The Lowdown

Hey, Rusty here. Let's break down what’s coming for Laje Rasa.

Right out of the gate, it’s a rough stretch. You’re looking at a solid week with absolutely nothing worth getting wet for until the morning of Thursday, August 6th. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the ocean is just flat or junk.

That Thursday morning, August 6th, is your real target. We’ve got a 5ft swell from the ENE arriving under a glassy, dead-calm wind. That’s as clean as it gets. The wave energy is moderate at 463 – enough to give the reef some life. It breaks inconsistently here, so expect some lulls, but the waves you do get will be clean and lined up. The water temp is about 72°, so dead average for the season.

Following that, the morning of Sunday, August 9th, is another standout. You’ll see a 6ft ENE swell with a clean cross-off breeze from the SSW. The energy at 419 is solid, and with those clean conditions, the shape should be there for a good session.

Then, Monday morning, August 10th, brings a 5ft ENE swell with a clean offshore wind out of the WSW. That wind direction is a dream for this spot, and the wave energy of 399 backs up the quality. It’s inconsistent, so you’ll be waiting for sets, but the ones that come through will be worth the paddle.

Later, on Wednesday afternoon, August 12th, a big, long-period southerly swell rolls in – 6ft at 15 seconds – with a massive 1587 energy reading. That’s serious grunt, but the cross-onshore wind will mess up the face. It’s going to look like it should be incredible, but the wind will keep it from being the session it could be.

So, the first week is a bust. You’re holding out for the 6th of August, then the 9th and 10th for the cleanest windows. The big swell late in the run is there, but the wind is the enemy.

Rusty.
