The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s get into it.
Alright, look – the next few days are pretty quiet for Laranjeiras. This is a beginner-friendly, fairly consistent spot that’s fairly exposed to the swell, and it likes S direction swell. There’s a bit of a lull coming up, so don’t expect much action until the end of the first week.
Wednesday the 15th is the best we’ve got early on. It’s a standout for the near term. Wednesday morning brings a solid 6ft swell from the SE, with a period of 10 seconds, and a clean NE offshore breeze of 9 mph. The water is sitting at 71°, which is about normal for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (678). It’s a great paddle-out for a beginner, and the offshore wind will keep it glassy. Crowds are possible here, so get in early. Wednesday afternoon drops a bit to 5ft but still clean with an E wind. That’s still good.
Thursday the 16th morning is smaller at 4ft, but the wind is near glassy from the NE at 3 mph – clean and fun for a learner. Afternoon, it drops right off to 0.3ft, not worth the paddle.
From Friday the 17th through to Tuesday the 22nd, we’re looking at tiny, weak surf – mostly under 3ft, with periods under 12 seconds, and combined energy mostly under 100. It’s a real flat spell. The winds are light, often glassy or cross-off, but there’s just no push. This gap lasts about 5 days with nothing recommended.
Then Wednesday the 22nd afternoon and Thursday the 23rd morning offer a little bump – 1.0ft or so – but still very weak. Not worth getting wet for.
Friday the 24th shows a bit more life: 3ft from the SSE with a period of 11 seconds, and glassy conditions in the morning. Energy is moderate (156). It’s ordinary, but if you’re desperate, it’s surfable.
Saturday the 25th morning is glassy and 2ft, but the afternoon swings to a cross-on SSW wind at 9 mph, making it choppy. Skip it.
Sunday the 26th is marginal with light rain and 3ft to 4ft from the S, period 11 seconds, and cross-off wind. The energy jumps to 522 in the morning, but it’s not clean enough to get excited about.
Now here’s the real standout – Monday the 27th. Morning brings 4ft from the S, period 12 seconds, with a clean offshore ENE wind at 9 mph. Combined energy is 461 – moderate. This is your best bet for the whole outlook. The afternoon holds similar size and quality, with a moderate offshore E breeze. It’s a long period swell (12 seconds), so it’ll have some shape and energy, but at a beach break like this, it might wall up a bit. Still, for a beginner, that’s solid.
Tuesday the 28th is also strong: 4ft to 4ft, period up to 14 seconds, and glassy in the morning. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-off breeze. Energy is 663 in the afternoon – moderate to strong. This is another top pick for the second week, though it’s a bit further out, so less certain.
The following days into the end of the month fade back to smaller, weaker surf, with the last decent window being Wednesday the 29th morning at 4ft and clean. After that, it’s back to 3ft and ordinary.
Rusty.
