Right then, let’s have a look at what we’ve got for the next couple of weeks. The water temperature is 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want an extra layer.
The first few days are a bit of a slow starter, to be honest. Monday the 6th is a write-off with poor surf and a southeasterly swell around 3 ft. By Tuesday morning the 7th, things start to look up. We get a clean 4 ft swell from the SE with a period of 10 seconds and a light offshore breeze from the WSW. It’s not huge, but the conditions are clean, and the combined energy is moderate at (261). That morning is your first real chance for a paddle.
Tuesday afternoon is even better – the wind goes glassy with 3 ft surf and it’s clean. That’s a nice window.
Wednesday the 8th is smaller, dropping to 3 ft, but the morning is clean with a cross-off breeze. It’s surfable, but nothing to write home about.
Thursday the 9th morning is clean with a 2 ft swell, but the period is a touch longer at 11 seconds. It’s ordinary but rideable. The afternoon gets messy with onshore wind.
Friday the 10th morning has offshore wind and 2 ft surf – weak energy (139). It’s clean but tiny.
Now, Saturday the 11th morning brings a jump in size to 4 ft from the ESE with a longer 13-second period. The combined energy is strong at (754), but there’s a cross breeze and the report calls it marginal. It’s worth a look if you’re keen, but it’s not perfect.
Sunday the 12th shapes up nicely. The morning has glassy conditions and 3 ft swell, and the afternoon goes glassy with 3 ft and even better energy at (516). That afternoon is a standout – clean, glassy, and the swell has decent period at 13 seconds. This is your best bet of the week.
Monday the 13th is a no-go. The swell jumps to 5 ft with strong 16 mph WSW winds. The combined energy is (414), but with that wind, it’s poor conditions.
Tuesday the 14th morning is clean again with a 3 ft swell and a cross-off breeze, and the afternoon goes glassy with 2 ft.
After that, the surf gets smaller and more ordinary through to the 15th and 16th. On Thursday the 16th morning, we see a spike to 6 ft from the SE, but the period is short at 7 seconds. It’s clean, but that short period will make it junky. That size is getting a bit much for beginners.
The rest of the run into the third week is mostly small stuff – 2 ft to 3 ft – with a mix of glassy and clean conditions. There are a couple of longer-period swells on the 21st with 14-second period, but at 2 ft, it’s tiny and weak.
Remember, this spot (Quilombo Reef) is a reef break that is inconsistent, so don’t expect it to be pumping every day. The best on offer is Sunday the 12th afternoon – glassy, clean, and a decent groundswell. That’s the one to aim for.
