The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a chat about what's coming up for Praia de Camburi.

To be straight with you, the next sixteen days look like a long, flat spell with only a few windows of pretty ordinary waves. We’ve got a big gap of nothing much at the start. The first half of September is basically a write-off for anything worth paddling out for. The first tiny pulse of energy shows up on Friday the 11th, but it's just 1ft of weak, long-period swell from the SSE with 16 mph winds. You wouldn't even bother checking it. That pattern of tiny, poor surf continues through Saturday the 12th.

The first time we see anything that might hold you up is on Monday the 14th. The morning is blown out with a light onshore breeze and rain, but by the afternoon, the wind drops to glassy. We get a small 4ft swell from the ESE with a short period of 8 seconds, giving us a combined energy of 248. It's not going to win any awards, but for a sheltered beginner spot, it’s surfable. The water temp is a comfortable 72°, which is about average for this time of year.

Tuesday the 15th is the only real standout in this whole outlook, and that's saying something. We've got a super glassy start to the morning with a clean 4ft ESE swell before it picks up to 4ft in the afternoon. The offshore wind from the ENE kicks in for the arvo session, giving you clean little lines. The energy bumps up to 326, which is the highest we see for a while, but with a short period, it's still fat and fun, not powerful. For a beginner-friendly spot that can get crowded sometimes, this Tuesday is your best bet. It’s not an epic day, but it’s the most rideable we’ve got.

After that, Wednesday the 16th morning is glassy again with a 3ft swell, but the afternoon turns choppy. Then we hit another long stretch of poor to ordinary conditions. There's a pulse of bigger energy on the 17th with a 4ft S swell and a period of 12 seconds, giving a strong energy reading of 624, but the winds are a mess—cross-onshore from the S. That’s going to be messy and blown out.

From the 18th right through to the end of the outlook on the 26th, it's a whole lot of nothing or very poor conditions. The 24th sees some size again at 4ft, but with strong onshore cross-winds from the SSW, it’s going to be choppy and uninviting. Honestly, the whole setup looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on a lot of those days.

So, bottom line: the next two weeks are pretty grim. Don't expect much. The only real window is Tuesday the 15th, and maybe a sniff on Monday the 14th afternoon and Wednesday the 16th morning. Everything else is a write-off. Forecasts change, but for now, keep your board in the car and your expectations low.

Rusty.
