Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barra Velha over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
Mate, the outlook for Barra Velha is a bit of a mixed bag over the next 16 days. We’ve got a decent run of small, clean waves coming up, but the first week is definitely the pick. The water is sitting at 64°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothing to worry about there.
The real action starts on Saturday the 11th of July. The afternoon session is looking glassy with a light 3 mph breeze from the NNE, and we’ve got a clean 3 ft swell from the ESE. The energy is low to moderate (301), but the conditions will be sweet for a beginner-friendly log. It’s a beach and point break, so there’s a bit of variety.
Sunday morning on the 12th is a standout. The wind is offshore from the WSW at 6 mph, and we’ve got a 3 ft ESE swell with a nice 12-second period. The energy is moderate (333), and the face will be clean. The break is fairly consistent, though you might have to share it with a few others as crowds are sometimes present.
Monday the 13th sees a bit more size. The morning session has a 6 ft SSE swell, but the period is short at 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly. The wind is light cross-off from the SSW, so it’ll be clean. The wave energy is moderate (587), but this size is pushing it for beginners.
Tuesday the 14th is another glassy morning, with a 5 ft ESE swell (10-second period) and clean conditions. The energy is moderate (387), and it’ll be a fun, user-friendly wave. The afternoon is even better with a glassy calm, 5 ft ESE swell and a longer 11-second period, giving it a bit more push (491 energy).
Wednesday the 15th holds similar conditions in the morning – glassy, 5 ft ESE swell.
Thursday the 16th is the absolute best of the first week. The morning is glassy with a 5 ft ESE swell, but the period jumps to 12 seconds, giving it proper groundswell punch. The energy is moderate (531), and it’ll be the cleanest, most powerful wave of the run.
After that, things taper off. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are still surfable in the mornings with glassy conditions, but the size drops to 3 ft, and the energy is moderate to low.
The second week is a bit of a write-off for any real quality. From Sunday the 19th through to Saturday the 25th, we’re mostly looking at small, weak, short-period swell (8 seconds or less) with cross-on winds in the afternoons. The mornings are glassy, but the surf is ordinary. There’s a bit of a pulse on Saturday the 25th with a 4 ft E swell in the afternoon, but it’s nothing to write home about.
Then, on Sunday the 26th, the swell builds to 8 ft from the SE with a 9-second period, but the wind is a cross-on 9 mph, making it choppy and messy. The energy is strong (1121), but the conditions are marginal. For a beach and point setup, that’s looking more like a kite surfer’s day than a paddle surfer’s.
So, the pick of the fortnight is hands down Thursday the 16th of July for the morning glassy session, with Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th being solid runners-up.
Rusty.
