The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's have a look at what's coming up for Jacaraipe.
Right now, we're in a bit of a flat spell. The first few days are pretty average. Sunday the 23rd is a write-off with light rain and a tiny 2ft south swell, cross-shore wind, and weak energy (187). Monday morning the 24th turns glassy with a light 2ft south groundswell, but it's small and the energy is still weak (198). Not worth paddling out for.
Things start to pick up on Tuesday the 25th. The morning is the first real standout. We've got a clean 4ft south-southeast swell, light cross-offshore breeze, and the period stretches to 15 seconds. That's a proper groundswell with moderate energy (602). It's not huge, but it'll be lined up and clean. The break is a sandbar, so it should offer some nice, peeling waves for beginners and intermediates. Water temperature is about average for this time of year, nothing wild.
Wednesday the 26th morning is another cracker. Swell builds to 5ft from the same direction, period hits 17 seconds, and the energy jumps to strong (1304). With light cross-offshore winds, this is going to be excellent for experienced surfers. It's over 5ft, so beginners might find it a handful. That long period groundswell will really suit Jacaraipe's sandbar, giving longer, more powerful waves. The morning is the pick; by afternoon the wind turns cross-onshore and messes things up.
Thursday the 27th holds some size but the conditions get messier. Cross-shore winds and a risk of thunderstorms keep it marginal. The swell is still solid at 5ft, but the quality drops off.
From Friday the 28th right through to the start of September, it's a poor run. Strong northerly winds, lumpy cross-chop, and short-period windswell. The swell height fluctuates but the quality is just not there. The morning of September 1st offers a brief window of clean conditions with a 5ft easterly swell, but it's ordinary and short-lived.
Wednesday the 2nd of September morning is interesting but tricky. A 7ft north-east swell with moderate cross-shore wind, and the energy is strong (771). The problem is the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. It's over 5ft, so not for beginners, and at 7ft it's really pushing into expert-only territory, especially with that short period windswell. The wind and tide might be favorable, but it's a caution.
The end of the forecast period from Friday the 5th of September into the following week shows a bit of a recovery. A clean 4ft east swell on Saturday afternoon with cross-offshore winds and good energy (210) looks like a decent option. Sunday the 6th morning also has a clean 4ft east swell. These are smaller, more manageable waves for a wider range of surfers.
So, the best windows: Tuesday the 25th morning for clean, fun waves, and Wednesday the 26th morning for the biggest, most powerful surf of the period. The long-range stuff in September is a promising but less certain option.
If you're after consistent, quality waves, aim for that Tuesday and Wednesday. The rest is either too small, too windy, or too messy. There are some gaps of several days with no recommendations, especially from late August into early September, but it doesn't stay poor forever.
Rusty.
