The Lowdown
Imperial
Alright, let’s break it down in feet and miles per hour.
Monday afternoon, July 13th, is a total dud – 2ft ESE swell with onshore breeze and choppy water. The water is 60°, which is a crazy 6° colder than average, so you’ll want a thick wetsuit.
The first real window opens Tuesday morning, July 14th. We’ve got a 6ft SE swell, 10-second period, moderate energy (597). The wind is a light cross-shore, so it’s a bit lumpy. The real winner is Tuesday afternoon: same 6ft swell, but the wind turns light cross-offshore, making the waves clean. The forecast says “very good surf conditions,” and that’s the best session of the early week. Crowds are possible.
Wednesday morning, July 15th, has a clean offshore breeze at 9 mph, but the swell drops to 5ft. Thursday, July 16th, is small but clean with 3ft ESE swell and moderate offshore winds. Then we hit a dead zone: from Friday, July 17th, through Monday, July 20th, the surf is flat or tiny – a solid four-day gap.
Then things get spicy. Thursday afternoon, July 23rd, a 6ft SSE swell pulses in with a 12-second period, sending the combined energy to 1000 (strong). The wind is moderate cross-offshore, and the waves are clean. But that’s getting big. The real standout is Friday morning, July 24th: a 8ft east swell, 8-second period, combined energy of 977 (strong), with a light cross-shore wind. The forecast warns that the swell is too big for this break. That’s a heavy, short-period swell only for the experts. Saturday morning, July 25th, is similar with 7ft ENE swell and light cross-shore winds. This is a few days of legit power.
Sunday afternoon, July 26th, eases off to a clean 4ft ESE swell with light offshore wind – a nice, manageable session. The final standout, Monday July 27th, is an 8ft ENE swell with a 9-second period and offshore winds. The combined energy is 1003 (strong). That’s big, powerful, and only for the experienced crew. It’s a promising but heavy way to end the forecast.
Rusty out.
