Right, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Jacaraipe.
The next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag, but there are definitely a few moments where it’ll be worth wetting a line. The most promising window is around the second weekend and into the following week, with a couple of standout mornings that should deliver clean, fun waves.
We kick off on Saturday the 4th of July. The morning is absolute magic – glassy conditions, 4ft of east swell rolling in, and the water temp is a comfortable 75°F. That's about average for this time of year, so no surprises there. The waves have moderate energy, but that clean surface from the calm wind will make it a dream for beginners. This is a sandbar, it's exposed, and it's fairly consistent, though crowds can be a thing here, so just a heads up. Saturday afternoon goes onshore and gets messy, so make the most of the morning.
Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th are pretty average – cross-shore winds and a drop in swell size mean poor conditions for a proper paddle. Not worth getting out of bed for, to be honest.
Tuesday the 7th of July morning looks interesting. We’ve got a clean, cross-offshore wind from the north and a 4ft swell from the SSE, with a period of 11 seconds. That gives it some decent groundswell feel, and the energy is strong. The waves will have some punch, but that longer period might make it a bit walled-off on a beach setup like this. Still, for an intermediate surfer, the clean morning looks solid.
Wednesday the 8th through to Friday the 10th is a write-off – onshore winds and choppy conditions rule the roost.
Now, here’s the first real standout. Saturday the 11th of July morning. Glassy again, with 4ft of SE swell wrapping in at a long 12-second period. The energy’s moderate, but that glassy surface will make it silky smooth. The longer period means the waves will have good shape and power, and the sets will be more spaced out. This is a sandbar, so that period can sometimes make things a bit straight, but conditions will be so clean it should still be plenty of fun.
Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th mornings also offer clean conditions with cross-offshore or glassy winds. Sunday has 3ft SE swell at 12s, and Monday has 3ft SSE swell at 12s. Both are clean, and the energy is moderate. These are solid, surfable mornings, but Saturday’s glass-off is the pick of the bunch.
After that, Tuesday the 14th through Thursday the 16th sees a drop in swell and a return of onshore winds. There's a few clean-ish mornings, but the swell gets pretty small, down to 2ft to 3ft, so only for the keenest on the log.
Then we get a bit of a curveball for Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th of July. Friday morning kicks up a 5ft swell from the NNE, but with a short, bumpy 6-second period. That's windswell, and while it’s clean early with a light wind, the short period means it’ll be a bit fat and weak. Still, there might be a wave or two for a frother.
Saturday the 18th of July morning is another clean one. 4ft from the NE, with a short 7-second period, but clear, clean conditions with a light cross-offshore wind. Energy is moderate. It's not the best quality, but it’s the best of a so-so patch.
Finally, Sunday the 19th of July morning wraps things up. A clean morning with 5ft of S swell, short period of 6 seconds, and a light cross-offshore breeze. Again, it’s a bit of a short-period windswell, but it's rideable and clean.
So, overall, the sure-fire best bet is Saturday the 11th of July morning – that glassy, long-period SE swell at Jacaraipe is the one to circle. The Tuesday the 7th morning is also a good call for a bit more power. The rest of the time, just pick the clean mornings and you’ll find something to keep you smiling.
Rusty.
