The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu for Jacaraipe over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, it’s a bit of a slow start. We’ve got a few days of surfable, but not really recommendable, conditions. The real story is a bit of a waiting game, but there’s some promise in the back half of the run.
Sunday morning, the 19th, has some 5ft swell from the ENE, but the cross wind and marginal vibes mean it’s not one to get excited about. The water temp is sitting at 73°F, which is pretty normal for this time of year.
Monday morning the 20th looks a touch cleaner. The wind goes cross-off from the north, 6 mph, with 5ft of E swell at 8 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (226), and the conditions are clean. It’s a small, friendly wave for a beginner, but nothing to write home about. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so you might have company.
The standout, and I mean the real standout, is the window from Sunday morning, August 2nd. The swell is 5ft from the SE, period stretching to 11 seconds, giving it some proper groundswell energy. The combined energy is strong (858). The wind is offshore from the N at 12 mph, making for clean, well-shaped waves. This is the best on offer. It’s a solid, consistent option for a good session. The long period means it’ll wrap in nicely at this sandbar, but expect bigger gaps between sets.
Leading into that, Saturday morning, August 1st, is also a good shout. 4ft SSE swell, a 12-second period, clean offshore wind, and strong energy (767). It’s a solid warm-up for the Sunday.
The week before that, from the 20th to the 31st, is mostly a mixed bag of small, cross-off mornings and blown-out afternoons. The swell is small and the period is short, so waves lack punch. The 28th has a glassy morning with 3ft, but it’s very ordinary.
The very end of the run, Monday morning August 3rd, has 5ft E swell and clean offshore wind, but the period drops back to 8 seconds, so it loses that grunt.
So, if you’re waiting, wait for the last weekend of July and the first of August. That’s where the juice is.
Rusty.
