The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, let's talk about what's on the menu.
First up, we've got a classic right-hander on the cards: Lambe Lambe – a point break that doesn't fire often, so when it lines up, you pay attention. The water's sitting about average for this time of year, right around 67°F.
We're looking at a slow start, but the real standout window is Monday, August 24th. That morning, the swell is bumping up to 6ft out of the south with a proper 13-second period, and we've got a clean offshore wind from the SSW. The energy is pumping hard (1345), and the conditions are saying "excellent" for anyone who knows what they're doing. The afternoon holds solid too, with the swell pushing 6ft from the SSE and a 14-second period – still clean and cross-off. This is the pick of the week, no question.
Tuesday, August 25th morning is a sneaky good one. The swell drops a touch to 5ft from the SSE, but the wind is dead calm – glassy as it gets. That's a rare treat at a point break. The energy is still moderate (660), and the waves will be clean and inviting.
After that, things get messy. From Tuesday afternoon through to the end of the month, the wind swings onshore or cross-onshore, the swell drops and gets short-period, and the quality tanks. Thursday, August 28th and Friday, August 29th are write-offs – onshore wind and weak, short-period ENE swell. You'd be better off cleaning the wax off your board.
We get a bit of a respite on Saturday, August 30th morning with a light offshore wind and a 4ft ENE swell, but it's small and ordinary. The energy is weak (259). Not worth racing for.
Then there's a quiet period until Wednesday, September 2nd. That morning, the swell jumps back up to 7ft from the south with a 10-second period, and the wind is cross-off from the SSW. The energy is strong (977), and the forecast says "very good." This is a solid option for experienced surfers, but at 7ft, it's starting to get a bit heavy for the learners. The afternoon pushes up to 8ft from the SSE – that's expert territory, for sure. The period is a decent 11 seconds, but the wind switches to a cross-off from the SE, so it's still clean.
Thursday, September 3rd morning is another glassy moment – 6ft from the SSE with an 11-second period, and the wind is dead calm. The energy is moderate (705). A beautiful morning for a point break surf.
The rest of the forecast fades into small, weak, and onshore wind junk. Sunday, September 7th afternoon is the last gasp – a tiny 2ft from the ESE with a 9-second period, but at least the wind is a light cross-off, so it's clean. Still, it's not much to write home about.
Bottom line: Monday, August 24th is the absolute standout – big, clean, long-period south swell with offshore winds. Tuesday morning, August 25th and Wednesday, September 2nd are your next best bets for experienced surfers. The rest is mostly a waiting game, but that's the price of a rarely-breaking point break.
Rusty.
