The Lowdown
Alright mates, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s headed our way for the next two weeks.
Don’t bother paddling out this first week. From Friday the 17th right through to Thursday the 24th, it’s a flat, windy mess. The swell is tiny, and the wind is a fresh 19-22 mph breeze from the NE, making it messy. Just a dead spell.
We finally see a pulse on Friday the 24th, with a 3ft S swell, but the conditions are still ordinary. Not worth a trip.
The real action kicks off Saturday the 25th. Geriba gets a glassy, calm morning with a 3ft S swell (period 11 seconds) and moderate energy. The wind is dead calm, so the waves will be clean. It’s a beginner-friendly wave, so a good one to get back into it. Water temp is about normal for this time of year.
Now, Sunday the 26th of July is the one to circle. The morning is the winner. A solid 7ft S groundswell with a long 13-second period, pumping out very strong energy. The wind is a whisper from the WNW at just 3 mph, making it glassy. This is "excellent for experienced surfers," so it’s too big for beginners. If you’ve got the experience, this is the best session of the whole forecast. The afternoon gets a bit onshore, so get in early.
The swell sticks around. Monday the 27th still has a 5ft S swell, but with a moderate breeze, it’s not as clean.
The big one is Thursday the 30th of July. The morning is looking massive with a 10ft S swell (period 14 seconds) and a colossal 3817 combined energy. That’s a powerful, serious swell. The wind is a gentle 9 mph offshore breeze from the ENE keeping it clean. This is expert-only territory. If you’re not comfortable in waves over 8ft, stay on the beach. This is a heavy, long-period groundswell.
Friday the 31st holds at 7ft from the S, still clean in the morning. Saturday the 1st of August finishes with an 8ft SSE swell and glassy offshore winds.
So, the first week is a total washout. The second week is where the magic is. Sunday the 26th morning is the best all-rounder, but the big days on the 30th and 31st are for the hardcore crew only.
Rusty.
