The Lowdown
Right, let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Figuera. This is a consistent, exposed S-facing break that’s gonna see a real mix of conditions over the next couple of weeks.
We kick off Saturday, 22 August, but it’s a bit of a write-off. The morning is a cross-on mess with a short-period 5-foot swell and weak energy (411). The afternoon bumps up to 8 feet but it’s still cross-on and messy – not worth paddling out for.
Sunday 23 August is where it starts to get interesting. The morning brings a clean, glassy feel with a gentle offshore wind from the ENE. The swell is a solid 6 feet from the SSW with a 10-second period and moderate energy (607). That’s clean, lined-up, and should be a fun session for intermediate surfers. The afternoon stays clean but the wind shifts cross-off, so the morning is your best bet.
Monday 24 August sees the swell building. The morning is a bit of a gamble with light rain and a cross-off wind, but the swell is already 8 feet at 13 seconds (moderate energy 1761). The afternoon is the real standout though – 10 feet of SSW groundswell with a 14-second period and proper energy (3275). The wind is light and cross-off, so the wave face should be clean. But listen, at 10 feet this is only for experienced surfers. That’s a big, powerful wave for a beach break, so if you’re not confident, give it a miss.
Tuesday 25 August keeps the size up with a 10-foot morning swell from the SSW, but the wind is clean offshore from the E. That’s a beautiful thing to see. The energy is still high (3067), but again, this is big, powerful stuff. The afternoon drops slightly to 8 feet from the S but with a long 14-second period – still a heavy wave.
Wednesday 26 August is another cracker. Morning brings a 7-foot S swell with a 13-second period and clean offshore winds from the ENE. The energy is solid (2424) and the description says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” That’s a session you’d want to be on. The afternoon is bigger at 8 feet with a 16-second period, which is a very long period groundswell. That kind of period can make beach breaks a bit too straight, but the wind is offshore, so it’ll be powerful and clean.
Thursday 27 August keeps the good times rolling with a 7-foot morning swell from the S, 14-second period, and clean offshore winds from the NE. Moderate energy (1575) and excellent conditions for those who can handle it. The afternoon is similar but slightly smaller at 6 feet.
Friday 28 August the swell backs off a bit. Morning is 4 feet from the S with a 12-second period, clean offshore winds, and moderate energy (581). The afternoon is 3 feet with the same wind. It’s surfable, but nothing special.
Then we hit a lull. From Saturday 29 August right through to the end of the forecast, the surf gets small and inconsistent. There are a few days with weak, short-period swell and strong winds, often offshore but too strong to be comfortable. The best of this weak period is maybe Saturday 29 August with a 4-foot E swell but a pitiful 8-second period and low energy (254). It’s not worth the paddle.
The real highlights are Monday 24 August afternoon through Thursday 27 August. The standout is Monday 24 August afternoon: 10-foot SSW groundswell at 14 seconds, with light cross-off winds and a massive energy reading (3275). That’s power, size, and clean conditions. If you’re an expert, that’s the session. For the slightly smaller but still excellent option, Wednesday 26 August morning with 7-foot S swell, 13-second period, and gentle offshore ENE winds – that’s a more manageable high-quality wave.
Water temps are about average for the time of year here, nothing unusual to report.
