Table - best surf conditions forecast for Galheta over the next 16 days.

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Galheta.

The pattern over the next 16 days is a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up, but it’s not all going to be clean. There’s a few days early on that are a write-off, so we’ll have to be patient. The standout window is around the middle of the week with some nice, clean offshore winds and a decent punch of ESE swell.

We kick off on Friday the 10th. Honestly, it’s a bit of a dud right now. The swell is a modest 3 ft from the ESE, but with a cross-onshore wind, it’s going to be a bit bumpy. The water is feeling mighty cold, a full 3° colder than usual, so you’ll want a good thick steamer. The wave energy is moderate (450), but it’s not worth paddling out for.

Saturday the 11th is where it starts to get interesting. Morning looks choice. The swell bumps up to 5 ft from the ESE, and we’ve got a clean, offshore wind from the North. The energy is building nicely (700), and it’s going to be one of the best on offer. If you’re a confident intermediate, get out there for Saturday morning. The afternoon is still good with a clean cross-off wind, but the swell eases back to 3 ft.

Sunday the 12th is a step back. The wind swings cross-onshore, making things messy. The swell is 4 ft, but it’s not worth it with the bump. By Sunday afternoon, a fresh onshore breeze of 19 mph from the South is going to ruin it completely.

Monday the 13th is also a write-off. The swell drops to 3 ft and the wind is cross-onshore or onshore all day. Don’t bother.

Now, here’s the real standout. Tuesday the 14th. The swell jumps up to 6 ft from the SE, with a period of 10 seconds. The energy is strong (890). The wind swings light and offshore from the WNW in the morning. This is going to be clean and powerful. Tuesday afternoon, the swell hits 7 ft from the SE (990 energy), with a clean offshore wind from the North. This is getting into expert territory for size, but if you’re experienced, it’s going to be a ripper. The waves will have some punch, so keep your wits about you.

Wednesday the 15th is still good. The swell holds at 6 ft from the ESE, and we’ve got clean offshore winds in the morning. The energy is still strong (753). The afternoon gets a bit more wind, but it’s still rideable.

Thursday the 16th is another solid option. The swell is 5 ft from the ESE, with a moderate offshore wind. It’s clean. The energy is 669. If you missed Tuesday, this is your next best bet.

The surf then starts to fade through Friday the 17th and into the weekend. Saturday the 18th is small and weak, with energy dropping to 78 by the afternoon. Sunday the 19th is flat.

Monday the 20th has a new pulse of swell in the afternoon, 5 ft from the ENE, but it’s a short period windswell (8 seconds) and the energy is only 261. It’s surfable, but nothing special.

From Tuesday the 21st through to Friday the 24th, it’s a mix of small, short-period ENE swell, with onshore winds and choppy conditions. The wave energy is low, mostly under 250. Not a great run.

The very end of the window, Saturday the 25th, has a tiny 3 ft ENE swell, but it’s glassy in the morning. It’s a long shot, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, it might be the only option.

To wrap it up, your best bet is Tuesday the 14th for the biggest, cleanest swell, with Saturday morning the 11th and Thursday the 16th being the next best for a solid session. The crowds at Galheta can be a factor sometimes, so get there early for the best of it.

Rusty.
