The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on offer for Jacaraipe over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the outlook starts quiet and stays tricky for a good while. The first solid recommendation doesn't pop up until Wednesday, August 26th. From now until then, you’re looking at a long stretch of mostly poor conditions—choppy, lumpy, with the wind all over the place. Not worth paddling out. The water temperature is sitting at 73°F, which is pretty average for this time of year, so grab a spring suit if you’re sensitive.
The real standout and only proper call in this whole period lands on the morning of Wednesday, August 26th. Early that day, Jacaraipe picks up a solid SSE groundswell at 3ft, coming in with a nice long period of 13 seconds. That’s proper energy moving through—combined energy is 549 (moderate to strong). The best part? The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze out of the north, keeping the surface clean. That’s what you want. The swell direction lines up well with the optimum easterly exposure, so the sandbar should hold a decent shape for a beginner-friendly wave. It’s fairly consistent here, so you won’t be waiting around forever between sets. Because it’s a sandbar, and with that longer period, the sets will have some push but won’t be too heavy. Crowds are just sometimes, so you might have a few others out, but nothing crazy.
Later that afternoon, the wind picks up again out of the northeast, turning it cross and messy, so that morning window is your one sweet spot.
Looking further out, there are a couple of mornings around August 28th to 29th with bigger NE swell (5ft to 6ft), but the wind’s not cooperating—it’s either cross-off with moderate breeze or gets ruined by afternoon onshores. The energy is there (289 to 430 range), but the quality isn’t. By August 30th and into September, we see some more size (5ft to 7ft), but again, the wind and chop kill it. Nothing else steps up as a clear winner.
So, bottom line: If you’ve got a free Wednesday morning on August 26th, that’s your best bet. After that, it’s mostly a waiting game.
Rusty.
