Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barrinha over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
The outlook starts on Thursday 9th July with a small window of alright waves, but after that, it’s a long, dry spell. The real potential is in that first session, and then we’re looking at a gap of poor conditions that stretches for days.
Barrinha (Vitoria) is the only spot on the radar, and it’s a fairly consistent, intermediate-level beach break. The water is sitting at 75°F, which is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The standout window is Thursday afternoon, 9th July. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell rolling in from the SE, with a solid 11-second period – that’s proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is a solid moderate 386, so there’s some push behind it. The wind is a gentle offshore breeze from the SSE, keeping things clean. This is a good chance to get a few well-shaped ones. The break is fairly exposed to the SE swell, so it should be lining up nicely.
Friday the 10th goes downhill fast. Morning is onshore and messy, and by the afternoon it’s a choppy cross-on mess with 15 mph winds. Forget it.
Saturday morning, 11th July is your next, and maybe only other, real highlight. The wind drops to glassy, dead calm from the north, with the same 4ft SE swell, but the period drops to 13 seconds – still a nice long groundswell. The energy is moderate at 425. It’s going to be clean and lined up, but the crowds are listed as “sometimes,” so expect company.
After that, it’s a brutal run. From Sunday 12th July all the way through to Friday 24th July, the conditions are poor. The swell drops right off, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-on, and the period goes short and weak. There’s a brief moment on Wednesday 15th July morning with glassy conditions and 3ft swell, but it’s very ordinary. The energy is weak at 200. Not worth getting excited about.
From the 14th onwards, the swell direction shifts to the east, and the period drops to 8 seconds or less – that’s short-period wind swell, weak and choppy. The combined energy is often under 200, and the wind is consistently ruining it. Even the bigger pulses around 5ft on the 18th and 21st are just messy, choppy, cross-on junk. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, to be honest.
So, the call is simple: Thursday afternoon 9th July is the best on offer, followed by Saturday morning 11th July. After that, we’re in for a long, flat, and choppy stretch. It’s one of those times where the forecast can change, but for now, don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
