Table - best surf conditions forecast for Galheta over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break it down. The next week and a half is a mixed bag, with a real cold snap and a few windows of clean, rideable surf. The standout is the weekend, so pencil that in.
First up, we’ve got some small, hopeful swell. The water is sitting at 60°, which is a solid 6° colder than usual for this time of year – that’s a serious chill, so bring a thick suit if you’re hitting Galheta.
Thursday July 9th afternoon is a no-go: 3 ft ESE swell at 10 seconds, with a cross-offshore wind from the NNE at 12 mph just making a mess. The energy is weak (116). Skip it.
Friday July 10th morning is where it starts to get interesting. The wind drops to glassy, almost nothing from the WSW at 3 mph, and we’ve got a clean 2 ft ESE groundswell with a long 14-second period. The combined energy is moderate (288). It’s small, but glassy and clean. You’ll be scratching for waves, but it’s a lovely, lonely session. The afternoon gets a bit lumpy with a cross-on shore from the S at 6 mph, so morning is the call.
Saturday July 11th is your best bet. The morning brings a 5 ft ESE swell (13 seconds) with a clean offshore breeze from the NNW at 9 mph. The energy is solid (700) and it’s going to be clean. The afternoon holds up too, with 3 ft and the same offshore wind. This is the pick of the week – get out there.
Sunday July 12th morning is another winner. Glassy conditions from the SW at 3 mph, with 5 ft of ESE groundswell at 12 seconds. The energy is pumping (759). It’s a bit bigger, but still manageable for intermediates. The afternoon turns ugly with a 19 mph onshore from the south, so get your fill before lunch.
Monday July 13th through to Thursday July 17th is a mixed bag of small, messy, or weak surf. The energy drops off a cliff, and winds are mostly cross or onshore. There’s a tiny window on Tuesday July 14th afternoon with a 4 ft SSE swell (9 seconds) and cross-off wind, but it’s marginal. Mostly, it’s a period to sit on the beach and watch the horizon.
Then we hit a hard gap. From Friday July 18th through to the morning of Wednesday July 23rd, there’s nothing. Zero swell. Flat as a pancake. The water will be calm, but the surf is completely dead. Don’t bother checking the cams.
Wednesday July 23rd morning finally brings a pulse back. A 4 ft ENE swell (8 seconds) with a light offshore from the N at 9 mph. The energy is moderate (221) and it’s clean. This is a promising, far-off option, but it’s a short-period swell, so it won’t have much shape. It’s a glimpse of hope for the long range.
Thursday July 24th afternoon shows a 5 ft SSE swell (8 seconds), but the wind is cross-off and the energy is strong (404). It’s going to be a bit of a bumpy, short-period affair, so only for the keen.
Overall, the clear winner is Saturday July 11th morning, with Sunday morning a close second. The rest of the window is a battle for scraps. The crowd situation at Galheta is “sometimes,” so Saturday might have a few out, but the waves will be good enough to share.
Rusty.
