The Lowdown
Right, grab a coffee, sit down. Rusty here, and I’ve got the skinny on the next couple of weeks for your local sandbar. Honestly, the first week or so is a bit of a write-off. There’s a proper ugly stretch from now, through the 18th, right up until the 24th of August where there’s just nothing doing. You’re looking at a solid week-plus of no-go surf.
The action, if you can call it that, doesn’t really stir until Monday the 25th of August. But even then, it’s just a whisper. A couple of pulses of longer-period groundswell start showing up, but they’re weak and the conditions are just “marginal” at best.
The standout, the one that actually looks worth paddling out for, is on Wednesday morning the 26th of August at Jacaraipe. You’ll be looking at a clean, 4ft swell coming out of the SSE with a lovely period of 14 seconds – that’s a real groundswell. The wind is a light offshore from the north, so it’ll be glassy and clean. The combined wave energy is moderate at 572, but the clean conditions are the real selling point here. This is your best bet.
After that, Thursday morning the 27th of August offers a little more size, with a 5ft SSE swell (15-second period) and clean cross-offshore winds from the north. The energy is strong at 1012, so there’s some push, but it’s still rated as marginal. It’s a close second.
The crowd factor? At Jacaraipe, it can get busy "sometimes", so if you’re out on that Wednesday morning, you might have company. The water temp is sitting at 73°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no wetsuit worries.
But listen, for the rest of the month and into September, it’s a flat, windy mess. The week of August 28th to September 2nd is just blown-out junk and tiny leftovers. Don’t hold your breath.
Stay keen, check the charts, and I’ll see you out there on the 26th if the wind holds.
Rusty.
