The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Honestly, looking at the next 16 days, we’ve got a long wait for anything proper. The surf is pretty flat for the first six days. Saturday the 18th offers a tiny 2ft swell from the SE, but it’s weak with only 79 combined energy. You could get a surfable wave but it’s very ordinary. The glassy wind is nice, but it’s barely a wave. Sunday through to Thursday the 24th sees next to nothing – mostly 0.7ft to 1ft junk. A real lull.
Then we get a notable spike on Friday the 24th at Laranjeiras. All of a sudden, the swell comes up to 5ft from the S, with combined energy jumping to 289. The early morning is glassy, and the afternoon brings a clean offshore from the E. This is your standout moment. The swell is solid, with a short period of 8 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly, but the conditions will be clean. For beginners, 5ft is right on the edge, so be smart. The water temp is about 71°, which feels normal for the time of year. Crowds are sometimes here, so you might have company.
The rest of the period is a mixed bag. Saturday the 25th drops to 3ft, still rideable but ordinary. Sunday the 26th is messy with cross-onshore wind. There’s a late pulse on the 1st of August with 4ft from the S, but the wind is cross-on that afternoon. The energy is solid at 188, but the wind kills it. After that, the swell fades again into small, clean but weak surf.
The best call is clear: Friday the 24th. Get on it early for the glassy conditions.
Rusty out.
