G’day, Rusty here. Let’s keep it real: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat and frustrating around here. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing worthwhile on the cards, with a few small pulses that might get the heart beating but won’t really deliver. The good news is that there are a couple of moments that could be worth a paddle, but you’ll need to be patient and pick your windows carefully.

The first real chance of anything comes on Sunday the 10th of August. The swell is still small, around 3ft, coming from the south with a decent 14-second period. The wind is offshore from the SSW, which is a big plus – it’ll keep the surface clean. But honestly, it’s still pretty ordinary. The energy is moderate (286 in the morning, dropping to 264 in the afternoon), but it’s just not enough to get excited about. It’s surfable, but you won’t be bragging about it.

Now, the one standout in this whole window is Tuesday the 11th of August, first thing in the morning. This is where it gets interesting. We’ve got a proper pulse of south swell pushing in at 5ft, with a 12-second period. The energy jumps right up to 1255, which is strong – you’ll feel that push. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the SSW, so conditions should be pretty clean. This is the best on offer by a long shot. It’s not massive, but it’s got some punch. If you’re intermediate, this is your window. It’s not a day for beginners – that 5ft is pushing it – but for the rest of us, it’s worth getting wet. The direction is from the south, which is a bit east of the optimum for this spot, but it should still work.

After that, it fades back down. The rest of the second week is mostly small, with maybe some waist-high leftovers and onshore winds. There’s a mention of Tuesday the 11th afternoon dropping back to 4ft, and then it’s all downhill from there. The long-period south swell on Thursday the 13th morning, at 4ft, might be okay, but it’s not a standout. The wind is light and offshore, but the energy is only moderate (338). It’s just not consistent enough.

One thing to note: this break is called Canasvieiras, and it’s a sandbar setup. It's a sheltered, very sheltered spot, so it doesn't need a huge swell to work, but it also means it doesn't get the full brunt of the ocean’s power. The water temperature is sitting at 65°, which is about normal for this time of year – nothing weird there.

There’s a big gap with nothing from the 13th onwards. The surf is tiny, the wind is messy, and it’s just not worth your time. The only other tiny blip is Sunday the 9th afternoon, but the wind is howling at 19 mph from the south, which is going to make it a mess even if the swell is 3ft. That’s more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle-surfing day.

So, bottom line: if you can get out on the morning of Tuesday the 11th, go for it. That’s the pick of the fortnight. The rest is a waiting game.
