The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking at Geriba for the next couple of weeks.
Right now, the truth is, we’re in a flat spell. The first few days are a write-off with tiny, weak swells and nothing to ride. You’re looking at a gap of about three days of poor surf conditions before we start to see some life in the water.
The first real chance to get wet comes Sunday, the 23rd of August. The morning will be the pick of a very average day, with a 4ft SSW swell and a light cross-offshore ENE breeze, keeping things clean. The wave energy is moderate (299). It’s nothing to write home about, but it’s a surfable start for beginners.
The standout period, and I mean the real highlight, is from Wednesday, the 26th of August, through Thursday, the 27th of August. This is where it gets good for the experienced crew. On Wednesday morning, we’ve got a solid 6ft south swell, with a period of 13 seconds, and a light offshore NE breeze. That’s clean, that’s powerful, and the combined energy is strong (1886). The afternoon holds steady at 7ft. Then Thursday morning is the absolute gem – the wind goes glassy, dead calm, with a 6ft SSE swell and a long 14-second period. The water is a bit above average for the time of year, typical for this spot. For a beach break, that long period can make things a little straight, but with that glassy surface, it’ll be well worth the paddle out. The wave energy is very strong (1664). This is the one to circle.
By Friday the 28th, the swell is easing back down to 4ft, still clean but dropping off. After that, we trail off into tiny surf again through the start of September. There’s a small pulse of short-period swell showing up on the 3rd of September, but the wind is not on our side, so it’s a long shot.
So, bottom line: the first few days are a flat-out bust. The best of the best is the glassy Thursday morning on the 27th of August – that’s your moment.
Rusty.
