The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's shaping up for Praia Brava over the next couple of weeks.

First off, the outlook isn't a blank. There’s a pulse of energy coming through, but you’ll have to be patient through a messy start. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.

The first session worth paddling out for is on Tuesday, the 15th of September. Tuesday afternoon looks alright with a clean 3ft swell from the S, a period of 10 seconds, and offshore wind from the SSW. The combined energy is moderate (314), but with those clean, offshore conditions, you’ll find some workable lines.

The real standout, though, is Thursday the 17th. This is the pick of the run. We get a solid 5ft of S swell Thursday morning with light cross-offshore winds from the ESE, keeping things clean. The combined swell energy jumps to a strong 652, and that S direction is lining up perfectly with what this exposed break likes. This isn't one for beginners though, at that size it's for the experienced crew.

Friday and the weekend through to Monday the 21st get blown out by strong cross-onshore winds, making the surf poor and choppy. But then Monday afternoon shows real promise again. After a morning of messy 7ft surf from the E, the wind swings offshore from the S, cleaning up a 6ft E swell (504 energy). That’s a powerful wave, and the clean conditions will be a major positive. Still, at over 6ft, this is expert territory.

Tuesday the 22nd has a killer window. Tuesday morning is glassy with a 5ft E swell (299 energy), and Tuesday afternoon stays clean with offshore winds and 4ft E swell (221 energy).

After that, from Wednesday the 23rd through the end of the month, it gets patchy again. There are a few clean windows, like Saturday afternoon the 26th with clean 4ft ENE swell (323 energy), and a glassy but small 2ft ENE swell on Monday morning the 28th. The 29th is back to messy cross-onshore. So grab the Thursday the 17th window as the main event, and keep an eye on Monday the 21st afternoon for a solid backup.

Rusty.
