The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve been staring at the charts for Praia de Camburi, and honestly, it’s a tough stretch ahead. The whole 16-day window is pretty flat, with only a couple of brief moments that might get you wet, but you’ll have to be patient. There’s a big gap of nothing from the start all the way through to the middle of the second week.
The first real pulse arrives on Tuesday, 11th August. Tuesday morning, we see a spike in energy with a combined swell energy reading of 230 (moderate), pushing in from the east at 4ft, with a short period of 8 seconds. The wind is light and offshore from the N, so it’ll be clean. This is the best on offer, but it’s a long way off and the period is short, so don’t expect much shape. It’s a sheltered spot, so that east swell might wrap in a little. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing unusual.
Then on Wednesday, 12th August, early morning, there’s a bit more energy – a combined swell energy of 356 (also moderate) with a 4ft east swell at 10 seconds. Winds are light from the N again, keeping it glassy. Again, it’s a short-period swell, and the break is fairly consistent, but it’s a beginner wave. With the swell just under 5ft, it’s fine for learners, but the crowds are sometimes an issue here.
The rest of the period is a write-off. Tiny, weak swell, mostly under 2ft, with poor surf conditions across the board. There are several days with glassy or offshore winds, but with no swell to work with, it’s not worth paddling out. The entire stretch from 28th July right through to 10th August offers nothing. The only real standouts are those two mornings on the 11th and 12th, and they’re still fairly ordinary. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, a blank run like this is a bit of a downer, but forecasts can change.
Stay hopeful, but for now, it’s a waiting game.
