The Lowdown
Right, mate, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the Tubao stretch over the next 16 days. We’re kickin’ off on Thursday, the 6th of August, and straight away we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag. The first session is a standout, but after that, it’s a long wait for the next real clean window.
Thursday morning is where it’s at, no question. We’ve got a clean 4 ft swell rollin’ in from the ESE, with a period of 8 seconds. That’s a solid, workable wave for a beginner-plus spot like Tubao. The wind is light out of the west at 10 km/h, blowin’ cross-offshore, which is gonna keep the surface glassy. Combined swell energy is 210 (moderate), and the water temp is about average for this time of year. It’s the best on offer, hands down. A ripper morning.
Now, the bad news: after that, things go quiet. From Thursday afternoon all the way through to the morning of Saturday the 15th of August, there’s nothin’ worth paddlin’ out for. The wind switches onshore, and the quality drops right off. You’ll see a few small, messy waves, but you’re better off stayin’ dry.
Then, on Saturday morning, the 15th of August, we get a real surprise. The combined swell energy jumps to 482 (strong), and the swell is a long-period 16-second groundswell from the SSE, but only 2 ft. That’s a long, clean line. The wind is light from the north at 10 km/h, cross-offshore, and it’s clear skies. The break is consistent, and with that light breeze, it’ll be clean. But with period that long, it’ll be straight and fast at Tubao, so more of a point break wave. Still, a beauty for a surf.
The next day, Sunday the 16th, is another good one. Morning session brings a 3 ft ESE swell, 12-second period, with a gentle north-northeast breeze at 15 km/h, cross-offshore. Combined energy is 357 (strong). Clean again. That makes two mornings in a row worth gettin’ out of bed for.
After that, the window closes again. The 17th and 18th have some surfable but ordinary conditions, with onshore winds, but nothin’ special. The 19th has a tiny 3 ft, 6-second windswell, but at least it’s clean in the morning. By the 20th and 21st, it’s all over – small, messy, and not worth a look.
So, for the real standout: Thursday 6th August morning is the one. The 4 ft, 8-second ESE swell, with light cross-off wind, is gonna give you the best combination of size and shape. The second best is Saturday 15th August morning – that long-period groundswell is a special thing, even if it’s small. Clean, glassy, and a bit of a treat.
Keep in mind, Tubao can be a little inconsistent, and the long-period swells might break a bit straight, but when it’s clean, it’s a joy.
