Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight up – it’s gonna be a lean stretch for Tercera Ponte. We’ve got a 16-day window, and for the first few days, don’t even bother paddling out. The surf’s either flat, messy, or the wind’s just plain ugly. The first real glimmer of hope doesn’t show up until Wednesday morning, 8th July, and even then it’s only just surfable.
Overall Pattern
The first week is mostly a write-off. There’s a small SE swell coming in from Wednesday 8th July, but the wind is all over the place – cross-onshore or onshore junk for most of it. The water’s warm at 80°, which is pretty normal for this time of year. The standout in the whole forecast is the Saturday morning of 11th July, and the Sunday morning after that is also worth setting the alarm for. After that, it falls away again into weak, short-period slop and onshores.
Wednesday 8th July – Morning
Finally, something to look at. A clean 2 ft swell from the SSE with a solid 12-second period (groundswell energy at 192). Wind is light offshore from the NNW, so it’ll be glassy and clean. This is surfable but very ordinary. The waves will have some shape, but they’re small. Good for a beginner session.
Thursday 9th July – Morning
Swell lifts a touch to 3 ft from the SSE, period holding at 12 seconds (energy 271). The wind is light cross-shore from the E, which is okay but not perfect. It’s marginal – you might get a couple of fun ones if the tide lines up.
Saturday 11th July – Morning
This is the one. The best swell of the whole outlook. We’ve got a clean 4 ft from the SE with a very long 13-second period (strong energy at 543). Light offshore wind from the NNW. This is going to be proper, clean surf. The longer period means the waves will have good power and shape, but at a beach break like this, it might churn out a bit too straight. Still, with offshore wind, it’ll be well worth it. Expect good crowds though, as this spot often gets busy.
Sunday 12th July – Morning
Not as good as Saturday, but still a solid option. 4 ft from the SE, 12-second period (energy 347). Clean with a light offshore NNW breeze. Good surf conditions. If you missed Saturday, this is your backup.
Wednesday 15th July – Morning
A small 3 ft pulse from the E, but only a 7-second period (weak energy at 75). The wind is offshore from the N, so it’ll be clean and glassy, but the waves will be weak and short. Only worth it if you’re desperate for a splash.
The Second Week
From 16th July onwards, it’s grim. Onshores crank up from the SSE at 15-19 mph, and the swell picks up but it’s all short-period junk (5-7 seconds). The 7 ft on Friday 17th July morning is too big for beginners, and with that wind, it’ll be a washing machine – more for kites than paddles. By 19th July, we’ve got moderate energy (520) but it’s all onshore slop. Not worth it.
So, to sum it up: your best bet is Saturday 11th July morning. That’s the standout. Sunday 12th morning is next best. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too messy. That’s the way it goes sometimes.
Rusty.
