The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here, with a look at what's coming up at Riozinho over the next couple of weeks. To be honest, it's a slow start, and we're looking at a proper dry spell before anything really gets going.
The first bit of action worth paddling out for isn't until the morning of Sunday, the 2nd of August. We've got a 3 ft easterly swell with a short period, and the great news is clean conditions with a light cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is moderate at 120. It's not a world-beater, but after the wait, it'll feel good to get wet.
The real standout, the one that's got me buzzing, is Monday the 10th of August. The morning is looking minty. The swell jumps to 5 ft from the SSE with a solid 13-second period, which is proper groundswell. The energy is very strong (738), and the wind is light and offshore from the SW. That's a recipe for clean, lined-up waves at this break. This is the session to circle on the calendar.
We also have a couple of other moments that look promising. Tuesday the 4th of August sees a 2 ft glassy morning with a decent 12-second period, offering some clean little waves. Then on Friday the 7th of August, the morning brings a 4 ft swell with glassy conditions, and the energy is building (278). Not a standout, but a solid session.
Later on, Wednesday the 12th of August has a 6 ft swell from the NE with glassy conditions and strong energy (430), but the period is short at 7 seconds. It's a good option for the second week, but that Monday the 10th is the one to chase.
The water temperature is sitting at 66°, which is about average for the time of year, nothing to worry about.
So, get through this quiet start, and keep your eyes on Monday the 10th of August. That's the one.
Rusty.
