Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’re looking at a pretty quiet stretch coming up for Farol da Barra. There’s not much to get excited about for the first week, but the second week does show a flicker of hope.
Right now, through the start of July, it’s a struggle. The water temps are sitting around 80°, which is about average for this time of year, but the surf just isn’t cooperating. We’ve got a mix of moderate cross-onshore and onshore winds messing up the surface, and the swell is a weak, short-period affair. From Thursday the 2nd through to Tuesday the 7th, it’s pretty much all poor surf conditions. The wave energy is low, bouncing around from 459 down to just 115 (weak). You’ll see some chest-high stuff on the 3rd at 6ft from the ESE, but with a cross-wind and chop, it’s not worth paddling out for. Expect a bit of a lull here.
Now, things get a bit more interesting starting Wednesday, July 8th. We get a shift. A cleaner, longer-period groundswell from the SSE (12 seconds) shows up. It’s small, only 2ft, but the early morning sees a light offshore wind from the north. This makes for some clean, surfable waves, even if they’re tiny. The best bet across the whole 16 days looks to be Thursday morning, July 9th. There’s a light offshore breeze, the swell is a bit more defined at 3ft from the SSE, and the wave energy is moderate (314). It’ll be small, but clean and glassy. Given this is a point break that’s inconsistent, you need a bit of patience, but the quality of the ride should be good. Crowds are possible here, so get out early.
The weekend of the 12th and 13th also has some promise. Sunday morning the 12th and Monday morning the 13th offer clean conditions with light cross-offshore winds and a similar 3ft SSE groundswell. It’s still small, but the wave quality will be there. After that, we fade into very weak, poor conditions through the middle of the month. The appearance of a 14-second period swell around the 16th sounds good, but it’s still messy with cross-onshore winds, so don’t count on it.
In short, the standout window is the mornings of July 8th, 9th, 12th, and 13th. Small, but clean and workable on the point. The rest of the window is a write-off.
Rusty.
