Alright, this is Rusty. Let's talk about what's cooking for Figuera over the next couple of weeks. It’s a mixed bag, but there are a couple of windows worth getting excited about.
Overall, the pattern starts off with some fun but not epic waves, then goes quiet, and then builds into a proper pulse of strong, clean swell over the second weekend. The water temp is sitting around 73.8°, which is about average for this time of year. Nothing unusual there.
We kick things off on Monday, the 6th of July. First light is looking a bit average with a 6.2ft SSW swell, but the wind is on it. It’s the afternoon that gets interesting. The swell drops a touch to 5.9ft from the S, but the wind swings to a light ESE cross-off, cleaning things right up. This is your first real highlight. The combined swell energy is pumping at 1374, so there's good power in the water, but it’s not too crazy. The 11-second period means decent shaped waves. This is a solid window for intermediate surfers.
Tuesday morning the 7th, the swell crashes down to 3ft from the S, but check the period – 16 seconds. That’s a very long groundswell. However, the wind is howling from the NNE at 15.5 miles per hour, making it cross-off but messy. The energy has dropped to 767. Not a priority. The rest of the week into the weekend is pretty ordinary. Swell stays small, mostly below 5ft, the winds are cross-onshore or onshore, and the energy is weak to moderate. A few sessions on Friday the 10th show brief hope with a 3.3ft S groundswell and clean offshore ESE wind in the afternoon, but it’s small. The whole run from Tuesday the 7th through to Sunday the 12th is a flat, choppy bore. A long gap of nearly no good surf.
Now, the next Monday, the 13th, things start to wake up. An 8.2ft SSW swell rolls in, but the wind is on it from the WSW. The energy is a solid 1393, but it’s messy. That’s too big for beginners anyway. The real standout arrives Saturday the 18th of July. This is the one. The morning has a 7.9ft S swell with a 13-second period, and the wind is light offshore from the NE. Combined energy is a massive 2142 – that’s strong, powerful surf. The afternoon holds at 6.6ft from the SSW with clean offshore E winds. Both sessions are rated excellent for experienced surfers. This is easily the best on offer. It’s big, it’s clean, and it’s got real grunt. This is a proper groundswell, so expect those long walls and clean faces at Figuera, though the high period means at the beach it might be a bit straight. Still, that wind makes it a gem.
Following that, Sunday the 19th drops to a smaller 4.6ft SSW, and Monday the 20th has a nice 3.3ft S swell in the afternoon with offshore wind, but it’s a step down. The long-range stuff around the 21st is messy with onshore wind.
To sum it up, you get a decent afternoon on the 6th, then a long flat spell, and then a killer weekend from the 18th. That Saturday is your best bet. Get on it.
