Table - best surf conditions forecast for Figuera over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the upcoming stretch for Figuera.
The opening days are a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a couple of windows of clean surf that are worth paddling out for. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Kicking off on Thursday, July 9th, the morning is a write-off – cross-onshore wind and very marginal conditions. The afternoon stays poor, so I’d give that day a miss. Friday, July 10th, is where it starts looking interesting. The morning has a cross-offshore breeze from the NE with a 3 ft swell from the SE, period of 14 seconds – that’s a nice long-period groundswell. The real standout is Friday afternoon though: offshore wind from the east, 3 ft swell from the SE, period of 13 seconds, and the combined wave energy is moderate at 452. It’s going to be clean and offers the best chance of a fun session. The optimum swell direction is from the south, so this SE swell is a bit off-angle, but the offshore wind will clean it up nicely.
Saturday, July 11th, is a bit of a letdown. The onshore wind in the morning kills it, and the afternoon is light cross-shore but still marginal. Sunday, July 12th, looks better again: morning light offshore breeze from the north, 3 ft from the SE with a 12-second period, and clean conditions – that’s another good window for a smaller, workable wave.
Monday, July 13th, and Tuesday, July 14th, things get messy. We’ve got rain and strong cross-onshore winds, with swell size bumping up to 5 ft from the south. The combined energy jumps to 896 on Monday morning, which is moderate to strong, but the wind is just not cooperating. The surf is going to be choppy and poor.
Wednesday, July 15th, is a big highlight. Morning brings a light offshore from the NE, 5 ft from the SSE, period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is 496. The forecast says “expect good surf conditions.” That’s the pick of the whole run – clean, solid, and with the wind in your face. The afternoon stays offshore but gets a bit gusty with 19 mph winds, so get out early.
From Thursday, July 16th, onward, the wind gets strong. Offshore winds are still there, but they’re blowing 22 to 25 mph, which makes paddling hard and the waves become a battle. The swell drops through the end of the week, and the combined energy falls to 162 on the 17th and 69 on the 18th – very weak. The surf is small and the wind is just too strong for a relaxed session.
The second week, from July 19th to the 24th, is predominantly small and windy. The morning of the 19th has a 4 ft from the east with 8-second period, but the wind is 16 mph. Combined energy is only 209. Nothing stands out. The offshore winds are persistent, but the swell is too weak to make it worthwhile. By the 24th, a new 13-second S swell tries to push in at 2 ft, but the wind is screaming 25 mph – it’s a clean mess, but you’d struggle to get a wave.
Overall, the standout session is Friday afternoon, July 10th, and the best of the lot is Wednesday morning, July 15th. That Wednesday morning offers the best combo of size, clean wind, and moderate energy. Get on it.
Rusty.
