The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Jacaraipe over the next couple of weeks.
First thing you need to know: this is a sandbar break, pretty exposed, so it catches most of what’s out there. The water temp is sitting at 75°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there.
But honestly, the next few days are a tough watch. Monday afternoon through to Tuesday is all cross-shore winds and lumpy, poor surf. The swell’s there—around 7ft to 8ft from the south—but the period’s short, around 8 seconds, and the wind is a fresh 19 mph cross-shore. It’s messy. Wave energy is moderate (618 to 721), but it’s not doing you any favours. This is more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session.
Wednesday morning cleans up a little with a light cross-onshore breeze and a 6ft SE swell, period bumping up to 11 seconds, energy at 827. Still, it’s only marginal. Wednesday afternoon the wind turns offshore, but the swell drops to 6ft and the score’s still low.
Now, Thursday morning 16 July – that’s your first real standout. Glassy conditions, light ENE breeze at 3 mph, 5ft SE swell with an 11-second period, and wave energy at 601. The wind is dead calm, the surface is clean, and the swell has some shape. This is the best session of the week. If you can get out early, do it.
Friday morning 17 July is also decent – clean conditions with a light cross-offshore N wind, 5ft SE swell, 11 seconds, energy at 609. It’s a smaller, cleaner day compared to Thursday morning, but still very good.
Saturday and Sunday mornings are okay but not as good. Saturday 18 July morning has a 4ft ESE swell, 10 seconds, clean with a light cross-offshore, but energy drops to 347. Sunday 19 July morning is even smaller, 4ft from the east, only 7 seconds, energy at 192. It’s surfable but ordinary.
The middle of next week, around Wednesday 22 July and Thursday 23 July mornings, shows some promise. Wednesday morning has a 4ft E swell, 8 seconds, clean with a light cross-offshore, energy at 278. Thursday morning is glassy, no wind, a 5ft S swell, 7 seconds, energy at 353. Both are good small-wave options.
Then into the second week, things get a bit more interesting. Friday 24 July morning has a tiny 2ft SSE swell, but with a 12-second period and clean conditions – that long period will give you some fun little lines, but it’s small. Saturday 25 July morning has a 3ft SSE swell, 12 seconds, energy at 416, but it’s only marginal. Sunday 26 July is wet with light rain and a 5ft ESE swell, 8 seconds, energy at 628 – but it’s cross-onshore and choppy.
Monday 27 July morning is clean again, with a 5ft ESE swell, 8 seconds, energy at 403, and a light cross-offshore wind. That’s a decent pick for the second week. Tuesday 28 July morning is also clean, 5ft from the east, 8 seconds, energy at 356, but the wind is a moderate 12 mph cross-offshore.
Overall, the standout is Thursday 16 July morning – glassy, clean, 5ft SE swell with 11 seconds. That’s the one. Friday 17 July morning is a close second. The rest is small or wind-affected, but there are enough clean windows to get wet.
Rusty out.
