The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the waves coming up for Figuera.
This is a spot that's a consistent, exposed south-facing break, and it's going to keep us on our toes over the next couple of weeks. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is exactly average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days are a bit of a write-off. Tuesday morning has some rain and a messy cross-on wind, with a 5ft south swell but the energy is weak (842). The afternoon turns to a cross-shore choppy mess. Not worth getting wet for.
Now, Wednesday morning the 15th is where it starts to look up. The wind swings offshore from the NE at 9 mph, and we get a clean 5ft swell from the SSE. The energy is moderate (622) and the conditions are looking good. This is a solid option for the intermediate surfer, but don't expect perfection as the swell period is a moderate 10 seconds.
The rest of the week from Thursday the 16th through to the 21st is a long, flat spell with very minimal swell. The wind is offshore, but the waves are tiny, dropping to 0.7ft. There's just nothing to ride.
We get a small pulse on the 22nd, but it's barely surfable with 3ft of weak, short-period windswell. The 23rd sees a raw onshore wind ruin the little bit of swell that pops up.
Now, here's the standout. The 24th of July, Friday morning, the swell picks up a bit with a moderate 3ft from the south and good offshore wind from the NE. The energy is moderate (213). It's clean, but the real action is building.
Forget the first week. The real highlight is the end of the second week. Monday the 27th of July is a big one, but it's a problem. We've got a massive 12ft south groundswell with a very long period of 14 seconds, and the energy is through the roof (3949). However, the forecast says it's too big for this break. That's a bummer, but keep an eye on the tide.
Tuesday the 28th of July is the best bet for the whole outlook. The swell drops to a still-sizeable 8ft from the south, with that same 14-second period. The energy is still very strong (2819). The morning sees a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNE and clean conditions. This is "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers" territory. The swell is over 8ft, so this is firmly for experts only. The very long period means it'll be a heavy, powerful wave, but on a point or reef, it could be epic. Expect crowds, as this spot is known to get them.
After that, we get a pulse on the 29th of July, but the wind is strong and offshore, making it hard to paddle into the 7ft swell. It's a bit of a mess.
So, to sum it up: the first week is a dud. The standout is the morning of Tuesday the 28th of July, but it's for experienced surfers only. The 15th of July is a decent, clean option for the intermediates.
Rusty.
