The Lowdown
Alright, listen up. The ocean’s been a bit of a mess lately, but there’s some clean, solid surf finally lining up for the end of the week. You just gotta be patient.
The first few days are gonna be a washout for surfers. Thursday and Friday are full of choppy, cross-shore winds and lumpy, short-period junk. Saturday and Sunday are no better—still messy and disorganised. The swell energy is weak to moderate during this time (125), and nothing’s really making it to shore with any kind of shape. Monday the 24th, the wind dies off to glass, but the swell is tiny, just knee-to-waist high leftovers. Not worth paddling out for.
Here’s the good news. Tuesday morning, the 25th of August, is when it all changes. We’ve got a proper SSE groundswell rolling in with a long 16-second period and solid energy behind it (700). The wind is light and cross-offshore, so Jacaraipe (Espírito Santo) is gonna be clean and lined up. Wave heights are around 4 feet, but that long period means it’ll have some real punch to it. This is the standout of the whole stretch. The morning of the 26th is also prime—glassy conditions, cross-off wind, and similar chest-high sets with that nice 14-second pulse. It’s gonna be worth the wait.
There’s a little more size for the 27th, with 5 feet on the face and very clean conditions in the morning, but it might be getting a bit more powerful. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms, but the morning looks like the pick.
After that, the swell starts to ease and the wind gets messy again. The first couple days of September look pretty average—small and not well organised. There is a blip on Thursday the 3rd of September where the swell jumps up to 7 feet, but it’s a short-period wind swell from the south and predicted to be too big for this particular spot, making for tricky, messy conditions.
So, the main takeaway: don’t waste your time this weekend. The standout window is Tuesday the 25th through Thursday the 27th of August, with clean conditions and proper groundswell on offer. Water temp is right around average for this time of year at 73°, so you’ll be comfortable in a spring suit.
This is Rusty, signing off. See you in the water.
