Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, grab a coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s have a proper look at the coming swell window for Barrinha, in Vitoria. This forecast is a bit of a slow burner, but there’s a real gem hiding in the second week if you’ve got the patience.
The water temperature is sitting right on average for the time of year, around 75°, so nothing unusual there – just standard tropical comfort.
The first few days are nothing to write home about. The week starts off with a weak, short-period SSE swell on Sunday the 5th, barely 2ft, and the wind is howling straight out of the south at 16 mph. The combined energy is a measly 168, so it’s a write-off. Monday the 6th offers a brief pulse of 5ft S swell in the morning, but the wind is cross-off, and the reading is marginal. The rest of that week is a mix of onshore winds and poor conditions. You’ll be waiting through a few days of flat, choppy nonsense.
Things start to look up on the morning of Wednesday the 8th. The wind goes light and offshore from the S, and the swell climbs to a clean 3ft from the SE, with a moderate energy reading of 268. It’s surfable, but nothing special. Thursday the 9th is similar, with 4-4ft SE swell and light cross-off breezes.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The real standout, and the best on offer by a long shot, is Thursday the 16th of July. Saturday the 11th is actually a sneaky good little session too. On Saturday morning, the wind drops to dead glassy – zero mph from the SE – with a 3ft, 13-second ESE groundswell. The energy is a solid 362, and it’ll be super clean. It’s a bit small, but it’s the pick of the first week.
But the big one is Thursday the 16th. We’ve got a solid 5ft SSE swell rolling in with a very long 14-second period. The combined energy jumps to 874 – that’s strong wave energy. The wind is a light, cross-off SSW breeze, so the conditions will be excellent. Because it’s such a long-period groundswell, it’s best suited to Barrinha’s setup, which is fairly exposed to the south. This is a session for the intermediate crew. Fair warning: it can get crowded here sometimes, so get in early.
The following morning, Friday the 17th, is also a cracker. The swell holds at 5ft from the SE, the period is still a meaty 13 seconds, and the wind goes glassy out of the SW. Another 780 energy reading. That’s a back-to-back treat for the dedicated.
After that, it fades. The weekend of the 18th and 19th sees the wind swing onshore again, and the swell drops off. The 20th of July has a 4-5ft pulse, but it’s a short-period, wind-affected mess.
So, the long and short of it: don’t bother with the first week. Wait for Saturday the 11th for a small, glassy session, but the absolute standout is Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th. That’s the real deal. Long-range, so keep an eye on it, but it looks promising.
