Table - best surf conditions forecast for Galheta over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's look at what's on the table for Galheta over the next couple of weeks. We've got a bit of a wait on our hands, but there's some solid potential brewing if you're patient.
The water here is sitting at a chilly 60°F, which is a massive 6°F colder than normal for this time of year. This is seriously unusual, so you're going to want a thick steamer.
The outlook starts with a bit of a dud. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are a write-off. South winds are howling at 19 mph, smashing any small swell, so don't even bother looking at it.
The first real window opens up on Tuesday the 14th. Morning conditions look clean with a light W wind. We’ve got a solid SE swell coming through at 6 ft, with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is solid at 557 – good, surfable power. We’re looking at some punchy waves. This is likely to be a standout. The afternoon cleans up even more with a light NNE breeze at 3 mph. The swell bumps up a touch to 6 ft (653 combined energy), making it a solid, fun size for intermediates. Keep in mind, with it being a 10-second period, it’ll be a bit more walled up than a long-period groundswell.
Wednesday the 15th is another gem, especially the morning. The wind goes straight offshore from the N at 9 mph, and the swell holds at 6 ft from the ESE. That is prime, clean Galheta. The energy is still strong at 616. This is the best on offer, no doubt. The afternoon drops slightly to 5 ft but stays clean with the same offshore breeze.
Thursday the 16th morning is still good with the offshore N wind, but the swell has eased to 4 ft (286 energy). It’s smaller but clean. The afternoon gets dicey as the wind swings and picks up to 16 mph, making it messy.
From Friday the 17th through to the 21st, the swell drops off significantly. We get small clean mornings but nothing with any real push or power. There’s a gap here where the surf is just too weak to get excited about. The energy readings are in the low triple digits and even down to zero on some days.
There’s a little spike on Tuesday the 22nd. Morning offers a 4 ft swell from the ENE with an 8-second period and light N wind. The energy is moderate at 221, and it’s clean. It’s a fun little session for a log or a fish, but nothing special.
Thursday the 23rd gives us a shift – a 3 ft SSE swell with a better 11-second period. The wind is still offshore from the N, so that longer-period energy will make for some nice, lined-up waves if the size is enough to break.
Watch out for Friday the 24th. The wind swings to a strong S at 12 mph, bringing a messy 6 ft S swell with a tiny, short 6-second period. That’s going to be a choppy mess, more for the kiters than paddle surfers.
The very tail end of the period, Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th, looks flat and glassy but with no swell to speak of.
So, bottom line: your standout days are Tuesday the 14th, and the absolute pick of the bunch is Wednesday the 15th. Get on it if you can.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
