Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag ahead for Laranjeiras, but there’s some real beauty to look forward to if you’re patient. Right now, Friday morning, it’s glassy with a tiny 0.5m south swell and only weak energy (58) – not enough to get excited about. The afternoon turns choppy with onshore wind and messy 0.3m waves… definitely a day to sit out.
Saturday the 4th is where things wake up. Morning brings a clean 1.6m south swell at 10 seconds, with cross-offshore wind and strong energy (787). Conditions are good for a beginner-friendly break, but keep in mind this spot is only fairly consistent. Crowds can show up sometimes. Sunday the 5th has consistent 1.8m swell from the south (period 12 seconds) and moderate wave energy (902), but the wind is cross-onshore so it’ll be a little bumpy – still rideable, just not perfect.
Monday the 6th is a standout: offshore wind all day, with a 1.5m south swell in the morning. The afternoon drops to 1.3m but the period lengthens to 11 seconds, giving it better shape and energy (563). Clean, lined-up waves – this is one of the best windows in the near term.
We hit a quiet patch from Tuesday the 7th through Thursday the 10th. Swells drop to around 1.0m or less with mostly light cross-onshore or glassy conditions – good for a longboard or a paddle, but nothing pumping.
Another highlight lands on Saturday the 11th afternoon: the swell goes east-southeast at 0.8m but with a very long 13-second period for such small size, and glassy conditions. Energy is moderate (461). The punch is in the period here, so expect smooth, clean lines.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th get messy with stronger winds and onshore junk – skip those.
Now, the big standout is Tuesday the 14th of July. Morning glass – calm, zero wind – with a solid 1.7m south swell at 13 seconds, strong energy (1006). This groundswell will have real power and shape. It’s best at Laranjeiras because it’s a beach break but the long period and offshore conditions will keep it from closing out too much. Tuesday afternoon is nearly as good, with 1.6m and clean cross-offshore wind. This is the best two-session day of the whole forecast.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th stay clean with offshore winds and 1.2m to 1.8m south swells, energy staying strong (up to 872). Friday the 17th has another clean run – 1.4m to 1.7m with offshore breeze and energy up to 815. Saturday the 18th wraps it up beautifully: glassy morning, 1.9m south swell at 11 seconds, 950 energy, then an afternoon offshore with 1.8m at a long 13 seconds and over 1133 energy. That Saturday is serious – maybe too much for beginners (over 1.5m all day), but for the experienced crowd, it’s going to be epic.
Water temperature is 23° – a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might get away with a spring suit.
Overall, the best days are Saturday July 4th morning, Monday July 6th, Tuesday July 14th as your true standout, and Friday July 17th through Saturday July 18th. The consistent south swell and frequent offshore/glassy windows keep hope alive. Even with the slow days mid-week, it doesn’t stay flat long here.
Rusty out.
