Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's going on at Jacaraipe over the next couple weeks. It's a mixed bag, but there's some good juice if you time it right.
The first worth-getting-wet wave shows up on Tuesday, July 7th. Jacaraipe is a sandbar, exposed to the swell and fairly consistent. Tuesday morning is the first real standout. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the north at about 6 mph, and the wave energy is in the moderate range (567). We're looking at clean, 4 ft surf from the SSE with a period around 11 seconds – that's a proper groundswell. The water temp is about average for the time of year. Tuesday afternoon goes downhill as the wind swings NE and picks up, so hit it early.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th you can sleep in. Onshore winds and a cross-chop make the surf messy. There's about a two-day gap of average to poor conditions.
Now, Friday the 10th of July. That's the one to mark. Early morning we get glassy conditions – dead calm wind from the SW at about 3 mph. The swell is a very long-period 4 ft from the ESE with a 14-second interval, and the energy is solidly moderate-to-strong (666). This is clean, lined-up groundswell for that sandbar. Saturday the 11th morning is also a ripper: clear skies, a light north breeze making it cross-off, and a 5 ft SE groundswell at 13 seconds. Energy is strong at 618. These two mornings are your best bets in the first week.
The second week is more hit-and-miss. Sunday the 12th is okay but windier. Monday the 13th afternoon has a tiny, glassy 2 ft wave – okay for a longboard. The real standout in week two is Friday morning, July 17th. Clean cross-off breeze from the north, with a 6 ft ESE swell at 11 seconds. That's a solid moderate wave with energy hitting 747 – the biggest and most powerful clean swell of the whole outlook. Saturday the 18th morning is also clean at 6 ft, but the energy is a touch lower. After that it fades into smaller, wind-blown junk.
So, if you're booking time off: Friday July 10th morning and Friday July 17th morning are your standouts. Go get it before the wind messes it up.
Rusty.
