surfable, a decent little window.

Thursday the 10th morning offers a long-period 4ft south swell at 12 seconds, clean offshore flow, and 725 combined energy. That’s a groomed option for the experienced crew.

The true standout is Monday the 21st morning. We see a solid 7ft ENE swell, glassy calm winds, and strong combined energy at 630. Water’s still seasonal. That’s going to be clean and powerful — a bit much for beginners, but for anyone with some chops, it’s the pick of the forecast.

Saturday the 19th afternoon kicks up a big 8ft south swell with a very long 14-second period and massive combined energy of 2014, but the wind’s a messy cross at 22 mph. That’s more of a kite-surf day than a smooth paddle session.

There’s a long dry spell from the 12th through the 20th, mostly marginal or poor. Stick with Monday the 21st morning — that’s your best shot.

Rusty.

Short Range Forecast

Heavy rain (total 33mm), heaviest during Mon afternoon. Warm (max 23°C on Wed morning, min 16°C on Mon afternoon). Winds increasing (calm on Mon afternoon, fresh winds from the NE by Tue night).

Days 4-6 Weather Summary

Light rain (total 9mm), mostly falling on Thu afternoon. Warm (max 29°C on Fri afternoon, min 20°C on Sat afternoon). Mainly strong winds.
