The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Lambe Lambe. This is a tricky little point break that rarely breaks, so when it does, you gotta be on it. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
We’ve got a slow start. The first few days are a write-off – Thursday the 20th through to Friday the 21st have surf but the conditions are ordinary or poor, so don’t even bother. Wait it out.
Saturday 22nd August morning is where it finally gets interesting. A clean 5ft swell out of the south, with a gentle offshore breeze from the S. It’s not massive, but the combined energy is moderate (503) and the offshore wind will have it looking clean. This is a good window for a surf, but remember, this break is inconsistent, so it might be a bit of a gamble.
Sunday 23rd August morning keeps the run going with a 4ft south swell, offshore S wind at 6 mph, and a longer period of 11 seconds. The energy is moderate (362). It’s clean and should have some shape. Then the afternoon gets a bit lumpy with a cross-offshore breeze.
The real standout though – the one you want to circle – is Monday 24th August morning. Lambe Lambe is pumping. We’ve got a 6ft south swell with a long 13-second period, combined energy is strong at 1609, and the wind is light offshore from the S. This is proper. The conditions are excellent for experienced surfers – the size is pushing up, so if you’re not confident, maybe sit this one out. This is the best on offer.
Tuesday 25th August morning is still good – glassy conditions with a 5ft SSE swell, period of 13 seconds, and energy at 823. Clean and fun. The afternoon turns onshore and messy, so morning is the move.
After that, things fade a bit. Wednesday 26th August morning has a glassy 3ft swell with a very long 16-second period, energy at 688. That kind of period can make a point break like this really line up, but the size is small. Worth a paddle if you’re keen.
Then we hit a big gap. From Thursday 27th August all the way through to Sunday 30th August, conditions are poor – onshore wind, small chop. Nothing worth your time. The run picks back up on Sunday 30th August afternoon with a clean 3ft ENE swell and offshore SSE wind at 16 mph, but it’s ordinary at best.
Monday 31st August has a clean but small 4ft ENE swell with a fresh offshore S wind, but the energy is weak (275) and the period is short. It’s surfable but nothing special.
The next real highlight is Tuesday 1st September afternoon. The swell jumps to 7ft from the south, period of 8 seconds, with a moderate offshore S wind. Energy is solid at 683. That’s a proper wave, but at over 7ft and a short period, this is one for the experts only – it’ll be punchy.
The first week of September sees the quality drop again with moderate to heavy rain and onshore winds. There’s a little window on Friday 4th September morning with a 5ft ENE swell and offshore S wind, but the energy is only moderate (233) and the period is short.
So, in short: the absolute best sessions are Monday 24th August morning and Tuesday 1st September afternoon. The 24th is the top pick – best conditions, best energy, and clean. Get on it if you can.
Rusty.
