The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Prainha has on offer for us.

We've got a bit of a slow start, but the good news is this spot is very consistent, so it won't stay flat for long. The first session worth paddling out for is on Tuesday morning, the 4th of August. We're looking at clean, cross-off conditions with a light breeze, and a small 4ft easterly swell rolling in. The water is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 73°. The wave energy is moderate (329), so it's not a powerhouse, but it'll be a fun, clean little wave for a beginner session.

The real standouts in this outlook are the sessions on the 9th and 10th. Sunday morning, the 9th, we're looking at clean, cross-off winds from the west with a solid 6ft groundswell out of the SSW. The period is a nice 13 seconds, which means real energy in the water (1313). That's a good, strong, moderate energy. Then Monday morning, the 10th, is also looking prime with a clean 6ft swell from the S, with a 12-second period and good energy (1032). Both of these mornings are going to be the pick of the week. The swell is getting up a bit, but it's still in the fun zone for most surfers, not too big.

Now, for the more experienced crew, keep an eye on the morning of the 19th of August. That's a long way out, so don't book the day off yet, but the models are showing a glassy 7ft SSW swell with a 12-second period. The energy is strong (1259). The afternoon of that same day, however, the swell jumps to 10ft, which is too big for this break and only for experts. Something to watch as it gets closer.

The second week has a few more clean mornings, like the 14th and 15th, with 5ft to 6ft of S swell, but it's a mixed bag of wind and conditions. The 17th morning has a little 4ft glassy wave, but it's nothing to write home about.

Overall, the first ten days have the best windows. The gap between some of the smaller, poorer afternoons and the next good morning is usually just a day or so, so you won't be waiting long. The setup is a beach and reef, so it can handle a bit of swell, but when it's over 8ft it's just for the brave.

Stay salty,
Rusty
