The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s take a good, hard look at what’s coming up for Tercera Ponte.

Overall, this stretch looks like a tough one. We’re going to have a long gap of basically no good surf to start, and the few windows we do get are just barely surfable, not firing by any stretch. The first real recommendation doesn’t come until Saturday the 22nd.

We kick off on Wednesday the 19th with rain showers and a 5ft SE swell, but that 9 mph ESE wind is a cross-onshore mess. The wave energy is moderate (318), but the wind is just chopping it all up.

Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st are more of the same – cross-onshore wind, short 8-second period swells, and “poor” conditions all around. On Friday morning, things look *marginal* with lighter wind, but it’s still a cross-onshore bump. It’s not worth paddling out for.

Saturday, August 22 – The first real chance. The early morning is where it’s at. We’ve got a light 6 mph N wind blowing cross-offshore, which will clean up the 3ft swell from the ESE. The wave energy is weak (98), but the conditions will be clean. It’s small and gutless, but if you’re a beginner wanting to wobble around on a foamie, this is your window. The afternoon goes to sh*t again with a 16 mph cross-shore.

From Sunday the 23rd all the way through to Wednesday the 27th, it’s a brutal run. Wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, the swell drops off to nothing, and conditions range from poor to awful. There’s a cold front coming through on Wednesday the 26th with a very long period 13-second S swell (422 energy), but it’s under rain and 12 mph cross-onshore wind – a total waste of energy.

Thursday, August 27 – A standout morning. It’s late in the window, but this is the best we’ve got. A glassy morning with a light 3 mph N wind. The swell is a measly 3ft from the E, but the clean surface makes it surfable. The wave energy is moderate (161). It’ll be small and weak, but at least you won’t be fighting the wind. For beginners, this is your best bet.

Later, on Friday the 28th morning, we get a 5ft E swell with a 9 mph NE cross-offshore wind, giving clean conditions and moderate wave energy (421). That’s the biggest swell we see for over a week, and it’s rideable, but still not big enough to get excited about.

After that, from the 29th into September, it’s back to the usual story: small swells, crap wind, and “poor” conditions. A few mornings on the 31st and September 1st have clean-ish cross-off breezes, but the swell is under 3ft and weak.

Bottom line: This 16-day outlook is rough. There’s no big swell, no epic day. The best you’ll get is the morning of Thursday August 27 for a glassy, small wave session for the learners, or the morning of Friday August 28 for a slightly bigger but still modest clean surf. Everything else is best spent working on your tan or tuning your board.

This is Rusty, signing off. See you in the water if the wind ever sorts itself out.
