The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Geriba in feet and miles per hour.
Right now, we’re in a bit of a flat spell. The surf is pretty much non-existent through Tuesday the 14th and into the first part of the week. Tuesday morning is a write-off with rain showers and a messy 5ft cross-onshore swell from the S. It’s choppy and not worth paddling out. The afternoon is even worse – 7ft but poor conditions. Honestly, just leave the board in the car.
Then we get a glimmer. Wednesday the 15th morning is the standout. The wind swings offshore from the NE, and we’ve got a clean 6ft SSE swell with a solid 11-second period. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual. The combined energy is moderate (724), and the conditions are genuinely good. This is the one to aim for. Geriba is a consistent beginner-friendly break, and with offshore wind, it’ll be clean and fun. Crowds are often here, so expect company.
Wednesday afternoon drops off a bit – the wind goes cross-offshore and picks up to 15 mph, and the swell period drops to 10 seconds. It’s surfable but not as good as the morning.
Thursday the 16th morning still has offshore wind at 22 mph, but the swell is dropping to 5ft from the SE. The energy is fading (520), and the wave comment says marginal. A decent session if you’re keen, but not a standout.
From Thursday afternoon onward, it’s a slow decline. By Friday the 17th, the swell is down to 4ft, and the energy is weak (301). The wind is still offshore, but the waves are small and weak. The weekend looks flat – 1ft on Sunday, just tiny windswell. The combined energy drops to 54. It’s a dead period.
There’s a gap of no real surf from Saturday the 19th all the way through Wednesday the 23rd. The waves are tiny, mostly under 2ft, and the energy is below 100. Not worth getting wet.
Now, things start to look up again on Thursday the 23rd. The morning is ordinary – a 5ft SSW windswell with a short 5-second period (weak energy at 171). But the afternoon session improves: a 6ft S swell, period 7 seconds, clean conditions with light cross-offshore wind at 9 mph. The combined energy is moderate (325). This is a solid option for a late session.
Friday the 24th morning is another good call. The swell holds at 5ft from the S, with an 8-second period, and the wind is offshore from the NNE at 12 mph. The energy is moderate (365), and the conditions are clean. It’s a good bet.
Saturday the 25th morning is a wildcard. The swell is 5ft from the ESE with a short 7-second period, but the energy is surprisingly high (602). The wind is strong offshore from the NE at 22 mph. It’s going to be clean but a bit tricky with the short period. Might be okay for a strong paddle.
After that, the surf fades out again through the end of the month. Sunday the 26th and Monday the 27th have small, weak swells and strong winds. The energy is low, and the conditions are poor. Not worth chasing.
Bottom line: Wednesday the 15th morning is the best session on offer. Clean, offshore, and a solid 6ft SSE swell. After that, Thursday the 23rd afternoon and Friday the 24th morning are decent backups. The rest of the period is mostly flat or marginal.
