Table - best surf conditions forecast for Guaratuba over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for us.
First up, the water is running much warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 70°F. That’s a solid 5°F above average, so you can definitely leave the thick steamer at home.
The overall pattern for the next two weeks is pretty ordinary. We’ve got a long stretch of small, inconsistent swell with less-than-ideal wind. There are a few windows where things clean up, but nothing that’s going to blow your mind. The first real action doesn't kick off until Tuesday the 25th, and even then it’s marginal.
Tuesday morning, August 25th, is the first real standout. Guaratuba will see a 2ft swell from the SE with a period of 13 seconds. The energy is modest, at 110, but the key here is the glassy, glassy conditions. The wind is dead calm from the SW, making for a clean, smooth surface. This is your best bet for a quiet, easy-going session. It’s a beginner-friendly point break, and the waves will be small but clean.
Wednesday morning, August 26th, is another highlight. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the SE with a period of 16 seconds, pushing the energy up to 344. That’s a long-period groundswell, which will wrap nicely around the point. Again, we’re looking at glassy conditions with a slight WSW wind, so the surface will be clean. The forecast says "expect good surf conditions," which is about as good as it gets in this window. For a small point break, the long period means the waves will have a bit more push and shape, but the sets will be a little slower.
The rest of the forecast is a mixed bag of wind-affected, cross-onshore slop. There’s a chance of a clean session on the morning of Saturday, August 30th, with a 3ft ESE swell and a 9-second period, plus a clean cross-offshore wind from the SW. The energy is 160, so it’s alright, but it’s still a very ordinary day overall.
Looking further out, the second week is even more unreliable. There’s a moment on the morning of Wednesday, September 2nd, with a glassy 2ft swell from the SE and a period of 12 seconds, but the energy is only 155. It’s clean, but very small. The morning of Friday, September 4th, also offers a clean look with a 3ft SE swell, but again, the overall quality is rated as "very ordinary."
Honestly, mate, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The best advice is to keep your eyes on Wednesday morning, August 26th. That’s your true standout with the cleanest conditions and the best-quality swell. For the rest of the time, it’s a skatepark or a paddleboard kind of fortnight.
Rusty.
