Barrao Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what’s on the cards for the Barrao region over the next couple of weeks.

First up, we’ve got a pretty quiet stretch ahead. For the rest of this week and into the start of next week, it’s a bit of a write-off. The swell is tiny, the wind is all over the place, and we’re looking at a lot of poor surf conditions. There’s a patch around Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th where you’ll see some surfable but very ordinary conditions with waves around 2ft to 3ft from the east, but honestly, it’s nothing to get excited about. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.

Now, hold onto your boards, because things start to look up on Saturday the 1st of August. We’ve got a proper pulse of energy coming in. The morning of the 1st is looking like a real standout. The swell will be a solid 6ft from the east-southeast, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is glassy – calm, flat conditions – and that’s a massive plus. The combined energy is a strong 703, so there’s plenty of push. The wave comment says "expect very good surf conditions," and I’m feeling that. This is the best on offer for the whole outlook.

Sunday the 2nd of August keeps the vibe going. The morning sees a 7ft swell from the southeast, with a cross-off breeze from the north. The combined energy jumps to 891 – that’s solid, moderate-to-strong energy. The waves will be clean and punchy. This is another top-tier session. Just a heads up: for the afternoon of the 2nd, the swell drops a touch to 6ft and the wind picks up to a moderate offshore from the northeast, which will still be clean but a bit more wind-affected.

The 3rd of August offers more waves, but it’s a step down. The swell settles around 4ft from the east, and the wind stays cross-off in the morning and offshore in the afternoon. It’s clean, but the energy is lower (353-432), so it’s more of a fun, mellow day than a standout.

Now, here’s the big one. On the 5th of August, we get a massive groundswell. The combined energy readings are off the charts: 2033 in the morning and 1772 in the afternoon. That’s very strong wave energy. The swell is 7ft in the morning, dropping to 7ft in the afternoon, coming from the east-southeast with a very long period of 14 seconds. This is a serious groundswell. The wind is a bit tricky in the morning – a light cross-on from the south – so expect some chop. But the afternoon of the 5th is the real highlight: a clean cross-off from the east with excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers. This is big, powerful, and long-period. It’s going to be best for the rippers out there, as the 7ft+ size and long period will make it heavy. The 6th of August still has good energy (1205) with a 6ft swell and offshore winds from the northeast, keeping it clean.

So, to wrap it up: the best windows are the morning of the 1st of August with that glassy, 6ft swell, and the afternoon of the 5th of August for the big, powerful groundswell. The rest of the window is either flat or for the more experienced surfers only.
