Pedra do Sal Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Pedra do Sal. Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this 16-day window is a tough one for surfers. The whole period is a bit of a struggle for decent waves, so don't get your hopes up too high for a proper session.

Right now, and for the first few days, it’s looking pretty grim. Sunday, August 2nd, kicks off with poor surf conditions. We’ve got a weak 3 ft swell from the ESE with a period of only 7 seconds, and a cross-shore wind from the East at 12 mph. The combined energy is a low 135, so there’s just not enough push. This continues into Monday and Tuesday with similar cross-onshore winds and a bumpy, chopped-up ocean. The swell does climb to 5 ft on Tuesday morning, but it’s messy and onshore, so it’s just a washout.

We finally get a bit of a break on Thursday, August 6th. The morning looks promising. There’s a light 6 mph NE cross-offshore breeze, so the ocean should be clean. Wave heights are around 4 ft from the ESE, with a moderate 234 combined energy. The wave comment says "expect good surf conditions", so that Thursday morning is your best bet for a paddle. After that, the wind swings back around and ruins it by the afternoon.

The following week, from the 7th to the 11th, is a real mixed bag of poor conditions. We get occasional clean windows with light offshore winds, like Friday morning and Saturday morning, but the swell is tiny – around 3 ft – and the period is a short 7 seconds. The energy is low, between 102 and 158. You might get a fun little wave, but it’s not going to be anything to write home about.

Then there’s a big gap. From the 12th of August, the surf is just not there. A few days of cross-shore chop and no real swell energy. The 14th of August, Friday morning, shows promise again with a clean 3 ft swell and a gentle offshore breeze, but again, it’s small.

The best and most interesting swell of the whole outlook arrives on Saturday, August 15th. We’ve got a 3 ft swell from the East, but the period jumps to 13 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and the combined energy is a solid 377. However, the wind is a gentle cross-shore, so it won’t be perfect. The real bummer is the swell is a bit small for that long period, and the wave comment says "marginal surf forecast". It’s a tease, but it’s the standout of the 16 days. If you’re keen, it’s the one to watch, but the long period will make it a bit tricky on the beach break – it might be better if you can find a point or a reef. The following morning on the 16th, the wind is a cross-onshore, so it’s gone.

Overall, the water temp is about average for the time of year, so the rubber isn't necessary. But honestly, for the next two weeks, you’re mostly looking at short-period, weak windswell and bad winds. Thursday morning, August 6th, is the true standout for clean conditions, and Saturday, August 15th, has the most interesting deep-water energy. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but temper your expectations. This is a real lean spell.
