The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, let's get into it.
First up, we're looking at a pretty lean stretch for Praia De Piata. The water's sitting at 79°, which is about average for this time of year, so nothin' to worry about there.
The next week and a half is mostly a write-off for any decent surf. The conditions are just ordinary, with a lot of onshore and cross-onshore winds messing things up. The swell is small, generally around 3ft, and the energy is weak, with readings like 261, 248, 194, all under 1000. It's a lot of chop and poor surf. There's a real gap here until we get to the second week.
Now, there is a little glimmer of hope if you're patient. The standout window is Saturday morning, the 15th of August. The swell direction is ESE, but we get a small 2ft bump with a nice long period of 10 seconds. The wind is a light 3 mph from the north, which is a cross-offshore breeze, and it's described as "clean." The combined energy is 211, which is still moderate but the clean conditions are a major plus. The best bet is to get out early that morning, as the afternoon gets messy with onshore winds again.
After that, the swell starts to pulse up a bit more, with energy readings climbing into the 500s and 600s by the 18th and 19th, and heights hitting 6ft to 7ft. But the wind is still cross-on or onshore, so it's gonna be a messy, choppy affair. At that size, with the poor conditions, this spot might be more interesting for the kite surfers than for paddle surfing.
So, in a nutshell: the first week is a dud. The only real standout is that Saturday morning, August 15th. Keep an eye on that, but the rest of the outlook is pretty flat.
Rusty.
