The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming our way, with a solid kick-off but then a long, quiet spell before things might start to bubble up again.
The action starts from Tuesday, 14 July, with a solid pulse of swell. The main player is Galheta (intermediate, fairly consistent). The water is sitting at 61°F, which is a whopping 5°F colder than normal for this time of year—so it’s gonna feel pretty chilly, don’t forget the thick rubber.
Tuesday afternoon starts us off with some clouds and a light cross-offshore breeze from the NNE at 6 mph. The swell is a clean 6 ft from the SE with a 10-second period, packing a moderate kick of energy (542). It’s right in that sweet spot for a decent session, and with light winds, it should be looking pretty good.
Wednesday the 15th is where it gets really interesting. The morning is cloudy with a fresh NNW offshore wind at 9 mph. The swell drops a touch to 5 ft from the SE, but it’s still clean and glassy with that offshore groomer. The energy is still solid (392). This is the standout window for the whole period—clean, offshore, and a proper wave. The afternoon stays good with clear skies, a stronger N wind at 12 mph keeping it offshore, and a 4 ft SE swell (320 energy). You’ll want to be in the water Wednesday morning.
Thursday the 16th holds on with a clean 3 ft ESE swell in the morning (212 energy) and a steady N offshore wind. Good, fun-sized waves. The afternoon drops off a bit in size and quality, but still worth a look if you’re around.
Friday the 17th is the last day of real surf. Morning has a tiny 2 ft ESE swell (88 energy) with a light offshore breeze. It’s small, but clean. After that, things go flat.
From Saturday the 18th through to Wednesday the 22nd, we hit a big dead zone. There’s almost no wave energy—just zeros across the board. Even with glassy or offshore winds, there’s nothing to ride. It’s a proper lull, and for this area, that’s a pretty normal blank run.
Things start to stir again on Thursday, 23 July. A weak 3 ft ENE swell arrives with a short 8-second period (113 energy) and a light N offshore wind. It’s surfable but very ordinary. Friday the 24th is similar, with a small 3 ft SSE swell (84 energy) and a moderate offshore wind. A few waves, but nothing to write home about.
The first week of the forecast is definitely the best bet. The standout is Wednesday morning, 15 July, at Galheta. That’s your call. Get in the water then.
Rusty, signing off.
