The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get stuck into what’s cooking for Jacaraipe over the next 16 days.
Right off the bat, I’ll be straight with you: the first week and a half is a real struggle. We’ve got a heap of days where the wind is just chewing things up. The best window we’re looking at is a long way off, around Sunday the 2nd of August, but it’s got potential.
The surf for the first week is mostly small, around 3ft to 5ft, but it’s plagued by cross-onshore and onshore winds from the ENE and NE, making it choppy and messy. The combined swell energy is mostly weak to moderate (values between 118 and 276). The water temp is sitting at 73°F, which is just about average for this spot at this time of year, so no surprises there.
There’s a couple of mornings that look clean, like Monday the 20th and Wednesday the 22nd, with light cross-offshore winds. But the swell is still short-period (8 seconds) and small, so it’s only really a go-out for a beginner wanting a splash. The sandbar at Jacaraipe is a beginner-friendly spot, so that fits.
Now, the real buzz is for Sunday the 2nd of August. We’ve got a solid 6ft groundswell from the SE with a very long period of 14 seconds. That’s proper energy, with a combined swell energy reading of 1590 (strong). The wind is forecast to be a clean cross-offshore from the N in the morning. This is a standout. The long period means the waves will have shape and power, but for a beach/sandbar setup like Jacaraipe, it might break a bit too straight – still, it’s the best window we’ve got. This one is for the experienced crew; 5ft+ is a bit much for beginners.
After that, Monday the 3rd of August still has some decent energy hanging around at 4ft from the SE with a 13-second period, but the wind shifts cross-on in the afternoon, so get your session in early.
The long-range stuff is promising but not locked in. The 17-second period on the 1st of August is a tease, but the wind is howling onshore, so don’t get your hopes up for that one.
Right now, the only true standout is the morning of Sunday the 2nd of August. Mark it.
Rusty.
