Praia da Vila Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks.

Alright, the outlook starts with a little something on Wednesday, August 5th. Praia da Vila is looking okay on Wednesday morning. We’ve got a 3.3ft southerly swell, a solid 12-second period pushing in, and the wind is light and offshore from the NE. That’s clean, surfable conditions, and the water is sitting at 72.5°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year. The combined energy is decent at 578. It’s not pumping, but it’s a nice start.

Things go a bit sideways Wednesday afternoon as the wind swings onshore and turns into a cross-shore mess. Thursday morning, the swell picks up a bit to 5.2ft, but it’s coming from the ENE with a short, weak 7-second period. The wind is offshore again, though, so it’s rideable but not perfect. The best morning of the early run looks like Friday, August 7th. We’ve got 4.3ft of ENE swell, 7-second period, and that NNE offshore wind is blowing clean. It’s a small, choppy day, but for a beach break, it’s not a bad way to spend the morning.

Now, hold on to your board shorts. Saturday, August 8th, is where things get interesting. The afternoon session is looking at a 5.9ft SSW swell with a massive 15-second period, and the combined energy is a whopping 1636. That’s proper groundswell. The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean. This is for the experienced crew, though. At 5.9ft, it’s not massive, but with that long period, it’s going to be powerful and could be a bit much for beginners. This is a standout for the week.

Sunday, August 9th, the swell is up to 6.9ft in the morning, still from the SSW with a 13-second period, but the wind is onshore, so it’s going to be bumpy. It gets messy in the afternoon. The rest of the week into the next sees a lot of marginal conditions with onshore winds and large, messy swell. The second week is a mixed bag, but the standout is definitely Saturday, August 15th. The morning has a 8.2ft southerly swell with a 13-second period, and the combined energy is a staggering 4216. The wind is light and cross-on, so it’s going to be a bit lumpy, but that’s a lot of water moving. This is strictly for experts. The period is long enough to really draw out the power, so it’ll be a challenge.

The real gem for the true charger might be that Saturday afternoon, August 15th, with a 8.2ft, 16-second period swell from the south, and light cross-on wind. It’s big, powerful, and for the brave only. The crowd factor is always a possibility at Praia da Vila, so be prepared.

Overall, the best windows are the Wednesday, August 5th morning for a clean, small wave, and the Saturday, August 8th afternoon for a cleaner, more powerful groundswell. The final week sees a drop in size, with a glassy, small 4.3ft day on Wednesday, August 19th, but it’s light rain. That’s about as good as it gets for the second week.
