Table - best surf conditions forecast for Figuera over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s have a look at what Figuera’s got cookin’ for us. It’s a bit of a slow burner, but there’s a proper little window of clean, lined-up surf in the middle of the week, and then a serious groundswell event late in the month that’s got me perked up.
Water temp’s sittin’ at a balmy 73° which is pretty much dead average for this time of year, so no need to dig out the thick suit just yet.
First up, the early days are looking average at best. Saturday the 11th starts off poor, but that afternoon brings a glimmer with a 4ft SE swell, 13-second period and a light cross-off breeze. There’s moderate wave energy (454) and the surf quality comes up clean. It’s just enough to get a short board wet, but it’s nothing to write home about.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are write-offs, plain and simple. Onshore winds and messy conditions with a building, but lumpy, SSW windswell. By Monday afternoon, that swell jumps to 7ft, but with strong onshore wind, it’s just a washing machine. That’s 1213 units of energy, all wasted.
Now, here’s where we get our first standout. Wednesday the 15th. Look at the morning: 6ft of SSE swell, 11-second period, and light offshore winds from the NE. It’s clean, the combined energy is solid at 965, and the wind’s coming straight out of the east by the afternoon, still offshore. For Figuera, this is the sweet spot of the first week. Not too big, not too small, and the wind’s on your side. Crowds can turn up here sometimes, but on a Wednesday you might just get a few waves to yourself.
Thursday the 16th holds similar size (5–6ft SE) but the wind cranks up to a fresh 22 mph offshore. It’ll be clean but lumpy and hard to paddle into – more of a session for the experienced lot.
After that, the second week sees a real drop-off. Surf gets tiny from the 18th through to the 23rd, with energy readings down in the double digits. Nothing doing.
Then, hold onto your board. Friday the 24th of July – this is the real standout of the whole outlook. A 5ft SSW groundswell rolling in with a 16-second period, and it’s combined with a second swell bringing the total energy to 1173. The wind is light and cross-off from the ESE. That is proper deep-water juice, and at Figuera those long-period SSW swells wrap in nicely. This one’s for experienced surfers only; that period is so long it’ll be plenty powerful, and with the swell being over 5ft it’s not a beginner’s game. The morning session is the one to aim for.
Saturday the 25th drops a little in size and energy but still has some clean lines, and Sunday the 26th finishes the run with a moderate offshore and 4ft S swell. Not the peak of the run, but a nice way to wrap it up.
So to sum it up: Wednesday the 15th is your clean, fun-sized standout for the intermediate crew, and Friday the 24th is the freight-train day for the experts. Get on it.
Rusty.
