The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for Jacaraipe over the next couple of weeks. It’s gonna be a slow burn, so don’t rush for your board just yet.
The first few days are a write-off. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are a mess of cross-shore and onshore winds with choppy, lumpy surf that’s just not worth paddling out for. Monday the 24th isn’t much better, with weak, poor conditions.
Then things finally turn around. The standout window kicks off on Tuesday the 25th of August. That morning, the wind drops to dead glassy calm, and we’ve got a nice 3ft SSE swell rolling in with a period of 15 seconds. The energy is moderate (530), but it’s gonna feel clean, lined up, and way more inviting than anything before it. That’s your best early bet.
But the real highlight? Wednesday the 26th of August. Morning session is the one. Glassy conditions again, no wind, and the swell jumps to 4ft from the SSE, but the period stretches out to a very long 17 seconds. The energy is strong (1051). This is groundswell with real push and shape. At a sandbar break like this, that long period can make the waves stand up a bit more vertical and hollow, so keep your wits about you. It’s not a beginner wave that morning – it’s for the experienced crew who know how to handle a longer gap between sets.
Thursday the 27th holds a similar pulse, with a 5ft SSE swell (1155 energy) and clean cross-off winds in the morning. Still solid, still for experienced surfers. But the wind cranks up by the afternoon, so the window is tight.
After that, we hit a long dry spell. From the 28th of August all the way through to the 3rd of September, it’s mostly cross winds, fresh breezes, and onshore junk that’s either lumpy or just poor surf. There’s a quick glance of glassy conditions again on the 3rd of September in the morning, with a 5ft S swell, but the period is short at 6 seconds, so it’s not going to have much grunt or shape. Feels more like a soft bump than a real session.
There’s a little flicker of hope on the 5th of September morning – glassy, 4ft ENE swell with moderate energy (301) – but by then we’re talking nearly two weeks out, so keep that one in the back of your mind but don’t lock in plans.
Overall, if you’re around Jacaraipe, the absolute peak is Wednesday the 26th of August morning. Tuesday the 25th morning is also a beauty for clean, fun waves. The rest of the run is either blown out or flat, so pick your moment.
Rusty.
