Table - best surf conditions forecast for Jacaraipe over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a pretty good run of surf coming up over the next couple of weeks, but it’s not all plain sailing. The best windows are going to be in the mornings, when the wind plays nice.
Right off the bat, Friday the 10th is looking solid. Jacaraipe (sandbar) will be pushing in a clean 3ft ESE groundswell with a period of 14 seconds – that’s proper long-period energy, 515 (moderate wave energy). The water’s at 75°, which is about average for this time of year. The wind is a light northerly, cross-offshore, keeping the surface glassy. That’s the standout for the start of the period. Get in the water early though, because by afternoon the wind swings NE and gets a bit lumpy.
Saturday the 11th morning is a repeat performer: a touch more size at 4ft from the SE, still a solid 13-second period, and that same clean northerly breeze. Again, the morning window is where it’s at.
Sunday the 12th holds at 4ft SE but the wind picks up, making it a bit more on the messy side. It’s surfable but nothing to write home about.
We hit a bit of a rough patch from Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 14th. That wind gets gusty from the SSW and S, 15-19 mph, with a short-period, junky 5ft to 6ft S swell (periods as low as 5 seconds). The energy’s there (452 on Monday arvo) but it’s crossed-up and choppy – that’s kite-surfing weather, not a clean paddle session. The swell’s over 5ft and short period, so beginners would be in for a tough time.
Now, here’s the real highlight of the whole outlook. Wednesday the 15th morning? Glassy. Dead calm, windless, with a clean 5ft SE swell running on a 10-second period. The combined energy is 534 (moderate wave energy). That’s as good as it gets – pure, clean lines. It’s a bit of a larger swell for the absolute beginner at over 5ft, but for anyone with a bit of experience, it’s the session to target.
Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th mornings also hold that trend: glassy or near-calm conditions, 5ft to 5ft SE swell, good energy in the 479 to 556 range. These are definitely the best bets of the second week.
Things taper off a bit after that. From the 18th onwards, the swell drops back to the 2ft to 5ft zone, and the wind becomes more of a factor – mostly cross-onshore or onshore in the afternoons. The mornings from the 20th to the 21st still offer a clean 5ft to 5ft easterly swell (periods down to 8 seconds), but nothing with the quality of that mid-week glass-off.
There’s a gap from around the 22nd into the 23rd where the swell energy drops below 200 (weak energy) and the conditions are pretty ordinary. It’s not a blank, but you’ll be scratching for a good one. The 25th has a sniff of a longer-period SSE groundswell (14 seconds, 472 energy) but it’s only 3ft and the wind will be up – promising but less certain that far out. Keep an eye on it.
All up, set your alarm for Wednesday the 15th morning if you want the best of the best. Friday the 17th morning is a close second. The rest of the mornings will give you something to ride, but those two windows are the standouts.
Rusty.
