Table - best surf conditions forecast for Velzyland over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's going on at Velzyland over the next couple of weeks.
Bottom line up front: it’s a slow start and a bit of a mixed bag. We’re looking at a lot of ordinary conditions with a rough, choppy paddle most afternoons. The water temp's sitting at a typical 74.3°, so nothing weird for this time of year. The first real standout is a long way off, so patience is the name of the game.
The first few days are pretty grim. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are basically a write-off. The swell is small to moderate, around 3.9ft to 5.6ft from the S, but the wind’s a problem. You’ve got a moderate to fresh cross-shore breeze that’s just mucking up the surface with a lumpy cross-chop. The wave energy is weak to moderate (196 to 312) but the conditions are just poor. Not worth the wetsuit rub.
Wednesday the 15th sees a bit of a shift. Swell drops a hair to 4.9ft-5.2ft, but the direction swings SE with a period bumping up to 11 seconds – that’s a bit more groundswell character. The wind goes light and even comes onshore, which isn't ideal but with only light air it's manageable. The wave energy is moderate (585). The forecast still calls it marginal, so it’s not a standout, but it’s the first time you could possibly get a couple if you’re desperate.
Now, Thursday the 16th morning is where we get a little glimmer. Swell is 4.6ft from the SE with an 11-second period, and the wind goes glassy – dead calm, zero mph. That’s about as clean as it gets. Wave energy is moderate (431). That window on Thursday morning is the best of the first week for sure, but the afternoon gets ruined by a moderate onshore breeze again.
Friday the 17th morning also shapes up decent with a light cross-offshore breeze cleaning up 4.3ft SE swell, but it’s a similar story: good morning, blown-out afternoon. The rest of the week and into the next (19th to 25th July) is just small, weak surf. Swell drops under 3.3ft, periods are short (7 seconds) or long but small, and the energy is weak to moderate (90 to 177). The winds are mostly cross-off in the mornings, giving clean but tiny waves. Sunday the 19th morning and Tuesday the 21st morning are 'surfable but very ordinary'.
The Real Standout
Alright, here’s the one you’ve been waiting for. Mark your calendars for Tuesday the 28th of July. This is the big one. We’ve got a solid pulse of swell coming in at 7.2ft from the ESE. The period is short (8 seconds), which means it’ll be a bit crumbly, but the wave energy is through the roof (1411). The wind is light from the NNW, giving you a nice cross-offshore breeze that will keep the faces clean. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers (7.2ft is getting big), and the conditions are set to be primo that morning. The afternoon gets a little dicey again with a cross-onshore, so get your session in early. This is the true highlight of the entire outlook.
So to wrap it up: a whole lot of nothing for a while, then a killer Tuesday morning on the 28th. Don't sleep on it.
