The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down Figuera in feet and miles per hour for the crew who think in imperial.
These first few days are a slow burn. Wednesday the 19th has some chest-high easterly windswell at 3-4ft, but it’s short-period (7 seconds) and weak. You could get a couple, but it’s nothing to write home about.
Then we hit a dry spell from Thursday the 20th through Saturday the 22nd. The wind goes onshore, the swell turns to mush, and conditions are just plain ugly. Stay on dry land. Sunday the 23rd is the first decent sign – a 5ft south groundswell with a 10-second period, clean under a light offshore breeze. It’s surfable, but not the main event.
Now, Monday the 24th is where it gets serious. A solid 7ft south groundswell rolls in by morning, with a 13-second period. That’s real power. But the afternoon shows a massive 10ft south swell at 14 seconds with a jaw-dropping energy reading (3376). That’s too big for this spot unless you’re a pro on a big-wave gun. The winds are cross-offshore and clean, so the shape should be there, but this is experts-only territory.
Tuesday the 25th keeps the goods coming. We’re looking at 8ft of long-period south swell (14 seconds) with offshore ENE wind. The conditions look primo for the experienced crowd. Energy readings are through the roof (3066 and 2341).
Wednesday the 26th morning is a gem. The swell drops to a more manageable 6ft, but the wind goes glassy – dead calm. That’s a special morning for the local chargers. Clean, lined-up sets, just for the crew who know the bank.
After that, the swell fades. Thursday the 27th still has a clean 4ft south groundswell with gentle offshore breezes, good for a fun, quiet session.
From Friday the 28th through Monday the 31st, it’s tiny. Windswell under 3ft, onshore winds – a total flat spell.
Tuesday the 1st of September brings a 5ft SSE swell, but it’s short-period and not clean enough to get excited about.
The best of the bunch? Monday the 24th through Wednesday the 26th. The standout is Tuesday the 25th afternoon – 8ft of long-period south swell (14 seconds) with a gentle offshore wind. That’s the one you circle on the calendar if you’ve got the skills. Water temp is around 72°, which is normal for this time of year.
Figuera can get busy when the south swell hits, so expect some company.
Rusty.
