Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Velzyland over the next couple of weeks. It’s a bit of a mixed bag, so you’ll need to pick your moments.
The overall pattern is pretty frustrating. We’ve got a solid run of onshore and cross-shore winds that are going to butcher most of the swell. There’s a gap of a few days at the start where the surf is just not worth it, and then a few windows where the wind and swell line up, giving us some clean, grovelly little waves. The real standout is looking like a very specific, glassy morning on the very last day of the forecast.
Let’s start with the first half of the week. Monday the 6th is a write-off. The swell is there, with a 5ft South swell (moderate energy of 756), but the 9 mph cross-shore wind is going to chop it up. By the afternoon, it drops to a tiny 2ft and has gone cross-onshore. Not worth a look.
Tuesday the 7th morning is where it gets interesting. The wind swings to a light northerly, giving us a sweet cross-offshore breeze. The swell is a clean 3ft from the SSE with an 11-second period and moderate energy (300). The water temp is about average for this time of year. This is a solid little window for a paddle. Crowds are possible here, so get in early. The afternoon, however, gets ruined by a 19 mph NE cross-shore wind.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are messy with cross-shore and cross-onshore winds, and the swell is only around 3ft to 4ft. The conditions are just too choppy to be fun.
Now for the standout. Friday the 10th morning, a north wind gives us a clean cross-offshore breeze again. The swell is 3ft from the ESE, but check out the period: 14 seconds! That’s a proper groundswell, with moderate energy (420). This is the best looking session of the first week. The long period will make the waves at this reef break (Velzyland) shape up nicely, with more power and those longer waits between sets. It’s a bit of a local spot, so crowds are possible.
The weekend of the 12th and 13th stays small, with the morning winds staying clean but the swell dropping to 3ft and then 2ft. You’ll be hunting for a ripple, but it’s surfable.
The second week is a bit of a write-off. From the 14th to the 20th, we’re looking at a constant barrage of onshore and cross-shore winds from the SSW and SE, with a couple of windswell spikes that are just too junky. The swell on the 14th is 5ft from the S, but with a 7-second period and 19 mph winds, it’s a washing machine. Not worth it.
The final, and maybe the best, wildcard. Tuesday the 21st morning. The wind drops to dead calm. Glassy. The swell is 5ft from the ESE with a 9-second period and moderate energy (342). That rare, inconsistent break might just fire. It’s a long way out, so treat it as a promising tip, not a guarantee. If the glass holds, this could be the best day of the whole run.
Stay sharp, and don’t sleep on that Friday the 10th morning.
Rusty.
