First up, the water’s sitting at a notably warm 70°, which is about 4° above the usual for this time of year—definitely feels more like a summer bath than early spring. That’s a nice bonus when you’re sitting out there waiting for something decent.

The first week is almost a write‑off. Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th are barely ankle‑snappers with weak, short‑period easterly windswell around 2ft to 4ft and combined energy barely breaking 148 (weak). Winds are cross‑onshore or onshore, so it’s choppy and messy. Not worth paddling out.

Monday the 7th morning shows a pulse of 7ft from the SSE with energy jumping to 550 (moderate), but the period is only 7 seconds—short‑period stuff, and winds are light cross‑shore. It’s a marginal call at best. Tuesday and Wednesday are tiny—1ft to 3ft with energy under 100. Wednesday morning the 9th goes glassy with a calm wind, but there’s almost no push. You could catch a tiny knee‑high wave if you’re desperate.

The real standout, and the only one I’d circle on the calendar, is Monday the 14th of September. We get a solid 8ft swell from the SSE with a 12‑second period—proper groundswell—and the combined energy is a massive 2730 (strong to very strong). Winds are light cross‑shore from the SSW, so the surface should stay reasonably clean. That’s expert territory at that size, and with a longer period like that, it’ll be powerful and lined up best on a point or reef, though Barra do Sai is exposed and can handle it. Just be aware that waves over 8ft are for experienced surfers only. The morning window is the pick.

Sunday the 13th offers a tiny 1ft SE groundswell with a long 13‑second period and clean cross‑offshore winds, but the size is too small to get excited about—combined energy only 110 (weak).

Crowds at Barra do Sai are listed as “sometimes,” so on that Monday the 14th you might have company, but it won’t be a circus. Consistency is fairly consistent, so it’s not a fluke spot.

From the 15th onward, the swell drops back to waist‑high or smaller with moderate energy and mostly cross‑onshore winds, so no real highlights. The 18th has a 2ft SSE swell with a 14‑second period, but winds are light cross‑onshore and energy is 296 (moderate)—ordinary conditions.
