Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barra Vento over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
We’ve only got one spot on the menu for this whole outlook: Barra Vento. It’s an exposed, beginner-friendly break that’s fairly consistent. Water temp is sitting at 26° which is about average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.
The first few days are a bit of a write-off, to be honest. Friday the 10th is a scratch with light cross-onshore wind and only small, weak swell pushing in – combined energy is a mere 370 (moderate) but the conditions are messy, especially by afternoon. The early action on Saturday the 11th though – that’s where you want to be. Saturday morning shapes up nicely, with a glassy surface and a solid SE groundswell coming in at 4ft, period a tasty 13 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 521 (moderate), and the wind is dead calm – pure glass. This is the standout session of the whole run: clean conditions, fun-sized waves, and the swell direction (SE) matches the optimum direction for the break. Just a heads up – the longer period means it’s a proper groundswell, which usually makes for better shaped waves at this exposed spot, though you might get longer lulls between sets. Crowds are rare here, so expect a quiet lineup.
Sunday the 12th morning isn’t bad either: offshore breeze, 3ft SE swell, 12-second period, combined energy 294 – still clean and surfable, just not the same oomph as Saturday. By Sunday afternoon the cross-shore wind picks up and it goes downhill. From Monday the 13th onward, conditions get ordinary pretty quickly. The following days are plagued by cross-onshore or onshore winds, lumpy and choppy surf, and energy drops off. We get a few pulses of bigger swell around Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th, but the wind is straight onshore at 15-22 mph, making a mess of things even when the swell hits 7ft and energy jumps to 655. That’s a lot of power, but without clean wind, you’re looking at walls of whitewater – not a paddle surfer’s friend. In fact, that kind of setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than a traditional paddle session.
The surf goes flat and weak for several days midweek, then Thursday the 23rd morning shows some promise again – glassy conditions return, 4ft SE swell, 8-second period, combined energy 300. It’s a short-period swell, but with glass and no wind it’ll be fun and clean for a beginner-friendly wave. That’s a solid second option, but nothing beats the Saturday the 11th morning session.
So to sum it up: if you can get out there on Saturday the 11th morning, that’s your best bet. Clean, glassy, solid chest-high groundswell, and you’ll have the place pretty much to yourself. Sunday morning is worth a look too if you missed it, but after that, it’s a long wait until the 23rd for another clean shot.
Stay stoked, Rusty.
