Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a good look at what’s comin’ down the line for Galheta.
Right now, we’re in a flat spell. The first few days are pretty grim with next to no surf on offer. Saturday the 4th is a write-off with weak 2ft ENE windswell and onshore winds messin’ things up. Sunday the 5th shows a slight improvement – glassy morning with the same 2ft ENE swell, but it’s only just surfable, nothin’ to write home about.
Things start to get interesting on Monday the 6th. A new SSE swell arrives, building to 4ft, with a period of 10 seconds and clean offshore N winds all day. The combined swell energy hits a solid 374-416 (moderate to strong), which gives the waves some punch. This is the first real standout of the period – get on it if you’re an intermediate surfer. Lookin’ at a Monday morning session for the best.
Now, there’s a bit of a lull after that. Tuesday through Saturday the 11th are mostly messy with cross-onshore or onshore winds and poor conditions. The swell stays small, between 2ft and 3ft. Not worth paddlin’ out unless you’re desperate.
Come Sunday the 12th, we get another decent window. Clean NNW offshore breeze in the morning with a 3ft ESE groundswell at 12 seconds. The combined energy is 225 (moderate). It’s clean and has some shape, but it’s not huge. A good one for a relaxed Sunday mornin’ surf.
After that, it goes flat again from Monday the 13th right through to Friday the 17th. Wave heights drop below 2ft, energy levels fall to single digits in many cases. A long, quiet stretch.
Then we jump to Saturday the 18th – a new pulse of 4ft ENE windswell shows up, with a short period of 6 seconds, but offshore NNW winds keep it clean. The energy is weak (84-94), so it’s more of a small, crumbly wave for fun on a longboard. The week after, on Sunday the 19th, we see a spike in swell height (7ft ENE, period 8 seconds) with big combined energy (597), but that’s predicted to be too big for this break – experts only, and even then, it might be a washing machine.
Best on offer: Get in the water Monday the 6th for that clean 4ft SSE groundswell with offshore winds. Also, Sunday the 12th morning is a solid, clean option with the 3ft ESE groundswell. The water is running at 62°F – that’s 4°F colder than average for this time of year, so definitely grab a thicker wetsuit if you’ve got one.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
