The Lowdown
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our little slice of the coast here at Lambe Lambe.
Honestly, the next few days are a bit of a write-off. We’ve got a run of pretty ordinary conditions from this Friday right through to the start of the following week. The wind is onshore and the surf quality is just not there. You’ll see some small swell around 4ft to 6ft, mostly from the NE with a short period of 8 seconds, but the wind is spoiling it. The water is sitting at 61°, which is a good 5° colder than what we’d usually expect for this time of year – so you’ll want a thick wetsuit if you’re thinking of getting in.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Tuesday the 21st of July. The morning goes glassy with no wind, and we’ve got a tiny 4ft swell from the ENE. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s surfable and clean. The combined energy is weak (220), so it’s a small-scale session. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off breeze, but the swell drops a touch.
We then hit another dry spell until Thursday the 24th of July. That morning is the pick of the first week. A solid 4ft S swell arrives with an 11-second period, and the wind is a light cross-off. The combined energy climbs to a moderate 414, and the conditions are clean. It’s a small but fun day for the intermediates and above.
The real standout, though, is the following Monday, the 27th of July. This is the one to circle. The morning brings a 4ft SSE groundswell with a long 13-second period, and we get a moderate offshore wind from the SSW. The combined energy is strong at 679, and the report flags it as very good surf. The afternoon holds up too, with a similar 4ft SSE swell and still offshore. This is a classic point break setup – the long period will wrap in nicely, and the offshore wind will keep the faces clean. It’s a proper session for the experienced crew.
The following Thursday, the 30th of July, also looks promising. Another S swell, this time 6ft with an 11-second period, clean with a gentle offshore wind. The energy is strong at 825. That’s a bit more size, so it’s best for those with a few seasons under their belt.
After that, things taper off into small, clean but ordinary conditions into the start of August. The bigger shows are in the last week of July.
So, keep your powder dry for the 27th and the 30th. The rest is mostly a waiting game.
