The Lowdown
G’day, this is Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s happening at Jacaraipe over the next couple of weeks.
Right now, the first few days are a bit of a write-off. Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd are all about poor surf conditions—short, weak swell from the NE and S around 4ft to 5ft, and a fresh breeze making things messy. The combined energy is weak to moderate (168–230), so there’s really nothing to get excited about. Sunday the 23rd drops off even more, with tiny 2ft to 2ft leftovers and onshore winds. Not worth paddling out.
Monday the 24th is still pretty ordinary, but by Tuesday morning, August 25th, things start to look interesting. We’ve got a glassy morning with a solid SSE groundswell at 4ft, a period of 16 seconds, and combined energy jumping to 688. That’s moderate to strong energy, and the glassy wind means it’ll be clean. This is the standout window for the whole period—expect very good surf conditions. The water temperature is about normal for this time of year, hovering around 73°F.
Wednesday the 26th and Thursday the 27th also have promising mornings. Wednesday morning is clean with a cross-off breeze and 3ft SSE swell at 13 seconds; combined energy is 432. Thursday morning is even better—glassy again, 5ft SSE swell at 14 seconds, and combined energy at 795. Both mornings score well for quality. The wind is light, so the surface will be smooth.
Friday the 28th morning is clean again, with 4ft SSE swell at 13 seconds and energy at 575, but by afternoon the wind picks up and it goes lumpy. The weekend of the 29th and 30th is a step back—short-period NE windswell, 6ft to 6ft, but with moderate to fresh cross-off winds in the morning and cross-shore mess in the afternoon. The energy is still moderate (387–399), but the quality drops.
Monday the 31st morning brings a glassy window with 5ft NE swell at 7 seconds, but the afternoon is a write-off again. As we move into the first week of September, the pattern is mixed. Tuesday the 1st and Wednesday the 2nd have some clean morning windows with 5ft to 6ft NE swell, but the period stays short (7 seconds) and the combined energy is moderate (210–344). Thursday the 3rd morning has a glassy start with 5ft S swell at 6 seconds, and energy at 266—good for a quick session, but nothing special.
The real standout remains Tuesday morning, August 25th—that SSE groundswell with glassy conditions and strong energy is your best bet. After that, Thursday the 27th morning is also a top pick. For the long-range, the mornings of September 2nd and 3rd show promise, but with shorter period swell and less consistency, I’d keep expectations in check.
That’s the story from here. Stay wet, stay keen.
