The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Jacaraipe's got cooking for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta say, it's a bit of a slow start. The first real window where things look worth paddling out for is a ways off. We're looking at a dry spell for the first week or so, with most days getting knocked out by messy winds or just not enough juice in the water to get excited about. You'll be sitting on the beach for a good stretch.
The one spot we're keeping an eye on is Jacaraipe, a sandbar break that's fairly consistent and best with an easterly swell. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Now, let’s talk about the one moment that stands out in this whole forecast. It's the morning of Wednesday, September 2nd. The wind goes glassy – I'm talking a slight air, almost nothing – out of the southwest. That's a huge positive. The swell will be a clean 5 ft from the northeast, with a moderate combined energy of 384. The period is a solid 8 seconds, so you'll get some push, but it’s not a super long-period groundswell, which is fine for a sandbar setup. This is the session to circle on your calendar. It's the only time in the window where the stars align for a proper, clean surf. Winds like that are a gift.
Everything else before that date is either too blown out, too small, or a victim of onshore chop. There's a little blip on Monday, August 24th with a 3 ft south swell and 12-second period, but the cross-shore wind and marginal conditions mean it's not really worth chasing. The morning of Tuesday, September 1st has some size – 8 ft from the northeast – but the combined energy is a hefty 639, and it's predicted to be too big for this break. That’s an expert-only affair if anything.
Later on Wednesday, September 2nd, the wind swings onshore and the quality drops, so that morning window is your one true standout. Keep your hopes up for that glassy spell – it’s the real deal.
