The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks at Praia da Macumba. The early stretch is pretty much a bust – flat, messy, and not worth your time. We’re looking at several days of tiny, junky surf from Wednesday through to Tuesday, with winds shifting all over the place. It’s a dead zone, so don’t bother suiting up unless you’re keen for a paddle with no reward.

Things start to turn around on Thursday the 24th, when a decent south swell arrives, pushing waves up to around 6 feet. There’s still a bit of cross-onshore breeze, so it’s not perfect, but at least there’s something to ride. By Friday morning the 25th, the wind swings offshore and it cleans right up – 6 feet of south swell, nice lines, and a proper push. That’s a great session for anyone with a bit of experience. Water temp is around 73°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so a spring suit will do the trick.

Saturday and Sunday ease off, but Sunday morning the 27th brings a fun, punchy 5-foot southwest swell with clean offshore winds. Definitely worth a look. Then Monday the 28th steps it up again – 6 feet of south swell, light offshore, and decent shape. That’s a solid session.

Now, the real standout lands on Tuesday the 30th. That’s when a solid 8-foot south swell rolls in, with light offshore winds and a long 13-second period. The wave energy is massive – well over 2000 units – and it’s handling the break beautifully. This is big, powerful, expert-only stuff. Clean, lined-up waves, and the kind of session you’ll be talking about for a while. If you’ve got the skills, this is the one to circle on the calendar.

After that, Thursday the 1st still has some push – around 6 feet of southwest swell, light winds, and a 14-second period. It’s not quite as flawless as Tuesday, but still a good session.

One thing to keep in mind: with those long periods (over 11 seconds), these are true groundswells, and at a beach break like this, they can sometimes close out a bit. Keep an eye on the tide, but the standout mornings are definitely Friday the 25th and Tuesday the 30th. That Tuesday is the big one – don’t miss it.

Crowds are a real factor here – they’re often busy, especially when the swell’s up and winds are light. Expect some company on the good days, but the quality should make it worthwhile.

So, to sum it up: skip the first few days, hit Friday the 25th for a clean, solid session, and absolutely don’t miss Tuesday the 30th – that’s the standout of the whole window. The rest is rideable, but nothing else comes close.

Stay stoked, and I’ll see you out there.
