The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break down São Conrado (beach and reef) for the next couple of weeks.

It’s a slow start. Thursday morning is flat glass, but the swell is a tiny 2ft from the east with weak energy (55). It’s surfable, but barely. Friday is even worse. Saturday the 25th sees a bump to 4ft from the south with moderate energy (322), but the wind is all over the place – cross-shore in the morning, then cross-onshore in the afternoon. It’s messy.

Now, Sunday the 26th is the first real standout. Morning glass off with no wind, and a nice 3ft south swell with a very long 14-second period. The energy is strong (456). That groundswell will set up some clean lines at this reef, and with the calm conditions, it’s going to be a great session. The water temp is about 72°, which is pretty normal for the time of year.

Monday the 27th is another good one. Morning glass again, with 3ft south swell and a 12-second period. Energy is moderate (279). Clean, glassy, and fun. Tuesday and Wednesday drop off a bit in size, but the offshore winds keep things tidy – still surfable, just not the best of the window.

After a bit of a lull, we get another promising stretch. Saturday, August 1st, has a clean morning with 3ft south swell and moderate energy (216). Then Sunday the 2nd afternoon picks up with a 3ft east swell and a clean cross-offshore breeze (243 energy). That’s a solid option.

The real standout for the second week looks like Tuesday, August 4th. Morning glass with a 4ft south swell, 11-second period, and strong energy (336). Clean, glassy, and decent size. Wednesday the 5th morning is also great with a clean 3ft swell and offshore wind (308 energy).

Looking further out, Thursday, August 6th morning has a clean 2ft south swell with a very long 13-second period and offshore wind (264 energy). That’s a long-period groundswell, so expect some proper lines, but it might be a bit straight for the beach section – best for the reef.

Overall, the pick of the entire forecast is Sunday, July 26th morning and Tuesday, August 4th morning. Both are glassy, clean, and have solid, well-ordered swell. The 26th has the edge with that very long 14-second period and strong energy.

Rusty.
