The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Lookin’ at the next 16 days for Jacaraipe, and honestly, the first week is a bit of a write-off for any decent paddle. We’ve got a gap of about a week before any real standouts show up. The water’s sitting at 74°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real glimmer comes on Saturday morning, 18th July. It’s only a 3ft swell from the SE, but with a light cross-offshore breeze, it’ll be clean. The wave energy is weak (333), and it’s a sandbar break that’s fairly consistent, so it’s a good one for the beginners to get a few small ones. The crowds are only sometimes an issue, so you might even get a bit of space.
Now, Sunday morning, 19th July, is where it starts to get interesting. Swell lifts to 5ft from the E, period a short 8 seconds, but with a light cross-offshore breeze and clean conditions, it’s offering very good surf. The energy is moderate (510). This is a solid option for the weekend.
The real standout, the one you’d circle on the calendar, is Sunday morning, 26th July. We’ve got a solid 6ft swell from the SSE with a very long 14-second period. That’s proper groundswell. The combined energy is strong (1225). This is a powerful, clean morning with a cross-offshore breeze. The longer period at a sandbar can mean it breaks a bit straight, so it’s better for the crew who know how to pick the peak. It’s a morning for the experienced surfers, as the 6ft might be a bit much for the beginners.
The next morning, Monday, 27th July, also looks promising. A clean 4ft swell from the SSE with a 12-second period, again with a cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate (536) and the conditions are very good. After that, the window closes again with a few days of small, messy stuff.
The final mention goes to Friday morning, 31st July. A clean 3ft swell from the SSE with a 15-second period, very long period groundswell, and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate (464). It’s a small, clean day for the longboard or a fun little fish.
So, to keep it simple: the 26th of July is the big one for the experts. The 19th and 27th are your best bets for a fun, clean session. Everything else is a bit of a gamble with the wind.
Rusty.
