Table - best surf conditions forecast for Geriba over the next 16 days.
Right then, folks. Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for Geriba. It’s a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, but there are a few sessions that’ll get the heart pumping.
The first week is a slow burn, with a lot of poor and marginal conditions. But hang in there, because the end of the week and the second week have some real promise, although we have to be patient.
Things are looking pretty average to start. The water is at 73.4°, which is about normal for this time of year, so no wetsuit dramas there. Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are a write-off with onshore winds and poor surf, so don’t even bother. Thursday the 9th is only marginal at best. The first real glimmer comes on Friday the 10th. The morning session is a standout. We’ve got a moderate offshore wind from the NNE, a clean 3.9ft swell from the SE, and a very long period of 14 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy, and the combined energy is a solid moderate 569. The long period means it might be a bit straight for a beach break, but it’ll have power and shape. This is the best on offer for the first week. The afternoon is clean but more marginal.
Saturday the 11th is back to choppy onshore slop. Sunday the 12th afternoon cleans up with a cross-offshore breeze and a clean 2.6ft SE swell (period 12 seconds), making for a good, fun-sized session. Then, Monday the 13th morning is another real standout. A light offshore breeze from the north, a 4.3ft S swell at 12 seconds, and a combined energy of 544. It’s clean, it's got push, and it's a proper window of quality before the onshore winds kick in again.
After that, the middle of the week is a bit of a dead zone until Wednesday the 15th morning. Another strong contender: a moderate offshore from the NE, a 3.9ft SSE groundswell with a 13-second period, and 511 combined energy. Clean, lined-up waves. The rest of that week is a mix of marginal and ordinary.
Now, looking into the second week, the outlook gets more promising but less certain. Saturday the 19th morning is worth circling on the calendar. A moderate offshore from the NNE, a small but clean 2.6ft SE swell with a 12-second period, but get this – the combined energy is a massive 603. That’s a lot of grunt for a small wave, indicating a powerful pulse. The crowd will likely be there, but the quality is on.
The real heavyweight comes on Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd. Tuesday morning sees a solid 7.5ft SE swell with a 10-second period and combined energy of 1184, which is strong. This is going to be big and powerful. The afternoon is similar with 6.9ft and 1306 energy. This is for experienced surfers only; it’s too big for beginners. The winds are cross-offshore so it should be clean. Wednesday morning holds a 4.9ft ESE swell with offshore winds. This entire period from the 21st is the most exciting, but with it being over a week away, treat it as a promising but not guaranteed situation.
So, to wrap it up: the standout session for the first week is Friday 10th July morning for the quality of the groundswell, and the clear pick for the second week is the big swell around Tuesday 21st July, keeping in mind it’s a heavy one.
Stay frothy.
